Option 1: Do Footnotes from a PC
- Open Docs.Google.com from a PC. Then, sign in with your Google Account.
- When Google Docs opens, open the document you want to add a footnote.
- You open a saved document from Recent documents. You could also open a docuemnt from Google Drive.
- To open Google Drive, click the 3 lines on the top left of the page. Then click Drive.
- When the document opens, click where you want to insert your footnote.
- Then, on the document menu, click Insert. From the displayed options, click Footnote.
- The footnote will be displayed at the point you placed your mouse. You can add notes to the footnote.
Option 2: Do Footnotes from Android
- Open Google Docs App from your phone.
- Then, open the document you want to add a footnote on.
- When the document opens, at the bottom right of the screen, tap the edit button.
- Then, tap the part of the document you want to insert your footnote. Since you are inserting a footnote, you will likely add it to the footer area of the document.
- At the top right of the document, tap Insert (+). Some options will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down the displayed options and tap Footnote.

Option 3: Do Footnotes from iPhone
- Open Google Docs App for iPhone from your phone. Then, if you have not already logged in, login with your Google Account.
- When the App opens, open the document and tap the edit button at the bottom right of the document.
- To do footnotes in Google Docs, tap the part of the document you want to have your Footnote.
- Then, on the top right of the document, click Insert (+ sign). Some options will be displayed beneath the phone.
- Finally, scroll down the list of displayed options and tap Footnote.
- The footnote will be added. You can add notes to the footnote.
