As of August 10, 2026, Santa is at the North Pole, where NORAD says he lives with Mrs. Claus, the elves, and the reindeer while preparing for Christmas. The live Santa flight trackers are seasonal: NORAD begins tracking when Santa launches on December 24, and Google’s live journey also returns for Christmas Eve.
Quick answer: Santa is not currently flying. Visit NORAD Tracks Santa or Google Santa Tracker on December 24 to follow his progress.
Where is Santa right now?
According to NORAD’s official Santa FAQ, Santa is currently at the North Pole preparing for his annual Christmas Eve journey. NORAD does not begin its live flight tracking until Santa departs on December 24.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat distinction matters: in August, the trackers may offer seasonal information, games, or preparation activities, but they should not be described as showing a live Santa route. The live map and location updates become relevant once the Christmas Eve flight begins.

How to track Santa with NORAD
- On December 24, open the official NORAD Tracks Santa website.
- Use the countdown, North Pole Village, or live map when the flight begins.
- For a telephone update in the United States, call 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723).
- If you prefer not to call, use the official NORAD app, the website’s web-calling option when available, or NORAD’s official social and partner channels.
NORAD’s latest confirmed schedule was for December 24, 2025: live operators answered calls from 4:00 a.m. until midnight Mountain Standard Time. The automated system and website continued tracking until 3:00 a.m. on December 25. Those hours are a useful reference, not confirmed 2026 hours.
For U.S. readers, the 2025 operator start time was approximately:

What NORAD offered before Christmas in 2025
NORAD’s 2025 announcement said its North Pole Village opened on December 1. It included a countdown, games, films, music, a web store, and other holiday content. The site was available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, and Korean. These details describe the latest confirmed season and should be rechecked when the 2026 version launches.
How to track Santa with Google
- Open Google Santa Tracker in a modern web browser.
- Before Christmas Eve, explore Santa’s Village and its games and preparation activities.
- Return on December 24 to follow the journey on Google’s map.
- Use the current interface to check features such as Santa’s next stop, videos, gift totals, visited places, distance from your location, and estimated arrival information when available.
Google describes its tracker as a Christmas Eve journey showing where Santa is headed and how many presents he has delivered. The exact feature set can change from year to year. For example, the 2025 observed experience included a live map, next-stop information, video content, location estimates, visited-place imagery, a delivery counter, and distance-from-location information. Do not assume every feature or label will appear unchanged in 2026.

- Use both if you want to compare the experiences, but remember that they are independent systems and are not guaranteed to show identical locations at every moment.
NORAD’s tradition dates to 1955, when a child attempting to call Santa reached the Continental Air Defense Command because of a misprinted telephone number. Colonel Harry Shoup played along and asked staff to check Santa’s location. When NORAD was established in 1958, it inherited the tradition and says it has reported Santa’s location every December 24 since then.
Google’s Santa-tracking project dates to 2004. Google later developed its own tracker and route experience rather than simply reproducing NORAD’s presentation.
How does NORAD say it tracks Santa?
NORAD presents Santa tracking as a playful extension of the aerospace-warning systems associated with its regular mission. Its official explanation has three parts:
- Radar: NORAD says the North Warning System, including 49 radar installations across northern Canada and Alaska, watches for indications that Santa has left the North Pole.
- Satellites: NORAD says satellites with infrared sensors look for Rudolph’s bright red nose.
- Aircraft: NORAD describes Canadian CF-18 and U.S. fighter aircraft as escorting Santa during the journey.
This is NORAD’s official, whimsical account of the tradition. It should not be presented as a conventional commercial GPS-transponder service or as a normal military tracking operation directed at a real aircraft.
Where does Santa go first, and when will he reach your home?
NORAD says Santa usually begins near the International Date Line and travels west. The traditional route has included the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Central and South America.
The route can vary, and NORAD says it cannot predict the precise time Santa will reach a particular home. Historically, NORAD has observed Santa arriving in many countries between approximately 9:00 p.m. and midnight on December 24, usually when children are asleep.
That range is a tradition, not a guaranteed household ETA. Google may show an estimated arrival time for a location, but treat it as a tracker estimate rather than a promise. Santa’s exact route and timing can change, and neither service should be used to infer a precise arrival at a specific address.

Other ways to ask where Santa is
The official websites and phone line are free and remain the simplest options. Families that already use Alexa may also be able to ask through the NORAD Santa skill on Alexa. Amazon’s documentation has described an Echo Show displaying Santa information in the off-season and, on Christmas Eve, showing a map and telling users where Santa is delivering presents.
An Echo Show 5 smart display is an optional hands-free route for families who want a voice query plus a screen. You do not need to buy a device to use NORAD or Google, and the Alexa skill’s availability and exact behavior should be verified for the relevant market before Christmas 2026.
An audio-only Alexa device such as an Echo Dot may be suitable for a spoken answer, but it does not provide the same screen-based map experience. Existing OnStar or SiriusXM users may also see Santa-related access among NORAD’s partner channels when the current holiday program confirms it; these services are not required for tracking.
What to do if the tracker is not working
The map is not live yet
Before December 24, this is usually expected. The live flight begins when Santa launches, while the pre-flight sites may show a countdown, games, or North Pole activities instead.
NORAD and Google show different locations
They are separate services. Refresh the page, confirm that you are using the official domains, and check both services’ current status. Do not expect second-by-second agreement.

Check the current NORAD holiday announcement for that year’s operator hours. Outside live-operator hours, the automated system or website may continue to provide updates. Web calling, app access, and partner channels may also be available depending on the season.
A feature from an older guide is missing
Use the current tracker interface rather than assuming that a feature was permanently removed. Google and NORAD can change their games, labels, maps, language options, and partner integrations from one holiday season to the next.
