The movie tells the romantic story between a silent-era egoistic legend George Valentin and a young rising actress Peppy Miller. During a movie premiere, when Peppy comes across Valentin and she kisses him on the cheek, it made the headlines with photographers having every shot.

Consequently, Peppy made her way into the industry by auditioning for a dancing bit-part at the studio. However, as Peppy is gradually becoming a starlet in the industry with the introduction of talking pictures, Valentin‘s world took a downhill.
