This Itechguide teaches you how to check in on Facebook. To “Check in” on Facebook means to share your current location.

Option 1: Check in from Android or iPhone

How to Check in on Facebook from Android

The steps to Check In on Facebook (share your location on Facebook) is the same on the Android and iPhone Apps.

  • Open Facebook App on your Android phone.

  • Then, at the bottom right of What’s on your mind?, tap Check In. If your Location Services is turned on, Facebook will display a list of nearby locations.
  • Select a location. Alternatively, if Location Services is NOT turned On on your device or you want to Check In with a different location, type the location into the search box.
  • Then, from the displayed search results, tap the location you want to Check In on Facebook with.
  • When you tap a location, Facebook may display the option to Tag people.
  • If you are alone in the location you are Checking In from or do not wish to Tag any of your Friends, at the top right of the page, tap SKIP.
  • Alternatively, to Tag any of your Friends, select them from the Suggestions list. You could also search for Friend to Tag using the search option.
  • After Tagging your Friends, at the top right of the Tag people screen, tap DONE. You will be returned to the Create post screen.
  • The location you added will be displayed. All the people you Tagged will also be named in the list.
  • Before you share the post, determine who sees the post by clicking the Privacy drop-down – mine shows Public by default. Depending on your default privacy settings, yours may differ. From the drop-down list, select who will see the post. You may also add some texts by tapping the What’s on your mind? field. Then, type what you want to share with your location details.
  • Finally, to check in on Facebook (share your current location), at the top right of the Create post screen, tap POST. You have successfully checked In on Facebook!

Option 2: Check in from a PC (Facebook.com)

  • Open Facebook.com from a browser in your PC. Then, login with your Email or Phone and Password.

  • At the bottom right of What’s on your mind?, click Check in. Facebook will display a list of nearby locations.

  • If your current location is listed, select it from the list. Alternatively, type the name of the location you want to Check In with into the search bar. Then, from the displayed search results, select a location.
  • Facebook will display a preview of your selected location on the map.

  • If you are with any of your Friends in your Check In location, click Tag friends. Then add the fiends with you.
  • You could also optionally add a text (describe what your are doing in the location). To add a text, click What’s on your mind?.
  • Finally, to check in on Facebook from Facebook.com on a PC, at the bottom of the Create post pop up window, click Post.
