Our verdict on Rootly

Rootly is an incident management platform for engineering, SRE, DevOps, and operations teams. It brings incident declaration, triage, lifecycle tracking, alert routing, on-call scheduling, escalation policies, runbooks, stakeholder communications, status pages, retrospectives, and analytics into one system. Teams can work through the web application, Slack, Microsoft Teams, iOS, Android, API, and integrations with monitoring, ticketing, collaboration, and infrastructure tools. Its focus is structured response workflows rather than a narrow alerting-only experience.

Pricing is split across Incident Response and On-Call products. Incident Response Essentials costs $20 per user per month when billed monthly and includes Response with Slack, AI chat, AI similar incidents, an AI scribe meeting bot, retrospectives, and a status page. On-Call Essentials also costs $20 per user per month when billed monthly, adding alert grouping and noise reduction, alert routes, live call routing, schedules, escalation policies, shadow rotations, and holiday calendars and PTO. Enterprise tiers add controls such as custom forms, private incidents, audit logs, dynamic escalation paths, unlimited schedules and escalation policies, and custom retention and session timeout. Enterprise pricing uses contact sales, and the typical trial period is two weeks.

Rootly fits teams that need incident management connected to collaboration and operational tooling. Integrations include Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Jira, Datadog, Sentry, AWS CloudWatch, AWS SNS, GitHub, Linear, Notion, Zoom, Google Meet, and ServiceNow. AI SRE adds probable root-cause identification, alert and change correlation, impact analysis, suggested remediation steps and pull requests, alert-noise suppression, and API and MCP access. Teams seeking a broad response platform should consider Rootly; organizations wanting a single lower-cost module or a permanent free plan should look elsewhere.
