HP 15 F233wm: At First Glance

With the number of HP laptops released every year, the choice of which model to go for has been an important factor to consider. Although HP laptops are known for their power and efficiency, you still need to decide the best model that fits your needs.

To make your decision a bit easier, this review will focus on one of HP’s notebooks – HP 15 F233wm. This laptop is an affordable option packed with enough hardware specifications to meet your demands.

For the price, at the time of writing this review in February 2022, this laptop starts at $761.92.

Now the big question is, what will the HP 15 F233wm offer you with this price tag? Read on to find out.

HP 15 f233wm: Design, Dimension and Weight

The HP 15 F233wm comes in an attractive appearance but a simple design. It has none of the flashy designs that lovers of noticeable laptops would love.

Moreover, this laptop comes in a black color that makes it suitable for a working environment. However, the chassis of this laptop is made with a plastic material hence, the HP 15 F233wm is quite fragile.

Upon close inspection of this laptop, you will notice its rough-textured chassis when you rub your palms on it. You will also notice, the ”hp” logo on a gray circle, neatly inscribed at the center of the laptop’s lid.

In truth, the design of the HP 15 F233wm is attractive but only if your quest is not after flashy laptops.

When you proceed to open the laptop’s lid, you will see the 15.6-inch display “smiling at you”. In addition to its appealing 15″ display, the hinges are also a bit sturdy hence, they hold the screen firmly.

Coming back to the display, the laptop’s 15.6-inch display screen comes in HD (1366 x 768) resolution. Additionally, the display is BrightView WLED-backlit.

WLED is short for “white LED emitting diode”.

For clarity, a BrightView WLED-backlit display implies that the display has a glossy texture with a white light-emitting diode backlight. This display feature helps to increase the display color and visibility.

Furthermore, the HP 15 F233wm screen is perfectly fitted into its bulky bezel. One may argue that one benefit of the bulky bezel is that the upper part houses a webcam with an integrated microphone.

Meanwhile, the lower bezel of the display toward the keyboard is where the ‘hp’ logo is located.

Coming to the keyboard, This laptop features a full-size island-style keyboard. The keys are well-arranged and spacious which makes it easy to access the keys quickly.

In addition to that, the HP 15 F233wm’s keyboard comes with a dedicated numeric keypad for your convenience. A dedicated numeric keypad help to make frequent calculations or number input easier.

Furthermore, at the middle of the palm rest below the keyboard, you will find a large touchpad with dedicated keys. Thankfully, the touchpad delivers a good touch experience and supports multi-touch gestures.

Moving on to the sides of the HP 15 F233wm’s chassis, there you will find the ports. Precisely, this laptop has 1 USB 2.0 and a headphone jack on its left side.

Also, on the right side of the laptop, you will find 2 USB 3.0 ports, an ethernet port, and an HDMI port. The laptop obviously comes with few ports unlike most of the recent laptops out there.

Having talked about the design features of the HP 15 F233wm, let us talk about its weight. The laptop is quite heavy with a weight of 2,290 g.

Meanwhile, for its dimension, the HP 15 F233wm measures 385.5 x 258 x 22.6 mm (W x D x H). With its weight and size, it is nearly difficult to carry this laptop around or on your laps for a long duration.

In comparison with Lenovo Thinkpad T430, the HP 15 F233wm is lighter. This is because the Lenovo Thinkpad T430 weighs 2,358.68 g.

On the other hand, the HP 15 F233wm is heavier than HP Envy 13t gaming laptop which weighs 1,306.3 g.

In conclusion, I will be rating the HP 15 F233wm an eight out of ten in the design review section for its decent design and weight.

HP 15 F233wm: Processor (CPU) Performance

This HP 15 F233wm comes with a dual-core Intel Celeron N3050 processor. This processor has a base frequency to be 1.60 GHz and a maximum frequency to be 2.16 GHz.

In addition to that, the processor comes with a cache memory of 2 MB. With its Intel Celeron N3050 processor, the HP 15 F233wm should be capable of handling less-intensive computing tasks.

However, in other to give you a hint about the laptop’s performance, in reality, I will be sharing the CineBench R15 benchmark test result. CineBench R15 is a benchmark test tool that examines the computer CPU’s performance.

It is also worth noting that, the higher the score on the Cinebench R15 benchmark, the better the processor performance. Also, this benchmark test produces two results – the single-core and the multi-core test.

For clarity, the single-core measures a processor’s performance when it uses one of its core. On the other hand, the multi-cult test measures how a processor performs when it uses all its cores.

Based on the single-core CineBench R15 test, the HP 15 F233wm scored 34 points.

Meanwhile, on the multi-core Cinebench R15 test, the HP 15 F233wm scored 62.5 points.

In comparison, Lenovo IdeaPad 300S-11IBR scored 30 points in the single-core CineBench R15 benchmark test. Meanwhile, it scored 56 points in the multi-core benchmark test.

On the other hand, the Acer Aspire ES1-131 scored slightly higher than the HP 15 F233wm in the benchmark test. Specifically, the Acer Aspire ES1-131 scored 35 points and 66 points in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

Therefore, this HP 15 F233wm performs excellently on this processor section without a doubt. Hence, I will be rating this laptop a nine out of ten in this review section.

