  • Its hinge doesn’t support 360 degrees rotation

HP Chromebook 11 G5: At First Glance

This Chromebook is an affordable laptop. It is a compact and lightweight laptop powered by Chrome OS.

Moreover, it has some impressive features considering that it is one of the cheapest Chromebooks available in the market. The fact that this Chromebook is still one of the biggest sellers since its release in August 2016 says a lot about it.

Furthermore, you can run a lot of applications on HP Chromebook 11 G5. Unfortunately, Chrome OS may not support Windows programs that most of us have been used to.

However, there are so many applications on the Google Play Store.

Additionally, Google has created office apps similar to Microsoft Office. For example, you can use free Google Sheets in place of Microsoft Excel and free Google Docs intead of Microsoft Word.

However, it offers some other exciting advantages that you might not find in Windows laptops of the same price range.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Design, Dimension and Weight

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 is a complete departure from the Chromebook 11 in terms of design. It abandoned the colorful lines as well as the white lid build, which had a LED light on it.

HP traded a toy-like appearance for a more professional look in its design.

Moreover, its design aligns with most of the past HP laptops released in the mid-range segment. Most HP laptops you will find in this range feature the same design and color scheme used on the HP Chromebook 11 G5.

Furthermore, HP Chromebook 11 G5 is made out of plastic material with the HP logo embedded on the lid. However, a silver material surrounds the keyboard and touchpad.

It has a measurement of 286 x 205 x 18.4 mm and a weight of 1140 g. The laptop’s simple design contributes to its moderate sleekness.

However, despite its compactness, it feels a bit sturdy, which is good for durability. If you are a bit clumsy, you could worry less because of its durability.

The port selection is quite good as well. It has 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one on the left and one on the right. Additionally, it also has one headphone jack, 1 HDMI v1.4, and a multi-format media card reader positioned on the left side.

Finally, its full size textured island-style keyboard is good for long typing sessions. It also has a clickpad with an image sensor, which enables multi-touch gestures.

The downside, however, is that the hinge doesn’t support a 360 degrees rotation. In this HP Chromebook 11 G5 design review, it scores an eight because of its great design.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Processor (CPU) Performance

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 has a dual-core Intel Celeron N3060 processor with a base frequency of 1.060Ghz and a 2MB cache. It performs well with everyday tasks such as browsing, writing, and editing documents.

It might not be the fastest Chromebook available, but it is not the slowest either. HP Chromebook 11 G5 performs better than its predecessors when it comes to loading time and overall responsiveness.

However, the laptop is efficient enough for its range. It packs a fair amount of power, considering its price.

Furthermore, on a performance test, it performed light operations smoothly without any interruption whatsoever. It handles little tasks easily but not as well as it does when you push it to its limits.

Finally, in my HP Chromebook 11 G5 CPU review, it scores an eight. The reason being that Its CPU performance is moderate for its price, and it doesn’t get too hot.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Memory (RAM) Performance

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 features up to 4GB of LPDDR3-1600 (Single or Dual channel). This RAM feature is sufficient enough to perform small tasks.

However, it might not be a suitable laptop for power users. It has sufficient RAM for daily web browsing, word processing, and many other essential tasks.

Also, the HP Chromebook 11 G5 can be considered a good mid-range performer. It is on par with many Chromebooks in terms of its RAM performance.

Furthermore, it is capable of multitasking between numerous browser tabs and 6-7 opened apps. On a RAM performance test, it performed well with a video streaming and several browser tabs opened.

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 scores an 8 in this review because it multitasks well. It performs just fine with operations expected of a laptop of its range.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Storage Options and Performance

HP equipped Chromebook 11 G5 with 16 GB-32 GB eMMc storage. However, you also have access to up to 100 GB of Google Drive storage.

The laptop allows users to work with files on the cloud (via Google Drive). The added advantage of this feature is that you might not need to get a large local hard disk.

However, if you enable offline access, you will access your files without an internet connection.

HP Chromebook 11 G5 is one of the least expensive Chromebooks that offers this level of storage options.

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 scores an 8 in this storage review because of its good storage options.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Graphics Card Performance

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 features an integrated Intel HD Graphics 400 with a base frequency of 320 MHz. It, however, has a boost frequency of 600 MHz.

On a graphics card performance test, the HP Chromebook 11 G5 perfectly ran non-demanding games. Its frame rate was good with small games but wasn’t very good with games like The Witcher 3.

However, for a Chromebook as cheap as this laptop, it is no surprise that it’s not the perfect gaming laptop. Most Chromebooks are more useful for simple daily computing tasks.

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 is not the best gaming laptop, but it does well in general gaming. It also streams HD content very well without lagging in performance.

It scored a 7 for graphics features and performance because of its inability to run graphics-intensive games efficiently.

HP Chromebook 11 G5: Battery Life and Performance

The laptop comes with a 2-cell 43.7 WHr Polymer battery that delivers a perfect standby time. You could leave it on for a week and still find only a single-digit drop in battery percentage.

Furthermore, according to a test carried out by gadgets.ndtv.com, the HP Chromebook 11 G5 can run for up to 12 hours before you need to recharge it. This is possible due to its energy-efficient processor and fanless design.

Its battery life is so good that you could forget to charge the laptop during a day of work. The laptop’s battery life enhances its mobile usage and portability.

With the laptop’s battery being its most remarkable feature, it scores a 9 in this review.
