If a product video remains in “preview processing,” work through the asset and feed before waiting or resubmitting: confirm that the video_link attribute is being used, open the exact URL without signing in, verify Google’s file limits, inspect the data-source and product diagnostics, and use a new unique URL if the file was replaced. Google does not publish a guaranteed duration or a dedicated fix for a status specifically labelled “preview processing.”
The checks below separate a bad or unreachable asset from a feed error, an account-level serving issue, and a normal recrawl. That distinction matters because a video can fail to serve while the associated product offer remains approved.
What “preview processing” means in Merchant Center
Merchant Center product videos are supplied with the optional video_link attribute. The value can be a YouTube URL or a URL hosted elsewhere. A non-YouTube value must lead directly to the video file, not to a product page or a landing page that contains an embedded player.

Google’s video-link guidance states: “This attribute won’t impact the approval status of your offers.” Therefore, investigate the video separately from any product approval message.
1. Confirm that you are troubleshooting the right video feature
Start by identifying where the video was submitted. The relevant case is a product-data video supplied through the Merchant Center video_link field. It is not the same as a video uploaded to another Google service, a video embedded in your product-page HTML, or a creative uploaded through a separate advertising workflow.
Check the affected data source
- Identify the feed, file, API source or other data source that contains the product with the stuck video.
- Open the product data and confirm that the field name is exactly
video_linkfor that source. - Copy the URL as Merchant Center received it; do not troubleshoot a different copy from your website.
- If several videos are supplied, identify which URL corresponds to the preview that is processing.
A product page can display a perfectly working player while the submitted video_link is invalid. Merchant Center retrieves the value in the data source, so the page’s embedded player is not proof that the feed URL is usable.

Most persistent processing problems begin with retrieval. Test the exact URL independently of Merchant Center, then correct the hosting or feed value before uploading another copy.
The URL must identify a retrievable file
- Use an
http://orhttps://URL. - For a non-YouTube host, point directly to the raw video file. A page with an embedded player is not a raw file URL.
- Make the file publicly accessible without a login, cookie, paywall or special permission.
- Keep the address stable. Expiring, signed or otherwise temporary links can stop working when Google tries to fetch them.
- Check that robots.txt or another crawler rule does not block Googlebot from the file.
- URL-encode special characters. Characters that have meaning in a feed or URL must not be left in an ambiguous form.
Perform a practical access test
- Open the copied URL in a private browser window where you are not logged in.
- Confirm that the response is the video itself, rather than an HTML page, a sign-in screen or an error page.
- Try the URL from a network that is not inside your company’s private network if the file is hosted internally.
- Review the host’s access controls and robots.txt rules for Googlebot.
- If the address expires or changes, publish the file at a permanent public URL and update the feed.
Do not infer that a link is crawlable merely because it plays for you. A browser session may have credentials or a cookie that Google does not have.

3. Check every documented video requirement
Google’s current video-link specification lists the following eligibility limits. Meeting them makes the file technically eligible; it does not guarantee a particular processing speed or that the video will pass policy and quality review.

If the file is outside any limit, export a compliant version, place it at a public stable URL and update the source. Do not assume that a compliant file will clear “preview processing” immediately; the limits describe eligibility, not a service-level agreement.
4. Verify how the feed represents video_link
A valid file can still be lost or malformed while the data source is being generated. Inspect the source exactly as Merchant Center received it.
Check the attribute value
- Make sure the URL is in the
video_linkfield, not a similarly named custom column. - Remove accidental quotation marks, line breaks or spaces that become part of the value.
- Confirm that the value is the complete URL, including its protocol.
- If a product has multiple video URLs, verify the delimiter required by the source format.
For tab-separated values, Google’s video documentation describes multiple URLs as comma-separated values. A comma that belongs inside a URL must be URL-encoded so it is not interpreted as the separator. Apply the escaping before the file is uploaded, then inspect the parsed value in the source report.
Recheck generated feeds
If a feed is produced by a script or catalog system, inspect the generated file rather than the template. A variable can be empty for one product, encode a URL twice, or substitute a tracking or expiring address. Compare the row for the affected item with a row whose video has processed successfully.

5. Read Merchant Center’s diagnostic reports
Use the reports in this order so that a source error is not confused with an account or product issue.

