What was the Microsoft Edge Games panel?
The Games menu was an item in Microsoft Edge’s browser sidebar, announced on September 1, 2022. Clicking the Games icon opened a selection of free-to-play casual and arcade titles, intended for a quick break without switching away from Edge. Microsoft described it as a menu, not a separate game launcher or a panel over a PC game. Microsoft’s announcement listed Games alongside sidebar items such as Search, Discover, tools, Office, and Outlook.
The announcement did not specify a game count or provide enough detail to establish the menu’s exact layout. It called the experience a games menu accessed through a sidebar icon; claims about particular tiles, colors, or screen arrangements go beyond the published description.
How did you open it?
In the 2022 announcement, users opened the Edge sidebar and selected its Games icon. Microsoft said the sidebar could be customized with a plus button to add or remove features, and hidden with a button at the bottom. The company described availability for users in English markets in the latest Edge version at that time. Those are historical instructions and availability details, not confirmation that the menu or those controls remain in current Edge releases.

Is the Games sidebar still available?
Microsoft Support now says the Edge sidebar app list is being retired gradually, starting with Microsoft account users. New apps can no longer be added, and previously pinned apps will be removed in a future update. The support article says removal will roll out across upcoming Edge updates, but gives no confirmed date. It does not specifically name the Games menu, identify affected versions or markets, or confirm whether Games remains available in current Edge releases. Edge Games menu vs. Edge Game Assist
These are different features. The 2022 Games menu lived in the browser sidebar and offered casual games. Game Assist is a browser overlay for PC gaming, opened through Xbox Game Bar. Microsoft describes it as a special version of Edge that can sit above a game for browsing, video, guides, and game-aware tips.

Game Assist can share browser data with desktop Edge and lets users pin a page or video above a game. Microsoft says browser access works with any PC game, while game-aware tips are tied to enhanced games. Details and compatibility requirements are in Microsoft’s Game Assist FAQs.
Game Assist requirements and controls
Microsoft’s FAQ lists Edge 137 or later, Windows 11 Home, Education, or Pro, and Windows 11 version 22H2 or later with current updates as the included configuration. It also says Game Assist can be installed on any Windows 11 edition through Edge settings. These requirements apply to Game Assist, not the older sidebar Games menu. Microsoft says the feature is optimized for keyboard and mouse and that it is still refining controller use.
