Short answer: X is the only one of these three services with a documented, viewer-side keyword mute. In X settings, add terms such as Modern Warfare 4, MW4, spoiler, leak, ending, and campaign to remove matching posts from your Home timeline and notifications for a chosen period. Reddit relies on spoiler labels rather than a personal keyword blacklist, while YouTube’s documented blocked-words feature is for creators moderating comments and live chat, not viewers hiding video titles or recommendations.
No filter is complete. Search results, images, euphemisms, misspellings, untagged Reddit posts, and notifications that omit your chosen words can still reveal plot details. The safest approach is to configure X before browsing, avoid likely spoiler communities and searches on Reddit, and actively retrain or limit YouTube recommendations.
What each platform can actually mute
The controls are different enough that treating Reddit, YouTube, and X as if they had the same spoiler filter leads to false confidence. X has a native viewer keyword mute. Reddit’s official tool is a spoiler-label system that hides a tagged post’s preview until you reveal it. YouTube’s documented blocked-word list belongs to channel owners and moderators.

Modern Warfare 4 is the title wording used on Activision’s support page dated October 16, 2026. You may also encounter abbreviations, hashtags, character names, mission names, or deliberately altered spellings. Build your terms around the ways people are likely to write the title, not just one exact phrase.

Mute Modern Warfare 4 spoilers on X
X offers the most direct protection for a reader. Its Help Center says muted items can include words, phrases, usernames, emojis, and hashtags. Matching is case-insensitive, and muting a word also mutes its hashtag form. You can decide whether the mute affects the Home timeline, notifications, or both, and you can set an expiration date.
Open the muted-words screen
The labels are the same on current iOS, Android, and desktop interfaces:
- Open Notifications.
- Tap or click the gear icon.
- Choose Muted.
- Choose Muted words.
- Select Add.
Add one term at a time. X’s current flow does not turn a comma-separated sentence into a reliable list, so save each entry before adding the next.
Use a practical first list
Start with broad terms before adding details that are likely to appear in plot discussions. A useful initial set is:

The broad words can hide unrelated posts. If your normal feed depends on campaign, story, or ending discussions about other games, begin with the title variants and add broad terms only for the period when you need maximum protection.
Choose where and how long to mute
After entering a term, select Home timeline, Notifications, or both. Where X offers an audience option, choose the scope that matches your risk: posts from everyone are more comprehensive, while a narrower audience can reduce unrelated filtering. Then select Forever, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days, and save.
For a launch weekend, 7 or 30 days is easier than remembering to remove a permanent rule. Use Forever only for terms you are comfortable keeping out of your feed indefinitely. Repeat the process for each term.
Add hashtag and naming variants when needed
X says muting a word also mutes its hashtag form, so a mute for MW4 should cover #MW4. A hashtag variant can still be useful when a phrase is unlikely to be recognized as the same word—for example, a community may use a compact tag or an alternate title abbreviation. Add known character or mission names later, after you see how discussion is being labeled. Do not add unverified names merely because they appear in a rumor; doing so can create a large, unnecessary blind spot.

Understand X’s limits before you browse
- Search is not filtered. X explicitly says, “You will still see these posts via search.” Do not search a muted term expecting the results page to remain clean.
- Some followed-account mobile notifications can still arrive. The Help Center notes that opted-in mobile notifications from followed accounts may appear even when they contain a muted term.
- Images are not semantically read by the mute. A spoiler image, screenshot, or thumbnail can appear if the accompanying text does not contain a muted word.
- Euphemisms and misspellings bypass exact wording. A post that uses initials, altered characters, or a nickname you did not add can pass through.
- Muting is not blocking. It suppresses matching posts in the selected locations; it does not remove an account’s content everywhere.
When you finish configuring X, test the setup without searching for the game. Ask a trusted person to post a harmless sentence containing one of your terms, or wait for ordinary traffic and confirm that the term is absent from the selected surfaces. Avoid deliberately opening a search result as a test.
Protect yourself from Reddit spoilers
Reddit’s official spoiler feature is a reveal barrier, not a personal keyword filter. Reddit describes spoiler tags as labels used to identify posts containing spoilers. A post marked with a spoiler tag has its thumbnail blurred and its preview hidden until you click it. Posters and moderators can apply the tag.
What Reddit tags automatically
Reddit says a title containing spoiler or spoilers is automatically tagged. The phrases no spoiler and no spoilers are not treated as spoiler labels, so do not assume that seeing those words means a post is safe. An untagged title can still disclose a major event, and a tagged post can still reveal information in a visible title or flairs depending on the community’s layout.

Use Reddit’s controls as a workflow
- Identify the communities where Modern Warfare 4 discussion is likely to appear.
- Read each community’s spoiler rule before opening posts. Some communities set their own spoiler windows, title conventions, or flair requirements.
- Use the community’s feed options to avoid it temporarily if you do not need to participate during the spoiler period.
- Do not open thumbnails, previews, comments, or profile pages from a community you are avoiding. A click can reveal the content even when the post was correctly tagged.
- Return after you are ready for spoilers and restore any communities or feeds you paused.
Because Reddit does not document a reader setting that removes arbitrary words from the home feed, “mute MW4” is not a native Reddit instruction you can follow. Browser extensions can add desktop text or title filtering, but they are third-party software. Check whether an extension is actively maintained, what permissions it requests, which Reddit interface it supports, and how it handles page data before installing it. A filter that works on desktop may not affect the mobile app.

