Our verdict on Xlight FTP Server

Xlight FTP Server is Windows-based software for hosting FTP, FTPS, and optional SFTP file transfers. It is aimed at individuals and organizations that need controlled file exchange, directory-backed authentication, virtual servers, user isolation, and operational logging. Its feature set covers FTP sessions, errors, transfers, and Syslog, along with bandwidth controls, access controls, and email event notifications. The category specifications list support for up to 50 concurrent connections.

Pricing follows a freemium model with a clear one-time license structure. The Personal Edition is free for personal use. Standard Edition costs $39.95 one-time and adds SSL support, virtual servers, and hierarchy virtual paths. Professional Edition costs $129.95 one-time and adds unlimited online users, GUI-based remote administration, and ODBC, LDAP, and Active Directory support. SFTP is available through a $60 one-time add-on, or through bundles priced at $99.95 for Standard Edition + SFTP and $189.95 for Professional Edition + SFTP. A 30-day free trial is also available.

Directory and logging integrations are the main reasons to consider Xlight over a basic FTP daemon. Active Directory, LDAP, and ODBC authentication can connect account management to existing environments, while Syslog support and email notifications add operational visibility. Multiple virtual servers, hierarchy virtual paths, user isolation, and transfer controls suit administrators managing distinct access rules on one Windows host. Administration is GUI-based, so teams specifically seeking a browser-based management workflow should consider another product. Xlight fits buyers who want Windows-focused FTP or FTPS at a one-time price; choose a different option if SFTP must be included without an additional license or if personal-use restrictions do not fit the deployment.
