Starting my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies, at no 10 is “Cape Fear”.
The movie is about a criminal Max Cady who was convicted of raping a young girl. After fourteen years, Max was released from prison. However, for most of his time in prison, Max has been planning for revenge.
Immediately he became a free man, Max seeks out the lawyer that defended him. Subsequently, Max stalks and terrorizes the lawyer and his family.
“Cape Fear” is one of the best Robert de Niro movies. It features crime and thriller. You can watch the movie now on Netflix.
Joker
At no 9 in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “Joker”.
The story-line of the movie is about a clown Arthur Fleck who wishes to be a stand-up comedian. However, Arthur has a mental health problem that makes him burst into uncontrollable laughter.
In the midst of his struggle to be a comedian, he was invited by his idol to a TV show. Shockingly, while on the live TV show, Arthur committed a brutal murder that sparks a crime revolution in the city.
“Joker” features crime, drama, and thriller – with Robert de Niro adding a touch of brilliance to the movie in his role. If you want an exciting drama movie, this one is the perfect match. It is available now on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
The King of Comedy
“The King of Comedy” comes at no 8 in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies.
The movie is about an aspiring comedian Rupert Pupkin who longs to be in the spotlight. To get his chance, Rupert approaches his Idol Jerry Langford who is a talk-show host to perform on the show.
However, trying multiples times, Rupert was denied a spot on Jerry‘s talk show. In desperation, Rupert kidnaps the talk-show host with the hope of having a chance to perform his comic act.
“The King of Comedy” features comedy, drama, crime, and thriller. If you watch the movie, it promises to be worthwhile. You can watch it now on Amazon Prime.
Casino (1995)
Coming 7th in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “Casino”.
The story-line revolves around two friends as they embark on a journey to get rich and powerful. When the two friends Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro move to Las Vegas, they set their sight on getting rich.
Subsequently, as the two friends make their mark, there was a change of direction between them. Hence, it leads to more drama between the two friends – resulting in a saga of greed, deception, murder, and power.
“Casino (1995)” features thrilling drama and crime. It is one of the best Robert de Niro movies to watch on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
The Deer Hunter
“The Deer Hunter” is no 6 in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies.
The movie is set in a time of the U.S Vietnam war. During this period, three best friends Michael, Steven, and Nicky were enlisted to fight in the war. Within the same time, one of the friends Nicky got married.
After surviving the horror of the war, Michael returns home and he discovers Steven is handicapped. Consequently, Michael finds out Nicky has not come back home. As a result, to rescue Nicky, Michael returns to Vietnam.
“The Deer Hunter” is a fantastic war movie with drama. If you have longed to see Robert in war movies, you need to see this one. You can add the movie to your watch-list on Amazon Prime.
Taxi Driver
Ranking at no 5 in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “Taxi Driver”.
The story-line of the movie is about a war veteran Travis Bickle who works as a taxi driver. Due to his insomnia, Travis works mostly at night in New York City. Consequently, while observing the inhuman activities during his nighttime, Travis feels the need to act.
Subsequently, with the intention of making things right, Travis sets out to save an underage prostitute from her pimp. Furthermore, Travis moves to save a presidential campaign worker whom he is obsessed with.
“Taxi Driver” is a superb production. It features crime and drama. You can watch the movie now on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The Godfather: Part II
Taking the 4 spot my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “The Godfather: Part II”.
The movie tells the story of the early days and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City – after Vito Corleone, his son Michael took over the family crime syndicate.
In the 1950s, to establish their authority, Michael tries to expand the family enterprise to Cuba, Las Vegas, and Hollywood. “The Godfather: Part II” shows the drama and crime that occur during those period.
“The Godfather: Part II ” features crime and drama. It is surely one of the best Robert de Niro movies. You can watch it now on Amazon Prime.
The Irishman
“The Irishman” ranks 3rd in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies.
The movie is about the former labor union high official Frank Sheeran referred to as The Irishman – as he reflects on his past life in the mob. More importantly, Frank explains his involvement with the Bufalino crime family and disappearance of his life-long friend Jimmy Hoffa.
“The Irishman” shows the drama, organized crime that leads to high crime rate in America after the second world war.
“The Irishman” is a fine production. It features biography, crime, and drama. If you want the best of Robert de Niro movies, you need to add this one to your watch-list. It is available on Netflix.
Goodfellas
Coming 2nd in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “Goodfellas”.
The movie tells the story of Henry Hill as he begins his life in the mob. More importantly, how Henry relates to his wife and fellow mobsters – Jimmy Conway and Tommy De Vito – in the Italian-American crime syndicate.
While Jimmy Conway and Tommy De Vito aim high in the mob hierarchy, Henry has to make an important decision.
“Goodfellas” features crime, drama, and biography with exciting scenes. It is arguably one of the best movies with Robert de Niro giving a great display. It is available to watch on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
Raging Bull
Lastly, at no 1 in my pick of the best Robert de Niro movies is “Raging Bull”.
The movie tells the story of a boxer Jaxer LaMotta as he navigates his boxing career and personal life. While in the ring, Jaxer LaMotta faces his opponent with rage and violence.
Meanwhile, outside the ring, Jaxer still chooses to behave with rage towards his friends and family. Whereas Jaxer LaMotta always wishes to receive love and affection from his family and friends but his rage seems to get in the way.
“Raging Bull” is an outstanding production. It features drama, sport, and biography. If you want to have a smashing experience, you need to see this movie. It is available now on Amazon Prime.
