Running out of Refining Stones in Aion 2 usually means you are farming the wrong grade, not that the material has disappeared. Stop crafting temporarily, check the recipe’s required stone, and match that grade to an eligible source. Common stones are used for common gear, Expert’s for rare gear, Artisan’s for epic gear, and Artisan’s Ultimate for unique Dragon Lord gear.
The routes and rewards are patch-sensitive. The most detailed current figures below come from a guide using Global client launcher version 27 data, read October 9, 2026 and updated October 11. Confirm the source and reward in your client before committing time or currency.
First, identify the stone grade you actually need
Open the crafting recipe for the item you want to make and read the material line rather than relying on the item’s color or your character level. A higher-level character can still be crafting a recipe that consumes a lower-grade stone, while a single upgrade can move the requirement into a completely different source pool.

This grade mapping is reported by the current Global-client materials guide. It is the essential first check when a search for “refining stones” produces advice for a different tier.

Why the shortage can feel sudden
Refining Stones are not one universal currency. A stockpile of Common stones does nothing for an Expert’s recipe, and an Expert’s reward from an achievement cannot be assumed to cover an Artisan’s craft. Rewards also differ by activity, so repeatedly clearing a route that pays Common stones will not solve an Expert’s shortage just because the activity’s name appears in a general item database.
Where each grade comes from
Use the table as a routing map, then inspect the current activity description. Named activities and reward tables can change with patches, seasons and regional clients.

Common Refining Stones
If the recipe requires the Common grade, start with ordinary monsters and Expedition reward chests. The item database also lists Sanctuary and Shugo Festival as source categories, while the associated wiki names specific monsters, Expeditions, a Sanctuary and festival activities. Treat those names as a checklist, not a guarantee that every named route is active in your patch.

Expert’s Refining Stones
Expert’s shortages are especially easy to create while leveling. The current materials guide reports 62 Expert’s stones per character from achievements, based on Global launcher version 27 data. It recommends claiming those achievements early because that one-time amount is large compared with the Expedition returns it analyzed. The same guide recommends skipping Expert’s gear while leveling as a resource strategy; that is an author’s recommendation, not a requirement. If you already claimed the achievements, inspect each Expedition and activity reward panel for the Expert’s icon before spending stamina or entry tickets.
Artisan’s Refining Stones
The same guide reports 57 Artisan’s stones per character from achievements. Because this is a one-time character reward, reserve it for a recipe you have confirmed you can finish rather than claiming or spending it speculatively. For repeatable farming, compare the grade shown in Expedition, event and mode reward previews; a route that pays Expert’s stones is not an Artisan’s route merely because both materials have similar names.
Artisan’s Ultimate Refining Stones
The Global-client guide reports 28 Artisan’s Ultimate stones per character from achievements. A separate guide checked against Global launch client 2.0.5.0 lists Season Shop and Arena chest options in addition to achievements. Seasonal inventories and chest tables are particularly likely to change, so open the current shop or chest preview and verify the Ultimate-grade icon before buying keys, entries or currency.

A recovery plan you can follow now
- Stop the failed craft loop. Do not consume more enhancement materials until you know the stone grade and quantity shown in the recipe.
- Record the requirement. Note the exact grade, number of stones, and whether the recipe is for common, rare, epic or unique Dragon Lord gear.
- Check achievements. Open the achievement reward list and claim any unclaimed Refining Stone rewards that match the grade. These rewards are one-time per character.
- Inspect repeatable activities. Open Expedition, Sanctuary, Shugo Festival, arena and seasonal reward previews. Look for the exact stone grade, not a generic “refining material” label.
- Check your level and mode access. Supply Requests begin at level 25 according to the current materials guide. Arena, seasonal and higher-tier Expedition access can have separate requirements.
- Use currency only after confirming the exchange. At level 25 and above, Supply Requests can accept Refining Stones in exchange for Abyss Points and Enhance Stones. Quantities are recipe-specific and should be read from the live request panel.
- Trade surplus if possible. Tradeable stones can be listed on the in-game Market. Sell only a grade you have verified you will not need for an imminent craft; bound stones cannot be moved this way.
- Recheck after a patch or event reset. Reward tables, event availability and trading rules can change without changing the item’s name.
How to use achievements without wasting the supply
Achievement rewards are the most predictable emergency source because they do not depend on a random monster drop, but they are also finite. The current Global-client guide reports the following per-character totals:

These are not guaranteed lifetime values for every region or future patch. Claiming an achievement does not make the stones interchangeable, and spending an Ultimate reward on a lower-grade recipe is usually irreversible. Before claiming a reward, compare the reward grade with the recipe currently blocking you and with the next craft you realistically plan to make.
Expeditions, monsters and events: choosing a repeatable route
Expeditions
Expedition reward chests are listed as a source for Common stones, and the materials guide compares Expedition returns with the large Expert’s achievement reward. Open the chest preview before entering: the relevant question is “Does this chest award my grade?” rather than “Does this Expedition award a Refining Stone?” Track entry costs, reset timers and the number of stones obtained per completion so you can compare routes on the same basis.

