Our verdict on OpsKnight

OpsKnight is a self-hosted incident-management product for engineering and operations teams that run their own infrastructure. It brings incident creation, triage, assignment, acknowledgement, snoozing, suppression, and resolution into one system, alongside on-call scheduling, paging, escalation policies, status communication, and postmortems. Its web, iOS, and Android access supports teams that want a pager without moving incident data to a hosted SaaS service. Docker Compose and Helm deployments make it suitable for organizations already operating containerized infrastructure, particularly those using PostgreSQL.

The strongest fit is its breadth across the incident lifecycle. Timezone-aware schedules support rotation layers and temporary overrides, while ordered escalation policies can target users, teams, and on-call schedules. Alerts can arrive through monitoring integrations and webhooks, with deduplication helping reduce repeated notifications. Paging covers email, SMS, push, Slack, WhatsApp, and webhooks. Slack ChatOps adds war rooms, interactive incident actions, and slash commands, while the customer-facing status page supports service health, incidents, maintenance, subscriptions, feeds, and webhooks. Integrations include Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Sentry, Prometheus Alertmanager, Grafana Alerting, AWS CloudWatch and SNS, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jira Cloud, and PagerDuty Events API v2.

OpsKnight also covers the follow-up work that often gets separated from response. Postmortems include timelines, impact details, lessons learned, and corrective action items, giving teams a defined place to record what happened and what should change. The trade-off is operational ownership: deployment, upgrades, availability, and supporting services remain part of the team's responsibility. The documented Community release also excludes native voice calling, and the product is not a fit for organizations seeking a vendor-hosted cloud service. Choose OpsKnight when self-hosting and open-source control matter more than managed operations; choose another product when a hosted service or voice paging is essential.
