ChatGPT is free to use, and paid plans start at $8 per month in the United States. Individual users can choose Free, Go, Plus, or Pro at $100 or $200 per month. Organizations can choose Business or Enterprise, while verified U.S. K–12 educators may qualify for a free Teachers plan through June 2027.
The prices below are U.S. reference prices as of August 11, 2026. Taxes, local currency, app-store billing, regional availability, features, promotions, and usage limits can change, so confirm the amount shown on OpenAI’s official ChatGPT pricing page before subscribing.
ChatGPT prices at a glance
OpenAI’s consumer plans are billed per account, while Business is billed per standard seat. Enterprise and education plans use sales-managed pricing rather than a public rate card.
| Plan | U.S. reference price | Billing | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No subscription charge | Occasional use, experimentation, and basic ChatGPT access |
| Go | $8/month | Monthly; no annual billing | People who want more everyday usage than Free at the lowest paid price |
| Plus | $20/month | Monthly; no annual billing | Individuals who regularly use advanced tools for work, study, writing, analysis, or research |
| Pro | $100/month or $200/month | Monthly; no annual billing | Heavy individual users who repeatedly need higher usage allowances |
| Business | $25 per standard seat/month monthly, or $20 per standard seat/month annually | Monthly or annual; minimum two standard seats | Teams needing a shared workspace, centralized billing, and administrative controls |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Sales-managed | Large organizations needing custom contracts, governance, security, and support |
| ChatGPT for Teachers | Free through June 2027 for eligible users | Eligibility and verification required | Verified U.S. K–12 educators and eligible school staff |
| ChatGPT Edu | Custom quote | Sales-managed | Universities and higher-education institutions |
These are reference prices, not guaranteed tax-inclusive totals. Web checkout may use a local currency, and subscriptions bought through Apple or Google are billed by the relevant app store.

ChatGPT Free: $0 per month
The Free plan costs nothing and is suitable for trying ChatGPT, asking occasional questions, drafting text, and using a limited selection of ChatGPT’s tools.
OpenAI’s current plan comparison describes Free as having limited access to items such as:
- Messages and file uploads
- Image generation
- Voice features
- Deep research
- Memory and conversation context
- Codex access
The important word is limited. Free users may encounter lower allowances, reduced access to some higher-capability models or tools, or temporary limits sooner than paid users. OpenAI changes model availability and limits over time, so there is no reliable universal message count to promise. Check the model picker and the limits displayed in your account for the current experience. The official plan comparison is the best place to verify the current Free features.
Free is usually the right choice if you use ChatGPT occasionally, are evaluating whether it is useful, or can work comfortably within tool and message limits.
ChatGPT Go: $8 per month in the United States
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s lower-cost paid plan. In the United States it costs $8 per month. OpenAI says Go is available in all countries where ChatGPT is supported, although the price may be localized in some markets. It is billed monthly and does not offer annual billing. See OpenAI’s Go announcement and Go help documentation for the current regional and feature details.
Compared with Free, Go is designed to provide:
- More messages
- More file uploads
- More image creation
- More voice use
- Longer memory and conversation context
Go is therefore a practical upgrade for someone who frequently runs into Free limits but does not need every advanced capability in Plus. It is not simply “Plus at a lower price”: people who specifically need Plus-level advanced tools or higher-end model access should compare the current plan details before choosing Go.
One important caveat: OpenAI says Go may include ads. Its Go announcement says Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise remain ad-free. Advertising availability and testing can change, so treat this as a current policy rather than a permanent guarantee.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Go is usually the right choice if you want more everyday ChatGPT usage, uploads, images, voice, and memory for the lowest paid price, and you do not need the broader advanced-tool access associated with Plus.
ChatGPT Plus: $20 per month
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month and is billed monthly. It does not include annual billing or API usage.
Plus adds broader access to ChatGPT capabilities such as:
- More capable models and higher usage limits than the lower tiers
- Advanced reasoning
- Voice features
- Image generation
- File uploads and file analysis
- Deep research
- Custom GPT creation and use
The exact models, limits, and tool allowances are changeable. OpenAI advises users to check the model picker and their account experience rather than relying on a fixed message limit. Its ChatGPT Plus help page contains the current subscription and feature information.

