OLED55B8PUA: At First Glance

OLED televisions are one of the best TVs in the market because of the stunning picture quality they offer. Well, as an OLED TV itself, the LG OLED55B8PUA should offer good picture quality.

Asides from offering good picture quality, this TV also comes with other great features that are found in most high-end TVs. Some of these features include a low input lag, premium design, and a magic remote.

Impressively, despite offering so many great features as well as an OLED display, this television costs less than $1000. To be more precise, when I wrote this review in February 2022, this television had a price tag of $929.99.

Nevertheless, with all the great features this TV has to offer, can it really meet up to your requirements? Well, you are going to find out as you read through this review article.

OLED55B8PUA: Design, Dimension and Weight

When it comes to design, OLED TVs are well known for delivering stunning designs. Thankfully, the LG OLED55B8PUA is not an exception as it comes with a sleek and elegant design.

Going into details, this TV features very thin bezels that surround its display screen. Moreover, these bezels measure only 0.25-inches.

Therefore, you will barely notice these bezels due to how slim they are. Before proceeding, it is important to note that these bezels are made of plastic.

However, due to the extreme slimness of these bezels, LG couldn’t manage to include their logo on the bottom bezel. Notwithstanding, the television still looks classy despite the absence of the logo.

Turning to the TV’s back, the top part is extremely thin whereas the bottom part is somewhat chunky. This is because all of the TV’s ports, electronics, and components are housed in the bottom part of the TV’s back.

Impressively, there is a cable management system at this TV’s back that makes cables look organized. Also, there are holes on the television’s back for accommodating a 300 x 200 VESA mount just in case you need to wall-mount the LG OLED55B8PUA.

Moving on, the LG OLED55B8PUA comes with a metallic stand that is set in the center of its bottom. Moreover, this stand is very sturdy due to its metal build.

However, that doesn’t stop the television from wobbling if forcefully pushed.

That said, the LG OLED55B8PUA measures 1226.8 x 45.7 x 706.1 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 16283.9 g. Comparatively, this television has similar dimensions as the LG OLED55C7P.

However, their weight differs. To be more specific, the LG OLED55B8PUA is lighter than the LG OLED55C7P, which weighs 17300 g.

In summary, the LG OLED55B8PUA has a premium design as well as slim bezels, as expected from an OLED TV. As a result, the LG OLED55B8PUA deserves a nine out of ten rating in this design review section.

OLED55B8PUA: Display Features

When it comes to the display, OLED TVs are known to deliver good pictures quality. Thus, the LG OLED55B8PUA does not disappoint in this area as it offers above-average display performance.

To give more details, the LG OLED55B8PUA features a 55-inch OLED display. This display comes with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

With its 4K resolution, images on this display will appear four times better and clearer than a standard HD display.

Just like every other OLED display out there, the LG OLED55B8PUA’s display comes with an infinite contrast ratio. Basically, this is the highest contrast ratio a display could possibly offer.

Thus, thanks to its infinite contrast ratio, this TV’s display can alter single pixels, resulting in the production of perfect/deep blacks. As a result, the LG OLED55B8PUA is ideal for use in a dim or dark environment.

Also, due to its contrast ratio, movies with lots of dark scenes will be a joy to watch on the LG OLED55B8PUA. For clarity, the contrast ratio refers to the difference between the brightest white and the darkest blacks of a display.

As expected from an OLED television, the LG OLED55B8PUA’s display doesn’t support local dimming. This is because OLED television features an infinite contrast ratio.

Moving on, the LG OLED55B8PUA comes with impressive display brightness. To be more precise, this television’s display has a maximum brightness of 548 nits.

Therefore, this TV would be suitable for viewing in a well-lit room.

Moving further, this TV’s display comes with impressive viewing angles, just like most OLED TVs. This implies that viewing the LG OLED55B8PUA off-center will not affect the picture quality, as pictures and color accuracy will remain intact.

As a result, the LG OLED55B8PUA should be a great choice for a wide room setting.

Aside from having incredible viewing angles, the LG OLED55B8PUA’s display handles reflection excellently. This is because of its glossy coating that retracts reflection from the display.

Therefore, you should be able to use the LG OLED55B8PUA in a bright room without having reflection issues.

Moving on, the LG OLED55B8PUA’s display has a decent input lag. To be more specific, it has an input lag of 21.3 milliseconds, which makes the television adequate but not exceptional for gaming.

For clarity, input lag means the duration it would take a display to register a signal input, for example from a gamepad. In addition to its decent input lag, the LG OLED55B8PUA’s display has an incredible response time of 1.1 milliseconds.

Due to this display’s incredibly fast response time, the LG OLED55B8PUA is very much ideal for viewing fast-motion content like action movies. Just in case you are wondering, response time refers to the time a display takes to change from one color to another.