- In Merchant Center, open Settings > Data sources.
- Select the affected source.
- Open Latest update and read the upload, file and attribute messages for the update that contained the video URL.
- Correct any reported syntax, file or attribute problem and submit a fresh update.
- Then open Products > Needs attention and inspect the affected product and video-related issues.
The source report is useful but deliberately limited. Google states: “Data source processing only checks for basic file and data issues.” That means a clean Latest update report is not a complete account review. Products > Needs attention can show additional serving, policy or quality problems that the data-source processing check does not cover.
Interpret common outcomes
- Upload or file error: Fix the source file, encoding or URL representation, then upload again.
- Attribute error: Correct the
video_linkvalue or the way multiple URLs are delimited. - No source error, product issue present: Follow the issue details under Products > Needs attention; the video may have passed basic ingestion but failed a later check.
- No issue anywhere: Continue with the URL replacement and timing guidance below rather than repeatedly submitting the same value.
6. Handle replacements and recrawls correctly
The URL strategy changes how quickly Google can discover that a video is different. Use a new unique URL when replacing the video’s contents.

During processing of a new URL, the product can show an “Under Review” state and the old video may continue serving. That behavior is preferable to deleting the working asset while the replacement is checked.
A unique URL should still be permanent, publicly retrievable and compliant with the file requirements. Do not replace a stable URL with a short-lived download link simply to force a recrawl.

Troubleshoot by the symptom you see
The preview has been processing, but no error is shown
First complete the URL, crawler and file checks, then read both diagnostic locations. If the exact “preview processing” label remains with no issue details, Google’s published material does not define a normal duration for that state or a universal escalation threshold. Avoid repeatedly uploading the identical URL; if the contents changed, use a new unique URL.
The product is approved, but the video is absent
This can be expected when the video fails serving eligibility, policy or quality checks. Google says such errors can prevent the video from serving without affecting the associated offer, and the video_link attribute does not change offer approval status. Inspect Products > Needs attention for the video-specific reason.
The URL works in a browser but Google cannot process it
Check for login requirements, expiring signatures, private-network restrictions, a landing page instead of a raw file, and robots.txt rules that block Googlebot. Re-test the exact value stored in the source, not a manually edited version.
The video was edited in place and the old preview remains
Keeping the same URL can delay discovery of the replacement for up to six weeks. Publish the revised file at a new unique URL, update video_link, and allow the old video to serve while the new one is reviewed.
The file is valid but still fails review
Technical compliance does not guarantee serving approval. Revisit Products > Needs attention and the issue details in the account. A policy or quality issue requires a content or presentation change, not merely another upload.

How long does Merchant Center take to process a product video?
There is no documented guaranteed wait time for a status explicitly labelled “preview processing.” Google’s 24–72-hour figure applies to a crawl typically prompted by a new unique video URL. Its up-to-six-week figure applies to detecting and recrawling changed content behind an existing URL. Neither figure is an SLA promising that a preview will clear in that period.
Do not transfer image-crawl timing to videos. Image-specific advice concerns image attributes and does not establish a video-processing schedule. If the URL, file, feed and diagnostics are clean but the same state persists, use the issue details in the account and contact Google Merchant Center support with the source name, product identifier, exact video URL, update time and screenshots of both diagnostic pages.

Google’s 2026 product data specification update separates the rollout of checks:

- April 14, 2026: technical validation errors for
video_linkbegan being reported. - June 30, 2026: serving-eligibility, policy and quality checks began.
These dates explain why an account can show a technically accepted URL but later report a serving problem. A policy or quality error can stop the video from appearing while leaving the associated offer eligible to serve.
Final pre-escalation checklist
- The affected product uses the optional
video_linkattribute. - The submitted value is an
http://orhttps://URL to a raw file, not a player page. - The URL is public, stable, non-expiring and not blocked to Googlebot.
- The file is MPG, MP4, WMV, AVI, MOV, FLV, MPEG-1 or MPEGPS.
- The duration is 6–240 seconds, size is no more than 500 MB, aspect ratio is 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1, and resolution is at least 1280×720.
- Any special characters are URL-encoded, and multiple TSV URLs use the documented comma handling.
- Settings > Data sources > Latest update shows no unresolved basic file or attribute error.
- Products > Needs attention shows no unresolved video serving, policy or quality issue.
- If the content changed, the feed now uses a new unique URL.
After these checks, stop treating the label alone as a promise of a particular completion time. Preserve the old serving video when possible, monitor the account diagnostics, and escalate with the exact account evidence if Google continues to show the same state.
