Check the front of the cable box for its manufacturer name and complete model number. Suddenlink is now part of Optimum, so current provider pages may use Optimum names; record the number printed on the hardware rather than relying on a brand or service name.
Find the model number on the box
- Look at the front panel. Optimum’s legacy digital-TV guide says the box’s model number is printed on the front. Copy the manufacturer name and full model string as shown. Optimum’s digital cable box guide
- Check the visible sides or rear label if needed. This is a practical fallback when the front is difficult to read; label placement can vary, so do not assume every model uses the same location.
- Separate the model from other identifiers. The serial number, FCC ID, remote-control model, and account package name are not the cable box model number.
- Use the full number when looking up documentation or contacting support. “Suddenlink,” “Altice,” and “Optimum” alone identify a provider or product family, not necessarily the specific hardware model.
Where to look on Scientific Atlanta SA 1800 and SA 1850 boxes
For these specific older Scientific Atlanta boxes, Optimum says the words “Scientific Atlanta” and the model number are printed to the left of the display. Optimum’s SA 1800/1850 FAQ describes these as legacy boxes and recommends arranging a replacement through Optimum. That guidance applies to the SA 1800 and SA 1850; it should not be assumed to apply to every Suddenlink-era box.
Tell whether it is an HD model
Optimum’s older guide says that a model number on the front containing “HD” indicates an HD digital cable box. Treat this as the guide’s identification rule, not as proof of DVR, recording, channel, or network features. Confirm those capabilities in documentation for the exact model or with Optimum. Understand current Optimum names
Suddenlink became Optimum, and product-family names have changed across generations. Optimum maps Altice One Box to Optimum One and Altice One Mini to Optimum TV Box. These are family or service names, not a substitute for the complete model number printed on an individual device. Optimum’s Altice One information

Use the right guide or get provider help
Optimum’s published guides include Samsung and Scientific Atlanta examples, while its current guide index includes Samsung Cable Box HD and Optimum TV Box guides. These examples are not a complete catalog of every box previously supplied under Suddenlink. Legacy digital cable box guide · Optimum TV support and guide index
If the label is missing or unreadable, check your Optimum account and support resources or contact Optimum with your account and equipment details. The cited provider guidance does not establish a universal on-screen menu path for identifying all box models, so use provider support rather than relying on an assumed menu route. Equipment support can depend on the particular device and account or location.