In conclusion, there is practically nothing to hate about this LG OLED55B8PUA’s display as it delivers exceptional performance. Therefore, I will be rating the LG OLED55B8PUA a nine out of ten in this display review section.

OLED55B8PUA: Sound Features

With such brilliance in the display features section, expectations are high as regards the sound performance of this TV. Well, I will say that this television doesn’t disappoint as it offers a pair of 40-watt speakers that produces excellent sounds.

Interestingly, these speakers are supported by a 20-watt subwoofer. Therefore, with the help of this subwoofer, the LG OLED55B8PUA should be able to produce enough bass.

As a result, the LG OLED55B8PUA is suitable for viewing bass-heavy movies or songs. In addition to its impressive speakers and subwoofer, this TV features Dolby Atmos sound technology.

This sound technology improves the television’s sound production by delivering a 3D audio experience. Basically, Dolby Atmos brings that 360-degree sound you enjoy in a movie theater right to your living room.

Moving on to the distortion performance, the LG OLED55B8PUA has an impressive distortion performance. To be more specific, this TV can produce clear and loud sounds without distortion.

This fact was proven by the television’s Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) test result. THD test is a sound test that measures the total amount of distortion that an audio device is capable of producing.

Moreover, on this test, a score of 1% or below is considered acceptable whereas a result above 1% is not good enough. Fortunately, the LG OLED55B8PUA scored 0.7% on the THD test, which is way below the 1% pass mark.

As a result, this TV should be able to deliver sound without distortion even at a maximum volume level. For the record, distortion in this context simply means the deformation of audio frequencies, resulting in less appealing sounds.

The LG OLED55B8PUA’s impressive sound performance doesn’t stop here as its speakers deliver clear and audible dialogue sound. For those who don’t understand, dialogue refers to conversations between multiple characters in a movie.

In conclusion, the LG OLED55B8PUA offers a sound performance that is close to perfect. Also, this television features sound technology that further enhances its sound production.

Hence, one could ignore buying a soundbar with this television because of the rich sound it is capable of producing. As a result, the LG OLED55B8PUA deserves a nine out of ten in this sound review section

OLED55B8PUA: Ports and Connectivity Features

The LG OLED55B8PUA comes with a great wealth of ports that should meet almost all your connectivity demands. Regrettably, all of the television’s ports are located on the back.

Thus, accessing the ports when the television is wall-mounted might be difficult. Having said that, now let us discuss the various ports that the television offer.

To start with, this television comes with four HDMI ports, one of which supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Therefore, using that particular HDMI-ARC port, you should be able to connect an external speaker or soundbar to the television.

In addition to its four HDMI ports, this TV also comes with three USB ports. These USB ports can be used for charging your devices, connecting a flash drive, or even playing music/videos.

The LG OLED55B8PUA also comes with an Ethernet port, a digital optical audio output, and a composite video input. For wireless connectivity, this television features a built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth.

Moving on, let us now discuss the remote control included with the LG OLED55B8PUA. The LG OLED55B8PUA comes with a magic remote, as one would expect from an OLED television.

Moreover, this remote has a plastic chassis as well as a black-matte finish. However, due to its large size, this remote might not fit perfectly into your palm.

Moving to the remote’s button, you will observe a round-shaped navigation button a bit below the center of the remote. Each side of this navigation button has an arrow indicating a direction.

Interestingly, there is a scroll wheel at the center of the navigation button. This scroller works similarly to a computer mouse, allowing you to control the cursor on the television screen.

Aside from the navigation button and scroller, this remote comes with two dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Also, this remote features a full number pad.

To make things easier for users, this remote features a built-in microphone for voice input. Thus, with the help of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, you will be able to control the LG OLED55B8PUA with your voice.

For easy brand recognition, you will find an “LG” logo just at the bottom part of the remote control.

In conclusion, the LG OLED55B8PUA offers a lot of ports and connectivity as well as a magic remote with an in-built microphone. However, all of the television’s ports are on the back, which makes them difficult to access if the TV is wall-mounted.

Notwithstanding, I will be rating the LG OLED55B8PUA a nine out of ten in this port and connectivity review section.

OLED55B8PUA: Smart Features

As expected from an LG television, the LG OLED55B8PUA features LG’s exclusive webOS as its operating system. One interesting fact about this operating system is its interface.

Basically, this OS offers a smooth, user-friendly, and lag-free interface that makes navigation very easy. Also, thanks to this webOS, the LG OLED55B8PUA offers the majority of the popular streaming apps.

A few streaming apps that you will find on this television include Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Disney+, HBO, and Amazon Prime Video. In case you desire more apps on your TV, you can simply download them from the LG content store.

However, this LG content store has a limited number of streaming apps compared to the Google Playstore and Samsung store.

Nevertheless, you can stream content of your choice from mobile devices to the LG OLED55B8PUA. This can be done by simply downloading the LG Smart Share app on your mobile device.

All things considered, I will be rating the LG OLED55B8PUA an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
