Method 1: Remove Followers from “Followers” List
The Instagram App for iPhone or Android offers the options to remove followers. The problem with this method is that the person can find you and Follow you again.
To stop a person from ever being able to follow you, use the steps in Remove a Follower Permanently by Blocking the Follower (navigates to the next section).
- Open the Instagram App for Android on your Phone.
- Then, at the bottom right of the App, tap your profile icon.
- When your Instagram profile page opens, tap Followers.
- Then, from your Followers list, locate the Follower you want to remove – beside the Follower, tap Remove. Instagram will request a confirmation.

Method 2: Remove a Follower Permanently by Blocking the Follower
If you remove a Follower from your Followers list, the person can still find and re-follow you. The best method to stop someone from ever following you is to Block the person. Here are the steps…
- Open the Instagram App for Android on your Phone.
- Then, at the bottom right of the App, tap your profile icon.
- At the top of your Instagram profile page, tap Followers.
- Then, locate the Follower you want to block and remove permanently and tap on the person’s Instagram name. The person’s Instagram profile will open.
- On the top right of the person’s profile, tap the menu icon (3 dots). Some options will be displayed.
- Finally, to remove followers on Instagram and prevent them from re-following you, from the displayed options, tap Block. The App will display a pop up confirmation window.
- At the bottom of the confirmation window, tap Block. The person will be removed from your Followers list and will never be able to find your profile again until you unblock the person.
Option 2: Remove Followers on Instagram from a PC (Instagram.com)
If you access Instagram.com from a PC or a mobile phone browser, there is no option to Remove a follower. The only option is to Block the Follower.
When you block someone on Instagram, the person will be removed from your Followers list and will not be able to re-follow you again until you unblock the person. Here are the steps…
- Open Instagram.com from a browser on your PC. Then, login with your Instagram account.
- At the top right corner of the page, click the profile icon.
- When your profile opens, click Followers. A list of all your Followers will be displayed.
- Locate the person you want to block and remove and click on the person’s Instagram name. The person’s profile will open.
- At the right of the person’s profile, tap the profile menu icon (3 lines). A pop up window will display some options.
- From the displayed options in the pop up window, click Block this user. Instagram will request a Block confirmation.
- Finally, to remove followers on Instagram and stop them re-following you, at the Block confirmation window, click Block.