Monsters and field bosses
Monster loot is a listed Common-stone source. Field bosses are also named among the broad source categories in the current materials guide, but the grade and drop behavior can vary by boss and patch. If a boss is not displaying a reward preview, treat an unverified drop claim as uncertain and do not spend rare entry items solely on the expectation of an Expert’s, Artisan’s or Ultimate stone.
Sanctuary and Shugo Festival
Sanctuary and Shugo Festival activities appear in the Common-stone database and wiki listings. Festival inventories are event-bound, and Sanctuary routes can be adjusted with content updates. Use the live activity window to confirm dates, participation limits and the grade shown in the reward list.

The launch-client fan guide checked against version 2.0.5.0 lists Season Shop and Arena chests for Artisan’s Ultimate stones. This is useful when achievements are exhausted, but it is not evidence that the same inventory remains in Global client launcher version 27. Check the current season shop, arena chest description and purchase limit before converting currency.

Supply Requests and the Market
From level 25, Supply Requests can accept Refining Stones in exchange for Abyss Points and Enhance Stones, according to the current materials guide. This is an exchange option, not free generation: compare the request’s cost with the value of the craft and with the time required to earn the currencies. Because the guide cautions that quantities are recipe-specific, use the amount displayed in your client rather than an old screenshot or remembered number.
Tradeable stones can be sold through the in-game Market. The Market is useful when one character has surplus Common or Expert’s stones and another needs that grade, but it cannot solve a shortage of bound materials. Check the item tooltip for its trade status, then compare the listing price with the Abyss Point and Enhance Stone cost of a Supply Request. Prices and available listings are server-dependent and can change quickly.
Common reasons players think the system is broken
- Searching for the wrong grade: A Common-stone route will not satisfy an Expert’s, Artisan’s or Artisan’s Ultimate recipe.
- Assuming stones can be gathered or crafted: A third-party guide checked against Global launch client 2.0.5.0 states that no Refining Stone tier can be gathered or crafted. Treat that as a client-specific finding and confirm the current recipe and gathering interfaces.
- Expecting a repeatable achievement: The reported 62, 57 and 28 rewards are per-character, one-time achievement totals.
- Using a stale event guide: Season Shop, Shugo Festival and arena rewards can rotate or disappear after a season or patch.
- Confusing a material name with a reward: Read the reward icon and grade in the activity panel; a chest described as containing “refining materials” may not contain the tier you need.
- Following a strategy recommendation as a rule: Skipping Expert’s gear while leveling may preserve stones, but it is an efficiency suggestion, not a restriction on crafting.
- Expecting a universal fastest route: Current evidence does not establish one fastest source across all grades, servers and access levels.
How to prevent the next shortage
- Check the stone grade before accepting or beginning a craft.
- Keep a small reserve for the next gear breakpoint instead of spending every stone immediately.
- Claim one-time achievement rewards before investing heavily in Expedition runs, but spend them only on the matching grade.
- When comparing activities, record grade, repeatability, character or mode access, time cost and weekly or event limits.
- Review event and season reward panels after every major update.
- Use Market sales or Supply Requests only after checking trade status and the live exchange cost.
What the current evidence can and cannot establish
The strongest numerical information available for this topic is the Global-client launcher version 27 guide read October 9, 2026 and updated October 11: 62 Expert’s, 57 Artisan’s and 28 Artisan’s Ultimate stones from achievements per character. Its Expedition comparison and advice to claim achievements early are guide-specific analysis. The item database and wiki support broad Common-stone source categories, while the launch-client fan guide supports the separate Season Shop and Arena chest claims for version 2.0.5.0.
None of those figures should be treated as a permanent, region-independent drop table. A patch can alter reward quantities, an event can close, and a regional client can expose different activities. When the current client conflicts with an older guide, follow the in-game recipe, reward preview and item tooltip, and use the guide figures only as historical context.