- Pair and Play: With fast, easy Bluetooth wireless technology, you’re connected in seconds to this quiet cordless mouse —no dongle or port required
- Less Noise, More Focus: Silent mouse with 90% reduced click sound and the same click feel, eliminating noise and distractions for you and others around you (1)
- Long-Lasting Battery Life: Up to 18-month battery life with an energy-efficient auto sleep feature, so you can go longer between battery changes (2)
- Comfortable, Travel-Friendly Design: Small enough to toss in a bag; this slim and ambidextrous portable compact mouse guides either your right or left hand into a natural position
- Long-Range: Reliable, long-range Bluetooth wireless mouse works up to 10m/33 feet away from your computer (3)
Plus is the most sensible default paid plan for many individuals because it expands the tools most people use—writing, analysis, research, file work, images, voice, and custom GPTs—without the much higher price of Pro. That is a practical buying recommendation based on the published plan differences, not an independent test showing that Plus always produces better answers.
Plus is usually the right choice if you use ChatGPT regularly for work, study, writing, coding, document analysis, research, or creative projects and Free or Go limits are getting in the way.
ChatGPT Pro: $100 or $200 per month
ChatGPT Pro has two monthly options:
- Pro $100: $100 per month
- Pro $200: $200 per month
Both Pro tiers provide the same core capabilities. The principal difference is usage allowance: OpenAI describes the $100 tier as providing 5× Plus usage and the $200 tier as providing 20× Plus usage. Pro is billed monthly, and neither Pro tier currently supports annual billing. The current Pro documentation should be checked for model-specific allowances and restrictions.
Pro is aimed at individuals who repeatedly make heavy use of demanding features such as advanced reasoning, deep research, image generation, Codex, or other high-demand tools. It is not automatically a better value for someone who only asks occasional questions: the main reason to pay for Pro is the higher allowance and access profile, not a guaranteed improvement in every response.
Pro $100 may fit a heavy user who regularly outgrows Plus but does not need the highest available allowance.
Pro $200 may fit a professional or power user whose work depends on using ChatGPT intensively throughout the day and who is likely to benefit from the larger allowance.
Do not interpret “unlimited” language as an unconditional promise. Paid plans remain subject to usage policies, abuse-prevention guardrails, model-specific allowances, and possible temporary restrictions. OpenAI can also change limits as models and capacity change.
ChatGPT Business: $25 or $20 per standard seat per month
ChatGPT Business is designed for organizations that need more than individual subscriptions. The current U.S.-dollar reference pricing is:
- $25 per standard seat per month when billed monthly
- $20 per standard seat per month when billed annually
Business standard seats generally have a minimum purchase of two seats. That makes the ordinary minimum commitment approximately:

- 【Rechargeable Wireless Mouse】: Equipped with a 500mAh lithium-ion battery, it charges in 2 hours for over 7 days of use and 30 days on standby. The mouse sleeps after 5 minutes of inactivity to save power and can be woken with any click.
- 【Colorful LED Breathing Light】: Features 7 colorful LED lights that change randomly, adding a fun atmosphere to your workspace.
- 【Portable Mouse】Compact size (4.4 x 2.3 x 1.1 inches) makes it easy to fit in your laptop bag. Lightweight and ergonomic, it's perfect for travel. Contact us anytime for support.
- 【Wide Compatibility】: Works with laptops, PCs, tablets, and smartphones across various operating systems, including Android, Windows, and Mac. Ideal for home, office, and travel.
- $50 per month for two standard seats on monthly billing
- $480 per year for two standard seats on annual billing, equivalent to $40 per month before taxes
The two-seat totals are arithmetic based on OpenAI’s published per-seat prices and minimum; taxes, regional pricing, and any additional usage credits can change the amount charged.
Business is intended for teams that need a shared workspace, centralized billing, and business-oriented privacy, security, and administration features. Workspaces can also purchase additional credits for usage beyond included limits. That makes the per-seat price only part of the potential cost for a team with substantial usage.
Be careful with older articles that list Business at $30 per seat monthly or $25 annually. Those are legacy figures rather than the current reference prices supplied for this update. OpenAI’s current pricing page should take precedence over cached comparison tables.
Business is usually the right choice if two or more people need to work in one managed environment and the organization values centralized administration over simply buying separate personal plans.
ChatGPT Enterprise: custom pricing
ChatGPT Enterprise does not have a public standard price. Organizations must contact OpenAI’s sales team for a quote. The final cost can depend on factors such as organization size, contract terms, deployment requirements, usage, and negotiated volume pricing.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOpenAI positions Enterprise for organizations that need capabilities such as:
- Custom contracting and invoicing
- Volume discounts
- Expanded security and administration
- Data-residency options
- Custom retention controls
- Service-level agreements
- Sales-supported deployment
Enterprise may also use credit-based or token-based pricing for some usage. Organizations with these requirements should request a quote rather than extrapolating from Business seat prices. See OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise and business pricing information.
ChatGPT for Teachers: free through June 2027 for eligible U.S. educators
ChatGPT for Teachers is free through June 2027 for verified U.S. K–12 educators and eligible school staff. Verification is required, and the current offer is not for students.
OpenAI says pricing may change after the free period with advance notice. Eligibility is also specific to the program, so a person who teaches outside the United States, works outside K–12 education, or is a student should not assume they qualify. Check the ChatGPT for Teachers announcement and eligibility help page before applying.

