To stop ChatGPT or another AI assistant from accessing Spotify, revoke the authorization at Spotify and disconnect the account in the assistant. In Spotify, sign in, open the Apps page, find the assistant, and select Remove Access. Then open ChatGPT and go to Settings > Apps (or Plugins, depending on the interface), open the connected Spotify account’s options menu, and choose Disconnect.
Those controls do different jobs: Spotify’s setting removes the provider authorization, while ChatGPT’s setting stops that assistant from using the connection going forward. Changing an approval option to Always ask or Deny only changes prompts; it does not revoke Spotify’s authorization. Existing chats, files, and memories are separate and are not automatically deleted when you disconnect.
How do I stop ChatGPT from accessing my Spotify?
Use both account controls in sequence. Removing the app from Spotify is the authoritative revocation; disconnecting it in ChatGPT cleans up the assistant-side connection and prevents future use through that account.

- Sign in to Spotify and open your account’s Apps page.
- Locate ChatGPT, the AI assistant, or another connected app you no longer trust.
- Select Remove Access for that app and confirm if Spotify asks.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings.
- Choose Apps or Plugins; the label can vary with the current ChatGPT interface.
- Find the connected Spotify account, open its three-dot or options menu, and select Disconnect.
Removing the authorization at Spotify first means the provider will no longer honor the old permission, even if an assistant-side listing takes time to update. Disconnecting in ChatGPT then removes the assistant’s active link. If you connected Spotify to a different assistant, use that provider’s account-disconnect control as well; Spotify’s Apps page remains the backstop.

What is the difference between removing access and disconnecting?
They operate on opposite sides of the integration. Spotify’s control changes the authorization held by the service provider, while ChatGPT’s control changes whether ChatGPT can use an existing connection.

OpenAI’s guidance distinguishes permission prompts from disconnection: an approval setting is not an account unlink. If your goal is to end access rather than add friction, perform the provider-side removal and the assistant-side disconnect.
How do I remove an AI app from Spotify’s Apps page?
Spotify’s support instruction is short: log in to the Apps page and click Remove Access on any app. The following details help you identify the right entry and verify that you removed the intended connection.
Find the connected assistant
Use the Spotify account that you connected during the assistant’s setup. The Apps page lists third-party applications, services, and devices that have been linked to that account. An AI assistant may appear under its product name rather than under a generic label such as “AI.” Voice-assistant integrations can also be listed there.
Remove the authorization
Select Remove Access next to the relevant entry. If several entries look related, remove only the one you recognize unless you deliberately want to revoke every listed integration. Spotify says a third-party app cannot link to your account without your explicit permission, so an unfamiliar entry deserves investigation rather than an assumption that it is part of ChatGPT.
Check for disappearance or a changed status
Refresh the Apps page after removal. The entry may disappear or show that access is no longer active. Keep the account page open until you have completed the ChatGPT-side disconnect, because the two settings are maintained by different systems.

How do I disconnect Spotify inside ChatGPT?
ChatGPT’s menu names can change, but the task is consistent: open the connected app’s options and choose Disconnect.
- Open ChatGPT and select Settings from the account menu.
- Open Apps or, in interfaces that still use the older label, Plugins.
- Look for the connected Spotify account or Spotify integration.
- Open the three-dot menu or other options control for that connection.
- Select Disconnect and complete any confirmation dialog.
OpenAI describes this action as stopping future access through that account. It is useful even after you have removed Spotify authorization, because it prevents ChatGPT from continuing to present the connection as available and reduces the chance that you accidentally reconnect the wrong account later.
If the menu labels do not match
Do not treat a missing word such as “Plugins” as evidence that the account is still connected. Product interfaces are updated over time. Look for an area named Apps, Connected apps, or an account-integration list under Settings, then open the Spotify entry’s own options menu. If no Spotify entry appears, verify the Spotify Apps page anyway; provider-side revocation does not depend on the assistant interface being current.
What if I used another AI assistant instead of ChatGPT?
Disconnect the account in that assistant’s own settings and remove the same authorization from Spotify. The exact menu names differ by provider, but the two-sided process is the same: the assistant controls its local connection, while Spotify controls whether the app is authorized at all.
- Open the assistant’s account, privacy, or connected-services settings.
- Locate the Spotify integration and choose its disconnect, unlink, or remove option.
- Sign in to Spotify separately and remove the corresponding entry from Apps.
- Sign out of the assistant on shared devices after disconnecting.
Spotify’s account-side removal is the authoritative backstop because it removes the permission associated with the third-party app. This is an operational consequence of Spotify’s third-party-access model, not a claim that every assistant uses identical screens.
What could an AI assistant access through a Spotify connection?
Spotify’s privacy policy says connected third-party applications, services, and devices may receive User Data and Usage Data to provide the integration. The categories depend on the permissions granted and the function being used; the policy specifically includes voice assistants among the kinds of third-party connections that may be linked and managed under Apps.

