Grand Theft Auto VI has not launched yet; Rockstar has announced November 19, 2026 as its release date. That means there is no verified GTA VI-specific repair procedure or confirmed menu path to follow today. After launch, use the diagnostic sequence below, but treat every in-game label as provisional until Rockstar publishes GTA VI support documentation.

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI will include radio stations and podcasts, with listening in vehicles and through the game’s headphone or earbud concept. The announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album contains 34 original tracks. If music is missing after release, first determine whether all game audio is affected, only licensed music is affected, or the problem appears only in a particular context such as party chat.

What is known about GTA 6 music right now?

GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, so reports describing a proven GTA VI fix before that date cannot be independently verified as launch troubleshooting. Rockstar’s official music announcement confirms radio stations, podcasts, vehicle listening, and a headphone/earbud listening concept. It also announces Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track collection with physical CD and vinyl preorder options.

Those announcements establish that music and spoken audio are planned features, not that a particular station, volume control, licensing option, or headset route will use a specific name. Rockstar may change menus between previews and the retail build. Use the procedures in this guide as a safe diagnostic order once the game is available, and verify the final labels against the shipped game and Rockstar Support.

Before changing anything, classify the failure

Do not assume that “no music” means the same fault in every case. Reproduce the problem once, then note the conditions in which it occurs.

What to compare Test cases What the result tells you
Platform PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S A platform-specific output, headset, or chat setting may be responsible.
Audio scope Music only; radio and licensed tracks; podcasts; dialogue; effects If effects and dialogue also vanish, investigate the system output before a music setting.
Location Inside a vehicle; on foot; another playable area A vehicle-only failure points toward radio or vehicle-audio behavior rather than total game muting.
Listening route TV or monitor speakers; wired headset; wireless headset; the game’s headphone/earbud concept A single route failing usually indicates output selection, mute, or mixer settings.
Chat context No party; console party chat; voice chat during gameplay If music disappears only during party chat, test chat mixing before reinstalling anything.
Persistence One session; every launch; one save; every save A one-session fault may clear after relaunching, while repeatable failures should be documented for support.

Safe troubleshooting sequence after GTA 6 launches

Perform these checks in order. They are standard diagnostics, not confirmed GTA VI instructions, so the wording of individual settings may differ in the released game.

  1. Check the game’s audio controls

Open GTA VI’s in-game audio settings. Confirm that the music or radio volume is above zero and that any control for radio, licensed music, or music playback is enabled. If the game offers separate sliders for effects, dialogue, music, and radio, change only the music-related control first so you can see which category responds.

Return to gameplay and test a radio station or podcast. If the setting is already correct, move to the console output checks rather than repeatedly changing unrelated sliders.

  2. Check the console output device and physical mute controls

On PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, verify that the intended TV, monitor, soundbar, or headset is selected as the active output. Check the headset’s physical mute switch, inline controls, wireless receiver, and battery or connection status. Confirm that the console’s game-audio level is not being reduced by a system mixer.

Listen for non-music game sounds while making these checks. If no dialogue or effects are audible either, the issue is broader than the radio system.

  3. Test party-chat mixing

If music disappears only when you join a console party, leave the party temporarily and retest the same station or podcast. A return of music outside the party indicates a chat or game-audio balance problem, not proof that the soundtrack is missing from the game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the console’s chat/game-audio mixer and any headset-side balance control. Keep the same output device and location while testing so only one variable changes.

  4. Compare stations, podcasts, and other game audio

Try a second radio station, a podcast, and a section of gameplay with no radio. Then test dialogue and effects. This separates a single station or track problem from a general music-system failure.

    • If one station is silent but another works, record the station name and whether the silence persists after changing vehicles.
    • If stations and podcasts are silent but effects and dialogue work, focus on the music/radio controls and report a possible licensed-audio issue.
    • If every sound is silent, return to the console output, headset, and mixer checks.
  5. Fully quit and relaunch the game

Close GTA VI rather than leaving it suspended, then start it again and repeat the same test. A complete relaunch can clear a temporary audio-session fault without changing saves or settings.

  6. Install available updates

Check for a game update on the console and install any available patch before repeating the test. Record the game version shown by the console or title screen. Do not assume that an update addresses music unless its notes or Rockstar Support specifically say so.

  7. Capture the conditions before contacting support

Write down the platform, edition, game version, output device, whether party chat was active, and whether the failure happened in a vehicle, on foot, or through headphones or earbuds. Include which stations, podcasts, and other sounds you tested and whether the problem occurred on every launch.