ChatGPT Edu: custom university pricing
ChatGPT Edu is OpenAI’s institution-focused offering for universities. OpenAI describes it as an affordable, sales-managed university plan, but it does not publish a standard public list price.
Universities interested in Edu need to contact OpenAI for a quote. The price should not be confused with an individual Plus subscription or with the separate Enterprise offering. See OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu announcement for the program’s current positioning.

Eligible nonprofits may be able to obtain discounted ChatGPT Business pricing:
- $10 per user per month with monthly billing
- $8 per user per month with annual billing
Eligibility and approval are required. Larger nonprofits can contact sales about discounts of up to 75% on ChatGPT Enterprise. These are not automatic discounts available to every organization that describes itself as nonprofit; the organization must meet OpenAI’s eligibility requirements. Details are in OpenAI’s nonprofit pricing help page.

Use this decision guide rather than choosing solely by the headline price.
- Start with Free if you are experimenting, use ChatGPT occasionally, or can tolerate limited access to tools and higher-capability features.
- Choose Go if your main problem is running out of everyday messages, uploads, image creation, voice use, or memory and you want the least expensive paid tier. Choose something else if you specifically require Plus-level advanced tools or higher-end model access.
- Choose Plus for regular individual productivity. It is the likely default for people who write, analyze documents, research, code, study, or use advanced tools often enough that Free or Go feels restrictive.
- Choose Pro $100 if you repeatedly use advanced reasoning, deep research, image generation, Codex, or similar features and need substantially more usage than Plus provides.
- Choose Pro $200 if you are a particularly heavy individual user and the 20× Plus allowance is more valuable to you than the additional $100 per month.
- Choose Business when multiple people need a shared workspace, centralized billing, and administrative controls. Remember the two-seat minimum and the possibility of additional usage credits.
- Choose Enterprise when you need custom contracting, invoicing, data residency, custom retention, SLAs, volume pricing, or sales-supported deployment.
- Use ChatGPT for Teachers if you are a verified U.S. K–12 educator or eligible school staff member and meet the program’s requirements.
- Ask about ChatGPT Edu if you represent a university. There is no public standard price.
- Check nonprofit eligibility before paying standard Business or Enterprise rates if your organization is a qualifying nonprofit.
These recommendations are based on OpenAI’s published plan positioning and allowances. They are not independent performance rankings, and the best plan can change if OpenAI changes limits, models, tools, or prices.
Billing, currency, taxes, and app stores
Monthly versus annual billing
Go, Plus, and Pro are monthly subscriptions. OpenAI’s current help documentation says these plans do not support annual billing or paying for multiple months in advance.
Business offers both monthly and annual billing for standard seats. The annual per-seat rate is lower than the monthly reference rate, but an annual subscription creates a longer commitment. Enterprise and education arrangements are handled separately through sales.
Local currency and final checkout price
OpenAI supports localized currencies in many regions through web checkout. Purchases made through the iOS App Store or Google Play are managed by Apple or Google and appear in the local currency used by that store. Enterprise and Education plans do not necessarily follow the same checkout process.
The final amount can differ from the U.S. reference price because of taxes, VAT, GST, exchange rates, regional pricing, or app-store billing. Treat the dollar amounts in this article as comparison figures, not as guaranteed tax-inclusive totals.
Avoid duplicate subscriptions
It is possible to subscribe once on the web and again through Apple or Google without realizing that the subscriptions are separate. Before starting a new subscription, check the subscription manager on each platform where you may have purchased ChatGPT. OpenAI’s duplicate-charge guidance explains how to check the web, Apple, and Google billing channels.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Promotions, trials, and renewal prices
OpenAI may offer partner-issued promotional codes or limited referral trials. Eligibility can depend on the campaign, account, geography, duration, and other terms. These offers are not a permanent public discount and should not be treated as guaranteed pricing.

