Option 1: Change Username from the Instagram App
The steps in this section was performed from the Android App but they are applicable to the iPhone App.
- Open the Instagram App on your phone. Then, if you have not signed into the App before, sign in with your Instagram account.
- When the App opens, at the bottom right tap your profile icon tab.
- On your Instagram profile, beneath your profile picture tap Edit profile. Your profile will open for editing.
- To change username on Instagram, tap the Username field and type a new username.
- When you enter a new username, Instagram will check that the username has not been taken by another Instagram user. If the username is available, the app will a display green tick beside the Username field.
If the new Instagram username you typed is not available, the App will display a red x. Try different usernames until you get a green tick.
- Finally, to save your new Instagram Username, at the top right of the App, tap the Save icon.
Option 2: Change Username from a PC (Instagram.com)
- Open Instagram.com (link opens in a new browser tab) from your PC or Mac. Then, if you have not signed in to your Instagram account before, sign in.
- On the top right of the page, click the account settings icon. You could also click your profile icon/username.
- When your profile opens, click Edit Profile. Your Instagram profile will open for editing.
- Finally, to change username on Instagram enter a new username into the Username field. To save your changes, scroll down and click Submit.
