65UK6300PUE: At First Glance

The LG UK6300 is a 2018 smart television series that comes in different screen sizes. You can get this television in 43, 49, 50, 55, or 65 inches.

Of all these sizes, our focus in this particular review is the 65-inch model that is best known as the LG 65UK6300PUE. This 2018 smart TV is the successor of the 2017 LG 65UJ6300.

At the time of its release, the LG 65UJ6300 was known for its IPS panel with good viewing angles and a clear display. With that knowledge, the likely question is, does the new LG 65UK6300PUE exceed its predecessor?

You’ll find the answer to that question in the remaining sections of this review.

65UK6300PUE: Design, Dimensions and Weight

Whether you intend to use a television in your personal space or in the conference room of your office – you will definitely be concerned about its design.

Even though LG has been known for providing great-looking televisions, LG 65UK6300PUE has the looks of a budget-friendly TV. As a matter of fact, LG TV is one television that has a basic but functional design befitting for its price.

To be more descriptive, this LG TV has a plastic body which is nothing compared to premium-looking high-end televisions that have a metal body. Furthermore, the bezels, back panel, and TV stand of the LG 65UK6300PUE are all made of plastic.

Despite its plastic body, this television still looks good enough and cannot be disliked for its looks. To further describe the LG 65UK6300PUE, the bezels of the television screen are fairly thick but still befitting for a modern TV.

On these bezels, there are only two things you’ll find – the LG logo and the power button. Aside from switching on the TV, this power button also serves as a controller.

By controller, I mean you can use this button to select and control the input options of this TV.

Still on its looks, the LG 65UK6300PUE is quite thick when viewed from the side. To further describe its thickness, I’ll give details on the width, depth, and height of this television.

The LG 65UK6300PUE has a dimension of 1468.1 x 88.9 x 853.4 mm (W x D x H). These figures indicate that this television is 1468.1 mm wide, 88.9 mm thick, and 853.4 mm tall.

Are you wondering if those are good figures for a television? Well, comparing this LG TV with other televisions within this price range will give you an idea.

For example, the TCL 65R615 is slimmer than this LG TV and it’s evident with its dimension of 1450.3 x 76.2 x 835.6 mm (W x D x H). Another television worth comparing is the Samsung UN65NU7100.

With its dimension of 1457.7 mm x 59. 7 mm x 837.3 mm – it is evident that this Samsung television is far slimmer than both the LG 65UK6300PUE and the TCL 65R615. In addition to dimensions, weight is something we also need to talk about.

The LG 65UK6300PUE weighs 20593 g, the TCL 65R615 on the other hand weighs 23223.9 g while the Samsung UN65NU7100 weighs 25000 g. Judging by this, we can say that LG has won this round with its far lighter weight.

Moreover, this 20593 g LG TV would not cause problems to your solid wall or table whether you wall-mount or stand it. Speaking of which, the LG 65UK6300PUE comes with a pair of sturdy plastic stands to easily set up this TV on a table.

Furthermore, these TV stands are as wide as the TV itself, so an equally wide table would be just fine.

Alternatively, if you decide to wall-mount the LG 65UK6500PUE, you can easily do so using the standard VESA size measurement of 300 x 300 mm. Notably, VESA (video electronic standard association) is an organization that concerns itself with setting display standards.

Apparently, the standards for mounting a TV are part of VESA’s display standards.

Back to the numbers, 300 x 300 mm is the standard measurement between all four holes when mounting a TV. You won’t have to use a measuring tape for this because LG has already created the holes using that measurement.

After setting up the TV, you’re probably wondering if you’ll be able to access the ports and inputs at the back. To answer that, the inputs at the back may be difficult to access if the television is placed too close to a wall.

Further details about the ports of the LG 65UK6300PUE will be included in the ports and connectivity section of this review.

Above all, the LG 65UK6300PUE has design features best deserving of an eight out of ten in this design review section. My reason for giving such a rating is because this TV’s design is basic but still functional regardless.

65UK6300PUE: Display Features

We obviously cannot talk about a television and not mention its display – which is where I’m heading. On that note, the LG 65UK6300PUE is a 65-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution with IPS LED display type.

