Microsoft Pluton is security hardware integrated into a computer’s processor or system-on-chip (SoC). It can provide TPM 2.0 functions, but not every Pluton-capable PC enables it or uses it as its TPM. Microsoft’s current processor-family list includes selected AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm platforms; check the exact PC model and its configuration before assuming Pluton is active.
What Microsoft Pluton is designed to do
Microsoft describes Pluton as a secure crypto-processor built into the CPU or SoC, combining an integrated secure subsystem with Microsoft-authored software. Its intended roles include providing a hardware root of trust, secure identity and attestation, and cryptographic services. Microsoft says these functions are designed to protect credentials, identities, personal data, and encryption keys, including against attempts to extract secrets from a computer in an attacker’s physical possession. These are vendor-described design goals and capabilities, not proof that a Pluton-equipped device cannot be compromised.
Because Pluton is integrated into the processor or SoC, it is not a standalone chip, accessory, download, or utility that can be added to an incompatible PC. Microsoft says it can provide TPM functionality as well as security functions beyond the TPM 2.0 specification. Firmware and operating-system capabilities can also be delivered over time through Windows Update. Microsoft’s Pluton security processor overview describes its architecture and intended functions.
Pluton’s role as a TPM depends on the PC
When an OEM configures Pluton to act as the TPM, it supports TPM 2.0 and Windows features that rely on a TPM, including BitLocker, Windows Hello, and System Guard. But an OEM can configure Pluton for other security functions or ship a PC with it turned off. Microsoft described those configuration choices in its January 2022 Pluton announcement.

- 【Model Support】Each security module is tested before it leaves the factory and is 100% perfectly works well. Therefore, Please confirm that your motherboard supports TPM2.0 technology.
There is an important newer qualification: Microsoft says that, beginning with 2026 silicon, Pluton no longer serves as the TPM on AMD and Qualcomm platforms. In those systems, the presence of Pluton does not establish that it is the PC’s TPM. Check the exact model’s OEM documentation and Windows security settings to establish what hardware is enabled and which TPM Windows uses. Microsoft’s Pluton-as-TPM page documents this change.
Microsoft also said in 2024 that Pluton would be enabled by default on all Copilot+ PCs. That statement concerns that product category and does not establish the configuration of every Pluton-capable computer. For a specific device, its model-level documentation takes precedence over assumptions based on a processor family or product label. Microsoft’s 2024 Copilot+ PC announcement provides that context.

- 【Wide Compatibility – Gigabyte & ASUS】 Specifically designed for Gigabyte and ASUS desktop motherboards with a 20-1 pin (2x10 / GA 20-1) 2.54mm pitch LPC TPM header. Ideal for upgrading to TPM 2.0 on DDR4 systems. (Note: NOT compatible with 12-pin, 2x6, or 14-pin headers).
- 【Windows 11 Readiness】 An essential hardware upgrade to meet Windows 11 security requirements. Ensure your system stays secure and up-to-date with a dedicated hardware TPM 2.0 module without replacing your entire motherboard or CPU.
- 【Advanced Security & Encryption】 Powered by the standalone Infineon SLB9665 encryption processor. This module securely stores cryptographic keys for software like Windows BitLocker, providing a robust layer of hardware-based security for your data.
- 【Platform Limits – No Laptops】 Optimized for Desktop motherboards from the DDR4 era (X99 series and newer). Not compatible with laptops or legacy DDR3 systems. Please verify your motherboard's header layout (2x10 pins) before ordering.
- 【Easy Setup & BIOS Note】 Simple plug-and-play installation takes only minutes with no tools required. IMPORTANT: After installation, you MUST enable "Security Device Support" or "Intel PTT / AMD fTPM" in your BIOS settings for Windows to recognize the module.
Which processor families Microsoft currently lists
Microsoft Learn lists the following processor families as Pluton-capable for Windows 11 devices:
| Platform maker | Processor families listed |
|---|---|
| AMD | Ryzen 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000, and Ryzen AI Series |
| Intel | Core Ultra 200V, Ultra Series 3, and Series 3 |
| Qualcomm | Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon X Series |
This is a family-level availability list, not confirmation that every computer using one of these processors enables Pluton or uses it as its TPM. Microsoft’s list is on its Pluton security processor page.

How to check whether a particular PC has and uses Pluton
- Identify the exact PC model and processor. Use the computer’s system information or its OEM support page. Compare the processor family with Microsoft’s current Pluton list; a family match establishes capability, not the configuration of that model.
- Check the OEM’s documentation for that exact configuration. Look for whether Pluton is enabled, what security role it performs, and whether it serves as the TPM. If the documentation is unclear, ask the PC maker rather than inferring behavior from the processor name.
- Confirm the TPM Windows exposes. In Windows, open Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Device security and review the security processor information. You can also press Win + R, enter tpm.msc, and check the TPM status and specification version. These checks help identify the TPM Windows sees, but may not by themselves identify its manufacturer or prove Pluton’s other functions are active.
- Account for the platform generation. For AMD and Qualcomm systems built on 2026 silicon, do not assume Pluton is the TPM: Microsoft says it no longer serves that role on those platforms. Consult the PC maker’s current firmware and support documentation.
- Check Windows 11 and OEM support separately. Pluton capability is not a substitute for confirming that the full PC model supports Windows 11 and has current OEM firmware and driver support.
What Pluton’s launch examples do—and do not—show
Microsoft’s January 2022 launch examples included the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 with AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 processors. These are historical examples, not evidence that every configuration of those models enabled Pluton or that they represent current availability. Lenovo’s January 2022 announcement describes the systems.
In February 2022, Microsoft identified the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s, built with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, as the first ARM Windows platform built on Pluton architecture. That launch detail also should not be treated as confirmation of the settings on every specific unit. Microsoft’s X13s announcement provides the historical context.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Independent TPM Processor: The remote card encryption security module uses an independent TPM encryption processor, which is a daughter board connected to the main board.
- High Security: The TPM securely stores an encryption key that can be created using encryption software, without which the content on the user's PC remains encrypted and protected from unauthorized access.
- PC Architecture: TPM module system components adopts a standard PC architecture and reserves a certain amount of memory for the system, so the actual memory size will be smaller than the specified amount.
- Scope of Application: TPM modules are suitable for GIGABYTE for 11 motherboards. Some motherboards require a TPM module inserted or an update to the latest BIOS to enable the TPM option.
- Easy to Use: 12Pin remote card encryption security module is easy to use, no complicated procedures are required, and it can be used immediately after installation.

What Pluton does not establish on its own
- A processor family’s appearance on Microsoft’s list does not prove a given PC model enables Pluton.
- Pluton’s presence does not, by itself, show that it acts as the TPM; this distinction is especially important for AMD and Qualcomm systems built on 2026 silicon.
- Microsoft’s descriptions of security functions are not an independent measurement of how much Pluton reduces risk. The cited official material provides no Pluton-specific independently measured security-improvement statistic.
- A Pluton label does not replace checking the PC’s model-specific firmware, Windows support, and exposed security features.