HP 15 F233wm: Memory (RAM) Performance

In terms of memory, this HP 15 F233wm comes with a 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM standard memory. Furthermore, this laptop comes with just one slot for its memory.

Unfortunately, 4 GB is the maximum memory the HP 15 F233wm can accept. Therefore, this laptop can not be upgraded above this 4 GB maximum memory.

However, 4 GB is enough memory to perform your daily computing task. It is capable of adequately handling light multitasking with ease.

Specifically, with the 4 GB memory on this laptop, you should be able to open up to 13 Chrome tabs without noticing any lag. Moreover, with these browser tabs opened you should be able to move from one application to another without any slowdowns.

To further prove the performance of this memory, I will be presenting the PC Mark 10 benchmark result. PC Mark 10 is a benchmark that measures the complete computer performance based on real-world applications.

On the PC Mark 10 benchmark, a higher score translates to a better performance of the memory. From the benchmark, the HP 15 F233wm scored 2,358 points which are lower than the 5,064 average points.

In comparison, the Lenovo Thinkpad T430 had a score of 3,135 points. Also, HP EliteBook 8460p scored 3,370 points.

From the benchmark result comparisons, we can see that both competitors outperformed the HP 15 F233wm. Therefore, I will rate the HP 15 F233wm a six out of ten in this memory review section.

HP 15 F233wm: Storage Options & Performance

HP 15 F233wm comes with 500 GB SATA HDD storage, which runs at the speed of 5400 RPM. A 500 GB HDD is sufficient storage space for storing a reasonable amount of files.

Although I am disappointed to have just an HDD storage on this laptop and not an SSD. That is because SSD storage is faster than HDD.

However, it will impress you to know that the HP 15 F233wm laptop comes with an external storage option. Speaking of which, this laptop supports a multi-format SD media card reader to cater to your extra storage needs.

In other to prove how this laptop performs in terms of its storage speed, I will show you the benchmark result using the CrystalDiskMark. CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark tool that evaluates the sequential read and write speeds of a computer’s storage performance.

To avoid confusion, sequential read speed is used to describe how fast a storage drive takes to open stored files. On the other hand, sequential write speed refers to how long it takes a storage drive to save files.

As you might expect, a higher read and write speed is preferable.

From the test result, HP 15 F233wm has a sequential read speed of 148.48 MBps. Meanwhile, it also has a sequential write speed of 141.55 MBps.

In comparison, HP Pavilion 11-k103ng x360 has a read and write speed of 106 MBps and 108.1 MBps respectively. Also, Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR has a read speed of 118.9 MBps and a write speed of 117.2 MBps.

Obviously, the HP 15 F233wm’s performance is better than the other laptops I compared it with. Therefore, I will be rating it an eight in this storage performance review.

HP 15 F233wm: Graphics Card Performance

Coming to the graphics section of this laptop, this laptop features an integrated graphics card. Precisely, it comes with an Intel HD Graphics card which has a base GPU frequency of 320 MHz.

Additionally, this graphics card has a maximum GPU frequency of 600 MHz. Although an integrated graphics card does not have Video RAM, it shares the memory with the CPU.

The consequence of sharing the system’s memory is that integrated graphics cards are not designed for playing graphics-intensive games. Therefore, do not expect an excellent gaming performance from this laptop.

Speaking of its gaming performance, the HP 15 F233wm cannot play games like PUBG or Minecraft on high settings. However, if you must play these games, you need to do so on low settings – about 10-30 fps.

Despite its not-so-impressive gaming performance, the HP 15 F233wm performed better in 3D Mark benchmark.

The 3D Mark is a benchmark test tool for evaluating the 3D graphics handling capacity of a computer. Similar to the other benchmarks we have mentioned in this review, a higher score in the 3D Mark benchmark is preferable.

From the benchmark test, HP 15 F233wm had a score of 3,278 points. This performance is good but not the best when compared with other laptops in its category.

For example, Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 15 scored 3,111 points in the benchmark test which is below that of the HP 15 F233wm. On the other hand, Acer Aspire V3-331-P982 scored 3,304 points which is higher than the HP 15 F233wm’s score.

Putting the benchmark result into consideration, I will rate the HP 15 F233wm an eight out of ten in this graphics review section.

HP 15 F233wm: Battery Life and Performance

This HP laptop comes with 3-cell, 31 Wh Li-ion polymer battery. This laptop’s battery life performance was not specified by HP.

However, according to hardwarevillagengr.com the battery should be able to deliver up to 9 hours of continuous usage which is an impressive endurance rating. The 9 hours of battery life that this laptop delivers is enough to do most of your productive tasks without the fear of shutting down midway.

Thankfully, this reduces the stress of carrying the power pack around anytime you are going out with the laptop.

In comparison with other laptops, the HP 15 F233wm outperformed the HP Laptop 15-dw3097nr. Specifically, the HP Laptop 15-dw3097nr lasted 7 hours 15 minutes in a similar operational condition.

However, HP Pavilion Laptop – 15t battery lasted longer than the HP 15 F233wm with a battery life of 9 hours and 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, these laptops that the HP 15 F233wm compared with on this battery life review are more powerful. Specifically, these competing laptops both have a 3-cell 41 wh battery.

However, the HP 15 F233wm has proven reliable in its battery life performance. Therefore, I will be rating this HP 15 F233wm eight out of ten in this battery life section review.
