Moto G7 Supra: At First Glance

Gone are the days when Motorola was a leading icon of the pop culture. Their trademark flip phones were one of the most sought-after smartphones because of how sleek and stylish they were.

The brand’s recent smartphones – the G-series in particular – have shown how much they’ve evolved in terms of aesthetics. Being a product of the G-series, the Moto G7 Supra is a captivating smartphone.

The Moto G7 Supra is not only attractive, but its spec sheet is also good enough to grab the attention of a budget-conscious user. With that being said, let’s get into the details of the smartphone.

Moto G7 Supra: Design, Dimension & Weight

Don’t get me wrong, it is easy to get attracted to flagships like the iPhone 12 Pro or the Google Pixel 5. After all, these smartphones usually feature remarkable designs.

However, all of these flagship smartphones usually have high price tags. This is one of the reasons the Moto G7 Supra is impressive.

Despite how attractive and thoughtfully designed the smartphone looks, its price tag is even more attractive. By this, I mean you will be amazed by how affordable the Moto G7 Supra is after taking a good look at it.

It seems as though Motorola has found a way to be known as a leading icon for another thing in the smartphone industry. Their G-series smartphones and this Moto G7 Supra being reviewed have been leading examples of how attractive budget smartphones can be.

Even with its large size, the Moto G7 Supra is undeniably attractive. To give more details of its dimensions, the Moto G7 Supra measures 148.7 x 71.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs 168 g.

You might be concerned about the weight of the smartphone, but holding the smartphone will make you feel less bothered about its large size.

Unlike previous Motorola smartphones, the Moto G7 Supra feels very sturdy.

While it feels very rigid, the Moto G7 Supra is comfortable to hold. You can even use the smartphone with one hand.

Although the smartphone’s large display makes one-handed mode seem impossible. Thanks to its slim bezels, you can use the smartphone with one hand – especially if you have large hands.

The smartphone’s bezels are so slim that you will barely notice them. The top bezel is slim thanks to the wide notch design that houses the front camera, earpiece, and speaker grille.

Meanwhile, the bottom bezel does not feature any physical button or keys. Instead, they have been designed as on-screen keys.

You will only see the Motorola branding on the bottom bezel.

Turn the Moto G7 Supra over to its back and you will be amazed by Motorola’s classy design pattern. Unlike the common horizontal or vertical notch arrangement, the Moto G7 Supra features a circular camera and LED flash setup.

Below the circular camera bump, you will see the fingerprint sensor with the Motorola logo on it.

Even with the simpler design, the back of the Moto G7 Supra is attractive. Its shiny polymer plastic makes the smartphone look premium.

However, this back cover retains a lot of fingerprints and stains.

Moving on, the right side of the Moto G7 Supra features the volume rocker and power button while the left side houses the SIM card tray. At its bottom, you’ll find the USB-C charging port and mic.

The top of the Moto G7 Supra features the headphone jack and another mic.

Overall, the design of the Moto G7 Supra is elegant and its build quality is superb. Hence, the smartphone deserves an eight in this review.

Moto G7 Supra: Display Features

The Moto G7 Supra comes with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display.

This display has an HD+ resolution of 1512 x 720 pixels. As a result, the density of the Moto G7 Supra’s display is so good that texts and icons don’t look vague.

As you would expect of a display that accommodates 403 pixels per inch. The Moto G7 Supra’s display offers vivid and rich colors.

However, sunlight legibility is a bit on the average side for an LCD screen. Nonetheless, it has a higher maximum brightness than some of its G series siblings like the Moto G7 Plus.

Thanks to its thin bezels, the display looks like it stretches from one end to another. This explains its 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

Consequently, the viewing experience on the Moto G7 Supra is similar to a cinematic one. The wide area of the screen makes watching movies and playing games more pleasurable.

This display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass to prevent scratches and cracks on the screen. Overall, the Moto G7 Supra scores an eight in this review for its beautiful and large display.

Moto G7 Supra: Camera Features

The Moto G7 Supra features a 13 MP camera and an 8 MP front camera.

First things first, the rear camera captures sharp and detailed pictures with little digital noise. To the untrained eye, the digital noise will be barely visible.

Hence, the minor digital noise is not really an issue.

However, the dynamic range of this camera is not so impressive. As a result, you tend to get pictures that look overexposed.

Fortunately, the HDR mode feature helps to slightly make up for the camera’s bad dynamic range. However, the HDR mode doesn’t help the camera’s poor dynamic range in dark scenes or at night.

At night, the poor dynamic range will further limit the capabilities of the Moto G7 Supra’s camera. Even with adequate lighting, the image colors still looked a bit washed out despite its good amount of detail.

In bright scenes, though colors are as accurate as possible.

The same is the case for the front camera. In well-lit environments, it offers decent selfies with good details.

However, images appear soft in dark scenes.

Nonetheless, both cameras perform excellently well for the price of the smartphone. Therefore, the Moto G7 Supra scores an eight in this review.

Moto G7 Supra: Battery Life and Talk Time

Motorola equipped the Moto G7 Supra with a 3,000 mAh battery.

The 3,000 mAh battery was powerful enough to power the Moto G7 Supra through almost a day of activities. However, battery runtime may vary depending on individual usage.

For example, you might not get as much battery life as another person would if you tend to play games for a long time on the smartphone. Likewise, long browsing sessions will also run down the battery faster.

On average, the Moto G7 Supra’s battery offers up to 40 hours of talk time.

The Moto G7 Supra comes with fast charging features to help charge your battery faster when it is low on power.

In conclusion, the Moto G7 Supra scores a seven in this review for its good battery life.

Moto G7 Supra: Storage Options & Performance

The Moto G7 Supra comes with 32 GB internal storage.

This storage is large enough to store your files, pictures, and documents. However, don’t be surprised if you can’t fully access the entire 32 GB.

Reasons for this include the pre-installed system apps the smartphone comes with. Also, the smartphone’s operating system makes use of a part of the internal storage.

As a result, you will find only about 22 GB left for your file storage. Nonetheless, the 22 GB of space is still sufficient for file storage.

However, if you still need to expand your storage, you can do so via an SD card of up to 512 GB.

Hence, the Moto G7 Supra scores a nine in this review for its amazing storage options.

Moto G7 Supra: Security Features & Sensors

Have you ever wondered how smartphones have come to gain more computing power over the years? The impressive evolvement of phones from traditional communication devices to modern little computers was unimaginable some years back.

Smartphones have now become more than just communication devices thanks to sensors. These tiny components are the major reason behind modern smartphones’ impressive computational power.

Sensors are tiny devices used in smartphones to detect various actions of users in relation to their environments. They make our smartphone more intelligent.

As you would expect, the Moto G7 Supra is equipped with some sensors. These sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light, e-compass, gyroscope, magnetometer, proximity, and sensor hub.

To give more detail about a few of these sensors, the accelerometer detects the orientation of the smartphone. Apps like Asphalt Nitro use this sensor to drift during car races.

In addition, the ambient light sensor measures the level of light around the smartphone. The smartphone uses this sensor to adjust the brightness level of the display according to its environment.

In terms of security, the Moto G7 Supra comes with a fingerprint sensor. You can use the fingerprint sensor for biometric verification to restrict unauthorized access.

The phone also comes with a facial recognition feature for security.

Overall, the Moto G7 Supra scores an eight in this review for its good collection of sensors.