A Spotify announcement describing the ChatGPT integration says the first time a user mentions Spotify, ChatGPT asks the user to connect an account. After an opt-in connection, the user can ask for songs, artists, albums, playlists, or podcast episodes. Those examples explain why the integration needs account and usage information, but they do not mean every connected assistant receives every possible Spotify data field.
Opt-in does not mean permanent
Spotify described the ChatGPT connection as opt-in and said users can connect or disconnect at any time. The permission is therefore a user decision that can be reversed from the account controls above. A prompt asking for approval before an individual action is not the same as the original OAuth authorization that lets the service access Spotify.
Will changing ChatGPT’s approval setting revoke Spotify access?
No. Choosing Always ask or Deny changes whether ChatGPT requests approval before using an already-connected account. OpenAI explicitly says these permission settings do not disconnect the account or change access in the source system.
Use those settings when you want to control the timing of actions while keeping the integration available. Use Remove Access at Spotify when you want to revoke the authorization, and use Disconnect in ChatGPT when you want the assistant to stop using that connection.
Does disconnecting Spotify delete old ChatGPT chats, files, or memories?
No. Disconnecting the integration stops future access through that account; it does not automatically delete existing or archived conversations, saved files, or memories in ChatGPT.
Review conversations
Open ChatGPT’s conversation controls and delete chats that contain Spotify-related prompts or results if you no longer want them retained. Archived conversations are still stored until you remove them through the relevant control, so check both active and archived areas.

Review uploaded files
If you uploaded playlists, exports, screenshots, or other Spotify-related material to ChatGPT, inspect the file-management area separately. Removing the Spotify connection does not remove a copy that was uploaded directly to a conversation or account.

ChatGPT memories are managed independently from connected apps. Look through memory settings for Spotify preferences or listening details and delete entries you do not want retained. Treat this as a separate cleanup task rather than part of the OAuth revocation.
How can I restore Spotify access later?
Unlinking is reversible, but access is not silently restored. Spotify’s developer documentation says unlinking removes all Spotify access permissions associated with the linked account; to regain access, you must complete the account-linking flow again.
- Confirm that the assistant still offers a Spotify integration.
- Start the connection flow from the assistant’s Apps or connected-services area.
- Sign in to the intended Spotify account, checking the account identity before approving.
- Review the permissions shown on the authorization screen.
- Approve only if the requested access matches what you need.
If you removed several Spotify integrations, you may need to relink each one individually. Reconnecting one assistant does not authorize a different app.

Work from the provider side outward, then refresh the assistant. A stale listing in ChatGPT does not prove that Spotify is still granting access, and a removed listing in ChatGPT does not prove that Spotify’s authorization was revoked.

- Return to Spotify’s Apps page and confirm the relevant app is no longer authorized.
- Sign out of ChatGPT, close other active sessions if your account offers that control, and sign back in.
- Open Settings > Apps/Plugins and check whether the Spotify entry remains.
- If it remains, use its options menu and select Disconnect again.
- Do not reconnect during testing; a new authorization would make the app appear active again.
If you cannot identify the entry on Spotify, review every connected app rather than relying only on the name displayed by ChatGPT. Spotify’s Apps page is the place to verify which third-party authorizations are currently associated with the account.

How available is the Spotify–ChatGPT integration?
Availability is regional and can change. Spotify’s 2025 announcement described initial English-language access across 145 countries. The announcement was updated on March 23, 2026 with additional languages and changes to podcast listening, so the options shown in your account may differ from the original rollout.
Spotify also said its integrations span more than 2,000 devices in a 2025 newsroom introduction. That figure describes Spotify’s wider integration ecosystem, not the number of AI assistants or a guarantee that every device supports the ChatGPT connection. The U.S. Spotify privacy policy identifies July 1, 2026 as its effective date; privacy-policy language and available controls can vary by jurisdiction.
A practical privacy checklist after you disconnect
- Provider revocation: Spotify’s Apps page no longer shows the assistant as authorized.
- Assistant disconnect: ChatGPT or the other assistant no longer lists an active Spotify account.
- Approval settings: You understand that Always ask and Deny are prompts or interface controls, not revocation.
- Stored content: You reviewed conversations, archives, files, and memories separately.
- Other assistants: You repeated the assistant-side disconnect anywhere else you linked the same Spotify account.
- Future relinking: You know that restoring access requires a new linking and authorization flow.
Completing all six checks closes both the live authorization path and the assistant’s local connection while addressing data that may already have been stored in ChatGPT.

Can I revoke Spotify access without opening ChatGPT?
Yes. Removing the app from Spotify’s account Apps page revokes the provider authorization, so it is the decisive step when you cannot sign in to ChatGPT or its settings are unavailable. You can disconnect the assistant later if you regain access, but do not wait to remove the Spotify-side authorization.
Why does Spotify ask me to authorize again after I removed an app?
Unlinking removes the permissions associated with that linked account. Any later connection is treated as a new authorization and requires you to complete the linking flow again, including signing in and approving the requested permissions.
Is the Spotify connection available in every country and language?
No single availability statement applies everywhere. Spotify initially described English-language access in 145 countries, then updated its announcement on March 23, 2026 with additional languages and podcast changes; the options shown for your account can therefore vary by location and date.
Does seeing a Spotify result in an old conversation mean the assistant still has live access?
