Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: At First Glance

Generally, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has the characteristics of a TV that will be greatly admired based on its price and features. Besides, if you’ve been following our reviews, you will notice that Samsung has a handful of TV models with lots of features in the budget range.

The Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA is one of those TV models. To be more specific, this television is a smart 4K television that comes with exceptional qualities at a budget-friendly price tag.

Speaking of price, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a price tag of $538.95 (price valid in November 2022 when I wrote this review). At that price, one might expect the television to come with certain drawbacks.

To find out these drawbacks and more about the television, proceed to the other sections below.

Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a premium design and a look that will make it the point of attraction in a room. To give more details, the television comes with very thin bezels surrounding its 55-inch display.

These bezels are built with plastic material and have a gray finish. Moreover, the bottom bezel houses a “SAMSUNG” inscription at the center, as well as a single control button underneath it.

That control button can be used to control the basic functions of the TV. These basic functions include switching on/off, volume adjustment, and channel control using a series of repeated movements.

That aside, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA comes with black plastic feet that allow you to place the TV on a desk or tabletop. These feet are wide apart and pretty tall.

As a result of their height, they allow enough room for a soundbar to fit underneath the television without obscuring the bottom part of the display. However, due to the plastic build of the feet, they feel somewhat weak and fragile.

Due to that, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA will wobble when nudged with force.

The good news, however, is that you don’t need screws to fasten the feet to the TV. All you need to do is insert the feet into the bottom part of the TV, and you are all set – cool, right?

However, this method of attachment might have contributed to the lack of absolute stability of the feet. Regardless, the free insertion of the feet makes installation easier.

Taking a look at the back of the TV, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA features a plastic back panel which is pretty much plain. The ports are also located at the back panel of the TV.

These ports sink into the back of the TV, and they all point to the left side. However, the ports might be a bit difficult to reach, especially when you mount the TV on the wall.

For the best part, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a groove at the bottom of its back panel that goes from edge to edge. This groove serves as the cable management system for the TV.

In addition to the groove, there are also clips at the back of the TV’s feet that allow you to attach cables to the TV neatly. These forms of cable management will come in handy by preventing the issue of cable tangling.

As an alternative to placing the TV on a tabletop, you can mount the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA on the wall. To do that, you will make use of the four 200 x 200 millimeter VESA holes on the back panel of the television.

Moreover, the UN55TU7000FXZA has a slim body. Hence, it should not stick out of the wall when wall-mounted.

For more details about the television’s slim body, let us discuss the TV’s dimensions and weight. In that regard, the UN55TU7000FXZA measures 1229.3 x 60.9 x 706.1 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 13879.9 g.

Compared with another 55-inch TV – the LG 55UK6300PUE – this Samsung television weighs slightly less but is significantly slimmer. To be more specific, the LG 55UK6300PUE measures 1247.1 x 88.9 x 728.9 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 13698.4 g

After much evaluation, I believe that the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA deserves a nine out of ten rating in this design review section.

Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: Display Features and Picture Quality

Bearing in mind that the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a really cool design, let’s see how its display performs. To begin with, this TV comes with a 55-inch LED display with an impressive 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

As one would expect, the television’s display should deliver colorful and sharp picture quality thanks to its 4K UHD resolution. In addition to its impressive resolution, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA display also has a high contrast ratio of 5,110:1.

However, that is not totally surprising considering the fact that the display was made with a vertical alignment (VA) panel. Nonetheless, the television will be able to render deep blacks thanks to its high contrast ratio.

Therefore, content with lots of dark/shadowy scenes will be a joy to watch on the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA. In case you are curious, the contrast ratio is the ratio between the brightest whites and darkest blacks a display can render.

On the downside, this television doesn’t support local dimming. Local dimming is a display feature that dims the backlight zones of a display so as to improve its black level.

Hence, with local dimming, a display will be able to produce deeper blacks than it would without local dimming. Sadly, the UN55TU7000FXZA doesn’t support this feature.

Moving on to the viewing angles, this is where things get pretty disappointing. To be more specific, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA display has poor viewing angles.

However, it is a known fact that VA panel displays usually have poor viewing angles. Hence, it is not particularly surprising to find out that this television’s display also has poor viewing angles.

Due to its poor viewing angles, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA might not be ideal for viewing off-center or from extreme angles. Basically, when viewing the TV off-center, there is a reduction in color accuracy, picture quality, and brightness.

Therefore, for a pleasant viewing experience, I suggest you watch the television directly from the center.

In addition to its poor viewing angles, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA display doesn’t produce enough brightness. Essentially, the peak brightness that the display can reach is only 242 nits.

As a result of its poor display brightness, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA won’t be suitable for usage in well-lit rooms.

The good news, however, is that the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA supports High Dynamic Range (HDR). HDR is a display technology that enhances color accuracy and improves display contrast when a display is rendering HDR-supported content.

Thus, when watching HDR-supported content on this Samsung television, images should look life-like and realistic. By the way, HDR-supported content is mostly found on streaming platforms such as Hulu and Netflix.

In addition to its support for HDR, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA also comes with a feature known as PurColor. This feature will enable the TV to produce quality natural primary colors needed to display color-rich images.

