Office 2024 adds more flexible Excel formulas and charts, Word recovery and review tools, new Outlook meeting options, accessibility improvements, and a refreshed design. Which features you get depends on the app, platform, and whether you buy consumer Office 2024 or Office LTSC 2024. Unlike Microsoft 365, Office 2024 is a one-time purchase with a fixed feature set rather than continuing feature updates.
What’s new in Office 2024?
Microsoft describes Office 2024 as a one-time release that includes a subset of Microsoft 365 Apps features. Its changes focus on practical tasks in Excel, Word, and Outlook, alongside a new visual theme and accessibility updates. These are Microsoft’s stated capabilities; the available product information does not establish independent productivity gains.
Excel: 14 new text and array functions
Excel 2024 adds 14 text and array functions for extracting, splitting, combining, reshaping, resizing, and selecting data. They offer more ways to transform information with formulas. Microsoft also describes dynamic charts that can refer to dynamic arrays and update when those arrays recalculate, allowing a chart to reflect a changing number of data points. Microsoft’s Office 2024 feature overview lists these capabilities.
Word: recover a session and manage reviews
Word 2024 can reopen documents that were open when Word closed unexpectedly, helping you resume work from that session. Consumer Word also adds modern comments and lets reviewers switch among Viewing, Reviewing, and Editing modes. Resolved comments can be deleted in one action. These collaboration features are not available in Word LTSC 2024, according to Microsoft’s Word 2024 feature page.

Outlook: more ways to schedule meetings
Outlook 2024 includes meeting-creation options such as automatically shortening meetings according to their length, which can leave breaks between calls. Do not assume every option appears for every Outlook user: Microsoft’s Outlook feature information notes that some capabilities may be unavailable in the consumer edition or may require a cloud-based account. Check the specific feature’s applicability to your edition, account, and platform.
What else changed?
Updated look and accessibility
Office 2024 has a new default theme based on Microsoft Fluent Design principles, as well as accessibility improvements. The feature overview also lists OpenDocument Format 1.4 support, comment reactions, and other app-specific changes. Some overview items are limited by edition, platform, or app; for example, the Android picture-insertion capability is described in particular Office LTSC contexts. Other app-specific additions
Microsoft also lists OneNote ink and Draw updates and Access and Dataverse-related capabilities. These are not universal additions across all Office apps or editions. Consult the relevant app and edition information before relying on a particular capability.
Office 2024 and Office LTSC 2024 are not interchangeable
Consumer Office 2024 and Office LTSC 2024 are related one-time releases, but Microsoft’s feature lists distinguish them. The clearest example is Word: consumer Word 2024 has the modern comment and review features described above, while Word LTSC 2024 does not. Some additional items in Microsoft’s overview are also specifically associated with LTSC, or qualified by platform or app. Microsoft says both Office 2024 and Office LTSC 2024 include a subset of Microsoft 365 Apps features; that does not make the releases identical to one another or to Microsoft 365.