Only licensed music is missing

If dialogue, effects, and podcasts work but licensed songs do not, recheck the game’s music or licensed-content control and test more than one station. A silent licensed track can be different from a muted radio system. Document the exact station or song behavior and whether the result changes in a vehicle versus through the headphone or earbud concept.

Radio is silent, but podcasts play

This pattern suggests that podcast playback and radio playback may be controlled separately. Check for separate radio and music sliders, then test another station. Because GTA VI has not released, no specific setting name can be treated as authoritative until Rockstar documents it.

Nothing is audible anywhere

Check the console’s selected output, the headset mute switch, physical volume controls, and chat/game mixer first. Test another game or a console menu sound if available. If those are also silent, troubleshoot the console or headset rather than GTA VI’s radio controls.

Music cuts out only in party chat

Leave the party and retest. If audio returns, inspect the chat/game balance and headset mixing controls. Preserve the exact platform and chat setup in your notes; this context is important when reporting the fault.

The issue appears once and then disappears

After confirming the output device and volume, fully quit and relaunch the game. If the issue does not return, continue monitoring rather than changing multiple settings at once. If it returns on every launch, record the repeatable sequence for support.

Platform checks for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

Both platforms are relevant to GTA VI’s announced console release, but their system menus and mixer behavior differ. Use the console’s current audio and party-chat labels rather than copying instructions written for another platform.

Check PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X|S
Output destination Confirm the active HDMI, headset, or other selected output matches where you are listening. Confirm the selected TV, headset, or receiver is the device producing sound.
Physical controls Check the controller or headset mute state and the headset’s own volume or balance controls. Check the controller or headset mute state and any game/chat balance control.
Party test Leave the party and repeat the same in-game test. Leave the party and repeat the same in-game test; compare game/chat balance settings.
Update check Install the latest available GTA VI update before repeating the test. Install the latest available GTA VI update before repeating the test.

These are diagnostic categories, not claims that Rockstar has published identical menus for both consoles. Menu names and available controls can change with console-system updates and the final GTA VI build.

What the existing GTA V party-chat report does—and does not—prove

Rockstar Support has documented an issue in which Xbox Series X|S players cannot hear licensed in-game music while in Party Chat in GTA V or GTA Online. That support article was last updated April 22, 2024 and says Rockstar was investigating a solution.

This is evidence of a GTA V/GTA Online problem, not confirmation that GTA VI has the same defect. Do not apply a GTA V workaround as a guaranteed GTA VI fix, and do not describe the older report as a GTA VI announcement. Use it only to justify testing party chat as one possible condition after GTA VI launches.

How to report a reproducible GTA 6 music problem

A useful report lets support reproduce the fault without guessing which setting changed. Include:

  • Console model: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
  • Game edition and the installed GTA VI version.
  • Output device and whether you used TV speakers, a monitor, wired headset, or wireless headset.
  • Whether a console party or other voice chat was active.
  • Location and context: vehicle, on foot, or the game’s headphone/earbud concept.
  • Whether radio stations, podcasts, dialogue, and effects were each audible.
  • The exact station or podcast tested, if only certain content failed.
  • Whether the issue occurred once, after every launch, or only after joining a party.
  • What happened after checking volume, changing output, leaving the party, relaunching, and installing updates.

A short video showing the in-game audio setting, console mixer, party status, and silent playback can clarify whether the failure is in the game or the output chain. Avoid including account credentials or other private information.

Do soundtrack CD or vinyl products repair muted in-game audio?

No. Rockstar’s announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album includes 34 original tracks and physical CD and vinyl preorder options. Those are listening products, not patches, licenses, or troubleshooting tools for the game. Buying an album cannot restore a silent radio station, change a console mixer, or repair a headset connection.

What to expect before and after November 19, 2026

Before the announced release date, there is no official GTA VI-specific audio repair workflow to verify. After launch, Rockstar may publish a support article, change menu labels, identify a known defect, or issue a title update. Recheck the current support guidance and the game’s update notes before treating any workaround as definitive.

Until then, the most reliable approach is controlled testing: change one setting at a time, compare music with podcasts and non-music sounds, isolate party chat, fully relaunch, update the game, and preserve the exact conditions of failure. That process gives you actionable information without assuming that GTA V behavior or preview-era menus are identical to GTA VI.
