Step 1: Create a New Local User
The first step to create a guest account on Windows 10 is to create a local user. Here are the steps…
- Right-click the Windows 10 Start menu and click Computer Management.
- On Computer Management, expand Local Users and Groups. Then right-click the Users node and select New User…
- When the New User window opens, enter the guest account login name in the User name field.
- Then, enter a password in the Password field and re-enter the same password in the Confirm Password field.
- Finally, uncheck all the check-boxes and click Create.
- The new account will be created and the New User window will become empty. close the window and proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Add the New Local User to the Guests Local Group
After creating a new Windows 10 local user, the next and final step to create a guest account on Windows 10 is to add the new local user to the Guests local group. Here are the steps…

- Still on the Local Users and Groups node of Computer Management, click the Users node. Then, right-click the new guest account you created in the last step and click Properties.
- On the properties of the new account, click the Member Of tab.
- Then, on the Member Of tab, select Users and click Remove.
- Once you have removed the Users group, on the bottom left, click Add.
- Then, on the Select Groups window, enter guests in the Enter the object names to select box and click Check Names.
When you click Check Names, the name in the Enter the object names to select box will change to the ComputerName\Guests format.
- To save your changes click OK. The Guests group will now be displayed in the Member Of list of the guest users account. To save the change, click OK – see the second image below…
- Finally, give the guest user the user name and password for the new account. When the person logs in to your PC with the account, the person will have guest account privileges.