The goodies don’t stop there – the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA can also upscale HD content to 4K resolution thanks to a display technology called Crystal Processor 4K.

That said, let us now discuss the motion-handling performance of this television. To start with, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

For more details, refresh rate refers to how many times a display refreshes images in a second. Hence, with a 60 Hz refresh rate, this television is able to refresh images 60 times per second.

What this means is that there will be fewer blur trails when the television’s display is rendering fast-motion content. In addition to its 60 Hz refresh, this Samsung TV also has a response time of 18.5 milliseconds to support its fast-motion handling performance.

As a result, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA is good for watching sports and other fast-moving content. For clarity, response time is how fast a display changes from one color to another.

To make things better, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA offers a low input lag of 10.3 milliseconds which deems it ideal for gaming. For your information, input lag can be defined as how fast it takes a display to register signal inputs from external devices.

In summary, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA offers impressive display features despite its affordability. However, it comes with some drawbacks, such as poor viewing angles and disappointing peak brightness.

Therefore, to round up this section, I will rate the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA an eight out of ten.

Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: Sound Features

For sound production, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA uses 2 CH 20-watt speakers. The sound produced by these speakers is loud enough for casual listening.

The speakers also produce a light amount of bass. However, don’t expect enough bass for enjoying movies with lots of thumping and rumbling sounds.

This is because the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA doesn’t come with a subwoofer for producing enough amount of bass. As such, you will need to connect the TV to a soundbar in order to enjoy bass-heavy content.

On a positive note, due to the speakers’ well-balanced audio frequency, the TV produces a clear dialogue. For better understanding, dialogue is the conversation between two or more characters in a movie or TV show.

Thus, you should enjoy watching conversation-driven content on the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA. Aside from the dialogue clarity, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA is equipped with a sound technology called Dolby Audio.

This sound technology allows the TV’s speakers to produce clear, rich, and immersive sound quality. In addition to that, Dolby Audio also enables the speakers to deliver a good surround sound experience.

Away from the sound technology, let’s discuss the distortion performance of the television’s speakers. To offer details on that, I will be providing you with the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) test results of the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA.

Before then, let me explain what the THD test means. THD is a sound test that calculates the amount of distortion present in the sound produced by a sound device.

Furthermore, a score of 1% or higher in this test means the sound device produces a significant amount of distortion. However, any score less than 1% on the test implies the sound device produces a minimal amount of distortion.

Sadly, at the maximum volume level, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA scored 1.236% on the THD test. However, at an 80% volume level, the television scored 0.197%.

Therefore, the television will produce a significant amount of distortion at the maximum volume level. Nonetheless, the distortion will reduce if the television is set to an 80% or lower volume level.

In case you are wondering, distortion in this context is the deformation of audio frequencies. Thereby allowing a sound device to generate unwanted noise and unpleasant sound quality.

All in all, I will conclude this section by rating the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA a seven out of ten.

Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has a panel on the left side of its back panel, which houses all its ports. These ports include two HDMI ports – one of these ports supports Audio Return Channel (ARC).

Thus, you can connect a soundbar or HDMI-supported external sound device to the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA with this HDMI-ARC port. In addition to the HDMI ports, this television also has a digital optical audio out and an RF port.

There is also an Ethernet port, a power inlet, and a USB port. When it comes to wireless connectivity, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA has WiFi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

Moving on, this Samsung television comes with a TM1240A remote control, just like most entry-level Samsung TVs. This remote is made of plastic and has a black brushed finish.

It is also a bit large and has a lot of buttons. Speaking of buttons, there is a full number pad, an input menu button, a power button, a channel rocker, and a volume rocker on the remote control.

The remote control also has a plus-shaped directional pad and playback buttons. That’s not all; you will also find three dedicated buttons for quick access to streaming services on the remote control.

These streaming services include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Samsung TV Plus. Sadly, despite featuring so many buttons, this television’s remote lacks a built-in microphone for voice input.

In conclusion, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA features a limited number of ports. Hence, the television deserves a seven out of ten in this ports and connectivity features review section.

Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA: Smart Features

For smart functionality, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA uses the Tizen operating system. This operating system offers an easy-to-use interface with a minimal latency rate.

Also, it comes with lots of pre-installed major streaming services and apps. These include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Disney, Hulu, Vudu, Google Play Movies & TV, and Samsung TV Plus.

Impressively, you can also download more streaming services and applications on the television through the Samsung App Store. To make things even better, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA is cast-compatible.

Therefore, you can cast/mirror your smartphone screen on the TV. Gladly, you can also pair your iOS devices to the TV, thanks to AirPlay 2.

Hence, you can stream your favorite music and video on the TV from your iOS devices. The Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA’s impressive smart features don’t stop there – the Tizen OS is integrated with Samsung’s very own voice AI called Bixby.

With the help of Bixby, you can send voice commands to the TV through the aid of smart speakers. This is because the remote that comes with the television or the television itself doesn’t feature a built-in microphone.

Sadly, the Tizen OS supports ads that cannot be disabled.

Nonetheless, the Samsung UN55TU7000FXZA deserves a nine out of ten rating in this smart features review section.