Starting with the resolution, a 4K ultra HD resolution is typically what you’ll find in recent smart televisions. Whether it’s a low-budget or high-end TV, this resolution is just the way to go.

With the advancement in technology, many television manufacturers are not compromising this resolution for anything less. As for its effect, the LG 65UK6300PUE with its 4K UHD resolution, provides more details, image depth, and enhanced picture quality.

Another aspect of this display is the IPS LED display panel that deals with viewing angles, color reproduction, and color accuracy. In-plane switching (IPS) is well known for its ability to provide good views regardless of viewing angle.

By viewing angles, I am referring to other angles one can view a screen when you’re not sitting directly in front of it.

Having said that, when viewed from an angle, the LG 65UK6300PUE loses some screen brightness and the colors also shift. Nevertheless, the effect is nothing serious to prevent anyone from enjoying wide room viewing.

Another aspect of views to take note of is the screen brightness of a TV’s display – this is measured in nits. In the case of the LG 65UK6300PUE, this TV has maximum screen brightness of 350 nits.

To make sense of this, the LG 65UK6300PUE does not perform well in a room with low light. This performance is to be expected because low nits mean poor views in a low-lit environment.

Realistically, we cannot expect much from a low-budget TV such as this. This is especially true when high-end televisions go as far as 600 nits.

Another compromise you’ll notice in this low-budget TV is the lack of a local dimming feature. Ideally, this local dimming would have done the job of enhancing the black levels of on-screen content which in turn means a better display.

The increase in black levels would also influence the contrast ratio and HDR effect of that display.

Speaking of which, let’s talk about the contrast ratio and HDR effect of this television. To start off, the LG 65UK6300PUE has a contrast ratio of 1100:1.

Wondering what contrast ratio is? Contrast ratio is a display feature that tells the difference between the brightest or dimmest a TV can be.

In plain and practical terms, a good contrast ratio prevents what we know as a “washed out” display. Consequently, the 1100:1 contrast ratio of this LG TV will definitely not produce a washed-out on-screen display.

Despite the good contrast ratio of the LG 65UK6300PUE, the absence of local dimming makes this display struggle in a dark room. This means that blacks don’t look as deep as they should when viewing this television screen in a dark room.

Moving on, the HDR feature of the LG 65UK6300PUE does not perform as great as you might expect. Ideally, HDR is supposed to boost colors and increase the depth of this television display.

Despite having some level of depth, this LG TV does not have such pronounced HDR effect as one would expect.

On a brighter note, the LG 65UK6300PUE has impressive input lag and response time that will definitely please gamers. Before providing the figures, I’ll explain what these terms mean and why they’re important.

Input lag refers to the delay between the television on-screen display and the input. By inputs, I’m referring to a computer mouse, joystick, keyboard, or gamepad.

Response time, on the other hand, is the amount of time it takes pixels to change from one shade of color to another. It is this response time that is responsible for how fast-moving objects still retain clarity when you’re gaming or viewing fast-moving objects.

Notably, millions of pixels actually make up an image, now imagine how fast a pixel should be to provide clarity. For the LG 65UK6300PUE, its response time of 15 milliseconds and input lag of 11.5 milliseconds means that gaming with this TV is very enjoyable.

To wrap up this section, it’s fair to say that all the display features of this LG television are fair considering the price. Despite the absence of local dimming and the low-performing HDR feature, the display is still very functional.

Not forgetting, the most impressive part of this display is its great input lag and response time. Considering all these, I will rate the display features of the LG 65UK6300PUE an eight in this review section.

65UK6300PUE: Sound Features

Of what use is having a television if you cannot get a good sound out of it right? Well, that’s what we are about to talk about.

The LG 65UK6300PUE has dual speakers of 10-watts each – making a total of 20-watts. For those not familiar with this aspect, 20-watts speakers are typically what you’ll find in many televisions out there.

For a fact, you are more concerned about what this 20-watts speaker can do. Well, the speakers of the LG 65UK6300PUE are not loud enough in a large room.

However, it gets loud enough in a fair-sized room. In addition to that, this pair of speakers produce good and audible sound clarity.

To be exact, you will be able to hear dialogues (conversations between two actors in a movie) very clearly.

On the downside though, the bass levels of these speakers don’t do much. This is no surprise, after all, most television speakers these days do not have great bass levels anyway.

