If you use Google Sheets App on your Android device, here are the steps to hide columns:

  • Open Google Sheets App on your device.

  • Then open the sheet you want to edit. On the Google Sheets App, recent documents will be listed beneath Last opened by me. However, you can open a document from Google Drive. To open a document from Google Drive, click the folder icon on top of the App (highlighted in the image below).

  • Once you open the Google Sheets document, click and hold the column you want to hide. When you click and hold the column a set of options will be displayed. On the options menu, click on the 3 dots.
As at the time of writing Google Sheets for iOS do not support this feature.
  • Then scroll down the list that is displayed and click Hide column. When you hide a column, two back to back arrows will display at the point the column is hidden (see the second image below). To unhide the column click one of the arrows.

If you use a PC to access Google Sheets here are the steps to hide columns in Google Sheets:

  • Open Google Sheets from a browser on your PC. Then open the Google Sheets document you want to edit. You could also access your Google Sheets from Google Drive.
  • There are two methods to hide a column – 1. right-click the column you want to hide and select Hide column.

  • 2. hover over the column you want to hide. Then, click on the drop-down (highlighted in the first image below) and select Hide column.

  • The column will be hidden! In my example, notice that column D is no longer in my document. One way to tell that a column is hidden is the existence of 2 back to back arrows – see the highlighted portion of the image below.
  • To unhide the column, click on one of the back to back arrows. Your column will reappear!

There could be so many reasons you may want to hide a column in a spreadsheet – you no longer want the column or the data in it.
