Editorial policy

How we pick, research, rank and re-check every tool in the iTechGuides directories.

Who writes this

The iTechGuides editorial team researches and re-checks every tool listed here from official pricing, plan and product pages. A featured position is a paid placement. Our wider policies: Product Review Policy, Editorial Policy and How we make money.

How a tool gets listed

We research every product from its official website: pricing pages, plan tables, feature pages and documentation. Prices and plan details are checked against the vendor's own pages, and anything we cannot verify is left out rather than guessed. Research and first drafts use automated tools under these editorial rules. For every directory we define one core job (for example: publish a five-page business site, or ship an A/B-tested campaign page) and rank each tool on how well its verified features and plans cover that job. We do not describe a product as hands-on tested unless it was. Products that have shut down, that are not software, or that are sold only as part of an unrelated bundle are not listed. Our editors add tools on their own schedule at no charge to anyone. A vendor who wants in now can buy a paid listing: the product is researched exactly like every other, receives an editorial score and verdict, and is refunded if it does not qualify. Paid listings are published by the same automated pipeline as editor-picked ones.

How we rank

  • Core job first. How well the tool's verified features cover the one thing the category is about.
  • What the entry plan really includes. Free-plan limits, branding, custom domains and the price of the first paid tier.
  • Where it falls short. Plan limits, missing features, platform gaps and lock-in documented on the vendor's own pages.
  • Score. Out of 10, one decimal. By default, 80% comes from our editors' standing for the product in its directory (their ranking) and 20% from a facts rubric — job fit (how many of the category's checks it meets), value (free plan, free trial, a verified entry price) and verification (sourced pricing, product facts, a complete write-up). The list follows the score, except that our own products and paid positions keep their pinned place, and editors can set a score by hand. Paid positions are not marked row by row: the note on each ranking names our own products, and the section below explains paid positions. Sponsored alternatives on a product's pages are paid too, and they may not be marked one by one. Makers can also pay for an in-depth review of their product, and paid reviews may not be marked one by one either. Re-checked when a product changes its plans or its editor.

Paid listings and featured positions

We accept paid listings and featured positions. A paid listing buys a place in a directory, not a rank: the product is researched like every other and ranked on the same criteria. A featured position (a top spot) is a paid placement: the product sits at the rank that was bought and the products below it move down one place.

iTechGuides is reader-supported. Some “Visit” buttons are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The other income is the paid listings and featured positions described above.

Freshness and dead tools

Every listed product is checked automatically for availability, and pricing is re-verified on a rolling basis. Tools that shut down are removed; tools that merge are updated to their new name. Each page shows the date it was last updated.

Corrections

If a price, a plan limit or a feature is wrong, tell us at contact@itechguides.com. We fix confirmed errors and note the update date on the page.
