The steps to highlight on Google Docs is the same whether you are using the iOS or Android App for Google Docs.

Here are the detailed steps:

  • Open Google Docs App on your phone.
  • Select the text or texts you want to highlight – to select a text, simply double-click it. Then, on the top of the App, click the formatting tool.

  • When you click the formatting tool, it will display a drop-down of options with two columns – Text and Paragraph. The Text column is displayed by default. On the text column you can perform tasks like styling, font size or change text color. But you can also find the Highlight color tool.

  • To locate the Highlight color tool, scroll down and click on it.

  • On the Highlight color tool, the default highlight is None – no highlight. To highlight on Google Docs, select a color from the list beneath None.
  • Once you select a color, the text will be highlighted. To remove the Highlight color tool, click the back button.

If you use Google Docs from a PC or Mac, here are the steps to highlight.

  • Open your Google Docs documents from either Docs.Google.com or Google Drive.
  • Then double-click to select the text(s) you want to highlight and click the Highlight color tool. If the tool is not displayed, click the 3 dots (see the second image).
  • When you click the Highlight color tool, a set of colors will be displayed. Select a color. If you want to use your own color, click CUSTOM (Beneath the colors). Once you select a color, the text will be highlighted with that color!
