Regex Tester

Type a pattern and some test text and every match is listed with its position and capture groups, updating as you edit. Flags work as in JavaScript: g (all matches), i (ignore case), m (multi-line ^ and $), s (dot matches newlines), u (Unicode) and y (sticky).

Add a replacement to preview a find-and-replace. $1, $2 and $<name> insert captured groups, exactly as String.prototype.replace does, and without the g flag only the first match is replaced.

The tool uses your browser's own JavaScript regex engine, so what works here works in Node.js and front-end code. Other flavours (PCRE, Python, .NET) are mostly compatible but differ in some advanced features such as lookbehind support and possessive quantifiers.
