Moto E5 Go: At First Glance

Motorola smartphones have always had a simple and unique design. The Moto E5 Go maintains this standard.

However, this smartphone’s design has been improved compared to its predecessor. Even with its large display, the Moto E5 Go has reduced top and bottom bezels.

As a result, the Moto E5 Go is so attractive that it doesn’t look like a budget smartphone. Looking at this smartphone from a distance, you will be convinced it’s not a budget smartphone.

Moto E5 Go: Design, Dimension, and Weight

Like most modern smartphones, the Moto E5 Go has a slim and tall build despite having a large screen. Hence, this smartphone is very comfortable to hold.

Moreover, this smartphone’s design has improved. As I mentioned in the previous section, the top and bottom bezels have been reduced significantly.

The reduction of these bezels has been made possible by the re-positioning of the fingerprint sensor. Motorola has moved the fingerprint sensor to the back of the device.

These changes have improved the overall look of the Moto E5 Go. In fact, this smartphone doesn’t look like a budget smartphone.

One of the few noticeable parts of the device that makes it look like a budget device is its plastic back covering. Nonetheless, the Moto E5 Go doesn’t feel cheap like most budget smartphones.

Instead of twisting easily or creaking on every little force exerted on it, the Moto E5 Go’s matte-finished covering feels nice and sturdy.

In terms of size and dimension, the Moto E5 Go is not light but not too heavy either. It weighs 150 g and measures 151 x 74 x 8.8 mm.

As expected, the Moto E5 Go comes with some physical details around its body. The volume rocker and power button are positioned together on the right side.

Meanwhile, there’s a 3.5 mm headphone jack on top of the phone.

As usual, Motorola offers this device in two color variants. You can either get the gray or gold model.

In conclusion, Motorola has done a great job with the design of this smartphone. Therefore, it scores an eight in this review.

Moto E5 Go: Display Features

Motorola equipped the Moto E5 Go with a 5.7-inch display. This smartphone’s display is slightly larger than that of many other smartphones in its price range.

Fortunately, this smartphone’s large display size doesn’t affect how beautifully well it displays colors. This device has a 720 x 1440 screen resolution.

Moreover, the Moto E5 Go’s display has been built with IPS technology. Hence, you can comfortably use this smartphone outdoors.

Aside from the brightness that shifts slightly, viewing from unusual angles – even when you are outdoors – is very possible.

Furthermore, this smartphone’s display is protected with Gorilla Glass. As a result, swiping or pinching on this device is smooth.

Finally, thanks to its premium glass covering, the Moto E5 Go’s display doesn’t retain fingerprints.

Overall, the Moto E5 Go scores a seven in this review for its excellent display.

Moto E5 Go: Camera Features

The Moto E5 Go’s camera specification is just what you would expect in a smartphone of its price range. It comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.

The rear camera has an aperture of f/2 and phase-detect autofocus. This rear camera is capable of shooting a 1080p video at a rate of 30 FPS.

In use, the main rear camera offers decent shots but tends to lack accuracy in extremely bright environments. Likewise, the front camera loses accuracy in extremely bright environments.

To be specific, when this smartphone’s cameras are used in bright environments, the bright areas outshine every other detail. Additionally, the Moto E5 Go also doesn’t perform well in very dark environments.

Despite the aforementioned limitations, the Moto E5 Go produces sharp images. In fact, its camera is one of the best you will see in a budget smartphone of its price range.

Therefore, the Moto E5 Go scores a seven in this review.

Moto E5 Go: Battery Life and Talk Time

The Moto E5 Go features a 4000 mAh battery. This battery contributes to the smartphone’s slightly heavier weight.

On a battery test, the Moto E5 Go lasted for 12 hours 35 minutes. Although this battery performance is not too bad, it is slightly disappointing when you compare it with the Xiaomi Redmi 6 that features a 3000 mAh battery.

It lasted just an hour longer than the Xiaomi Redmi 6 that lasted 11 hours 35 minutes – despite Xiaomi Redmi 6 featuring a smaller battery.

Nonetheless, the Moto E5 Go’s battery is good. You wouldn’t have any problem with this smartphone’s battery in your everyday usage.

However, how long this device lasts totally depends on your usage. Using the internet or playing games for a long time can shorten the battery life faster.

In conclusion, the Moto E5 Go scores a seven in this review for its good battery life.

Moto E5 Go: Storage Options and Performance

The Moto E5 Go comes with 16 GB of internal storage.

Though this storage space feels large enough for basic file storage, it is not as sufficient as it seems. Moreover, the smartphone’s Operating System uses a portion of the internal storage leaving you with about 9 GB of free space for personal storage.

Hence, for someone who stores lots of videos, pictures, large apps, and games, this storage space will become insufficient quickly.

To compensate for its limited storage capacity, Moto E5 Go supports an external storage expansion like many other smartphones. You can expand this smartphone’s storage with a 256 GB capacity microSD card.

Finally, I rate the Moto E5 Go six for its below-average storage.

Moto E5 Go: Security Features and Sensors

Like many modern smartphones, the Moto E5 Go has a good selection of sensors.

These sensors are sensing devices that are pre-installed on the phone for the purpose of gathering data for different purposes. Most times, these sensors work in conjunction with a mobile app.

To offer some details, the Moto E5 Go features an accelerometer that helps to detect the orientation of the phone. The accelerometer sensor helps to measure the directional movement of the Moto E5 Go.

Additionally, the Moto E5 Go features a light sensor that detects data about lighting levels in the environment to help the display adapt accordingly.

The Moto E5 Go also comes with a fingerprint sensor that it uses for biometric verification. This sensor offers additional security – instead of signing into your phone with a PIN, you can sign in with your finger.

Overall, the Moto E5 Go scores a seven in this review for its security feature and sensors.