Your best bet to solve this issue is by getting external speakers at an additional cost. These external speakers will provide more bass and loudness to the overall sound quality of this TV.

On a different note though, the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of these speakers is one thing to love.

THD is measured in percentages and a good THD should be 1.0% or less – anything more than that will produce inaccurate sounds. Thankfully, the LG 65UK6300PUE has an impressive THD of 0.570 which means less noise and more accurate sound quality.

Having highlighted the sound features of this smart television, the LG 65UK6300PUE produces good sound quality that wouldn’t strain your ears. Such sound features deserve nothing more than an eight in this section of the LG 65UK6300PUE review.

65UK6300PUE: Ports and Connectivity Features

Whether it’s a smart TV or not, ports and connectivity are super important in televisions. For the LG 65UK6300PUE, the South-Korean company made sure to include all the necessary ports.

As I earlier mentioned in the design section, the ports on this television are located on the side and at the back. Starting with the ports on the side, there are two HDMI ports and one USB port.

The ports at the back include a composite in and an ethernet port for wired connection to the internet. You also get a radio frequency (RF) port for connecting this TV to an antenna.

Also at the back of the LG 65UK6300PUE, there are two additional HDMI ports and an additional USB port.

For music lovers, one of these HDMI ports serves as an audio return channel (ARC) port. This means you can easily use this port in connecting to a soundbar (speakers).

Asides from wired connectivity, the LG 65UK6300PUE has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connections.

Away from ports and wireless connectivity, another aspect of a television’s connectivity is its remote control. To be precise, the LG 65UK6300PUE comes with the standard LG remote.

To be more descriptive, this is the typical plastic remote without the motion sensor like LG’s magic remote. Apparently, LG did not include the magic remote which is a modern motion-sensor remote that functions as a mouse for easy navigation.

Despite excluding it from the package, the LG 65UK6300PUE is compatible with the magic remote. This means that you can always purchase the magic remote separately at an extra cost and use it for this TV.

On the other hand, those who do not mind sticking with the typical standard remote will equally enjoy it. This is because the plastic remote is very lightweight and comfortable to hold.

Not forgetting, of course, the gentle, sturdy rubber keys on the remote. Speaking of keys, the Netflix and amazon prime dedicated keys are on this remote to give you easy access to these apps with just a press.

Additionally, the moderate size of this remote still includes a full number pad, as well as the navigation, and volume control keys.

In a word, the LG 65UK6300PUE has all the ports as well as wireless connections needed to make this TV more useable. Judging by that, the ports and connectivity features of the LG 65UK6300PUE is worth an eight in this review section.

65UK6300PUE: Smart Features

Like most smart televisions, the LG 65UK6300PUE does not fall short in terms of smart features. As expected, this television runs on webOS – which is LG’s very own operating system for smart TVs.

This webOS has an appealing interface that is also easy to use. Furthermore, this operating system comes with some pre-installed applications in the LG 65UK6300PUE.

Few of these applications include Netflix, Amazon Video, Spotify, Hulu, and YouTube. In the long run, if you need more apps, you can easily download more through the LG app store.

However, do keep in mind that this LG app store will not have a wide array of apps to choose from like that of the Google Play Store.

On a different note, one benefit of having a smart television is the screen share it supports. As the name suggests, you can easily share the content on your smartphone or tablet to the LG 65UK6300PUE.

In case you’re not sure how to do that, click here to get started.

Another thing we talk about in this smart features section is voice input support that allows you to control the TV using your voice. Unfortunately, you would not be able to do that with the LG 65UK6300PUE.

The only way to use voice input is with the use of remote control with a built-in microphone that supports this feature. This means you’ll have to purchase LG’s magic remote as I earlier stated in the previous section because the standard remote does not have a built-in microphone.

To wrap up this section, I will rate the smart features of the LG 65UK6300PUE a seven in this review section. My reason for such a rating is because of the typical smart features LG included in this television.

It is a great recommendation for those who are on a budget and also for those who are not particular about smart features. As a matter of fact, the LG 65UK6300PUE is a great blend of price and value.

However, those who want a drop-dead good-looking television with incredible sound quality may have to look somewhere else.