Why Reddit tags are helpful but imperfect
The label system depends on human behavior and moderator enforcement. A careful poster can blur the thumbnail and hide the preview, but an untagged post, a cross-post, a comment, or a screenshot may still expose a detail. Even when the tag works, a visible title can contain enough information to spoil a plot point. Treat the blur as a pause button that gives you a choice, not as proof that every spoiler has been removed.

YouTube’s documented blocked words setting is located in YouTube Studio comment settings. It is designed for creators: they can add words and phrases to a blocked list, comments containing or closely matching those terms may be held for review for up to 60 days, and live-chat messages can also be blocked. The creator reviews held comments in YouTube Studio. The setting applies to channel and video comments and to future comments.
That is not a viewer control for hiding video titles, thumbnails, search results, or recommendations. Adding MW4 to a channel’s blocked-word list will not clean your own Home page.

Reduce recommendation exposure as a viewer
- Pause or avoid related searches. Searching for the game, characters, weapons, missions, or release discussions gives YouTube strong signals about what to recommend next. If you have already searched, clear or pause the relevant watch and search history using the current controls in your account settings.
- Unsubscribe temporarily from spoiler-prone channels. This removes one source of subscriptions-feed exposure. You can subscribe again after finishing the campaign.
- Use “Not interested” when it appears. On a recommendation, open the three-dot menu and choose Not interested. If the option is shown, use Don’t recommend channel for a channel that repeatedly posts spoiler material.
- Do not open a tempting thumbnail. Even a short autoplay or preview can reveal a character, mission, or outcome and further train recommendations toward the topic.
- Consider a reputable browser filter for desktop. A maintained extension may hide page text or video titles, but support, permissions, and compatibility change. Recheck those details before installation and after major YouTube layout changes.
Why YouTube remains difficult to filter perfectly
Titles and thumbnails can communicate a spoiler without using the game’s name. Creators may use a character’s name, a cropped image, an emoji, or a vague phrase such as “the final mission.” A text filter cannot reliably identify every visual clue, and a viewer-side keyword mute is not documented in the blocked-words help article. Use YouTube only after you have finished the content if the cost of an accidental thumbnail is high.

Recommended setup before you start browsing
Configure the services in this order so that one platform does not immediately undo the protection you created on another:
- Set X muted words first. Add title variants, spoiler terms, and any safe, known names. Select Home timeline and Notifications, then choose an expiration period.
- Remove high-risk Reddit communities from your routine. Unfollow, leave, or avoid them temporarily according to the community and account options available to you. Do not rely on the spoiler label alone.
- Clean up YouTube signals. Stop related searches, unsubscribe from channels likely to post campaign material, and use Not interested or Don’t recommend channel on recommendations that appear.
- Protect secondary surfaces. Disable push notifications from entertainment or gaming accounts that may post screenshots, and avoid social widgets or trending panels during the spoiler window.
- Keep a private list of terms to add later. If you encounter a new abbreviation or character name through a safe, non-spoiler source, add it to X rather than repeatedly searching for it.
This setup reduces accidental exposure without claiming that any platform can understand every image, euphemism, or misspelling.
Troubleshoot common failures
A muted post still appears on X
Check that the term was saved under Muted words, that the post appeared in a selected surface, and that the term is actually present in the post text. If you saw it in search, that behavior is expected because X does not apply muted words to search results. If it arrived as a mobile notification from a followed account, the followed-account notification exception may apply.
Reddit shows a spoiler despite the blur system
The post may not have been tagged, the visible title may already contain the reveal, or a comment, cross-post, or image may have exposed it. Leave the community or stop opening its feed during the spoiler period. There is no documented personal Reddit keyword list to repair an untagged post after the fact.
YouTube keeps recommending the game
Do not click the recommendation to inspect it. Use the three-dot menu’s Not interested control, choose Don’t recommend channel where available, unsubscribe from the source, and stop related searches. Recommendations can reflect earlier viewing and search behavior, so several clean interactions may be needed before the Home page changes.
A browser extension stopped filtering
Check whether it supports the current Reddit or YouTube interface, whether it is still maintained, and whether a browser update changed its permissions. Disable it if it requests access unrelated to page filtering or if its publisher no longer provides updates. A broken extension is not a reason to trust the platform’s native controls more than they warrant.
What no spoiler filter can guarantee
- A post can reveal a plot point through an image with no matching text.
- Creators and users can use euphemisms, initials, alternate spellings, or character names you did not add.
- Search pages are often outside timeline and recommendation filters.
- Notifications can be generated by followed accounts or device settings that use a different path from the feed.
- Reddit’s spoiler labels require the poster or moderator to apply them correctly.
- YouTube’s blocked-word list is a creator moderation feature, not a viewer recommendation filter.
If avoiding one specific reveal matters more than convenience, the strongest practical measure is temporary separation: do not search the title, open likely communities, or browse gaming recommendation feeds until you have completed the relevant story.