Most Plus promotions automatically renew at the normal monthly rate unless you cancel before the promotional period ends. Read the offer’s renewal terms carefully and set a reminder if you do not want the regular subscription to begin. OpenAI documents current promotion and referral rules in its Plus promotions and referrals help article.

Limits, ads, and the meaning of “unlimited”
A paid subscription does not mean every model or tool is available without restriction. Limits can be model-specific and can change with demand, capacity, account status, or product updates.
- Free: limited messages, uploads, image generation, voice, deep research, memory/context, and Codex access.
- Go: more access than Free, but OpenAI says the plan may include ads and it is not equivalent to Plus.
- Plus: broader access and higher limits, but still subject to changing allowances.
- Pro: substantially higher allowances, but “unlimited” access remains subject to abuse guardrails and model-specific limits.
- Business and Enterprise: usage may involve included limits and, depending on the arrangement, additional credits or metered pricing.
Because OpenAI changes limits and model availability, a fixed message number copied from an older article may be inaccurate. Check the model picker, plan page, and notices inside your account before making a purchase decision. OpenAI also discusses changing availability and limits in its Plus documentation.
How cancellation, upgrades, downgrades, and refunds work
Manage the subscription through the billing channel where you bought it. A web subscription is handled through your ChatGPT account billing controls; an Apple or Google subscription is handled through the corresponding app-store subscription manager. The exact labels and steps can change, so use the account or store billing controls associated with the purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ChatGPT completely free?
ChatGPT has a free plan that costs $0, but it includes limits on messages, uploads, image generation, voice, deep research, memory or context, Codex, and other higher-capability features. Paid plans start at $8 per month in the United States with ChatGPT Go.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDoes ChatGPT Plus include OpenAI API usage?
No. ChatGPT subscriptions and the OpenAI API are billed separately. Plus pays for access to the ChatGPT application; app developers and automation users need a separate API account and usage-based API billing.
Can I pay annually for ChatGPT Plus or Pro?
No. OpenAI’s current documentation says Go, Plus, and Pro are monthly subscriptions and do not support annual billing or paying for multiple months in advance. Business supports both monthly and annual billing for standard seats.
What is the cheapest paid ChatGPT plan?
ChatGPT Go is the cheapest paid plan at $8 per month in the United States. It provides more everyday messages, uploads, image creation, voice use, and memory than Free, but it may include ads and is not a substitute for every Plus feature.
What happens if I cancel ChatGPT?
Cancellation normally prevents the next renewal while allowing access through the end of the current billing period. The process depends on whether you subscribed through the web, Apple, or Google. Refund requests are handled by OpenAI or the relevant app store based on the purchase channel.

Not under the eligibility described for the current Teachers program. ChatGPT for Teachers is free through June 2027 for verified U.S. K–12 educators and eligible school staff, and OpenAI says the plan is not currently for students.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: ChatGPT costs $0 on Free, $8 per month for Go, $20 per month for Plus, and $100 or $200 per month for Pro in the United States. Plus is the practical starting point for most paying individual users; Go is the budget upgrade from Free, Pro is for unusually heavy usage, Business is for managed team workspaces, and Enterprise or Edu require a custom quote. Remember that API charges are separate, and verify the official pricing page before subscribing because prices, limits, promotions, and regional terms can change.
