Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are polished, comfortable wireless earbuds with useful noise cancellation and the best feature set when paired with a Pixel phone. They are a strong fit for people invested in Google’s ecosystem, but their $229 launch price and weaker non-Pixel latency make them less compelling as an all-purpose premium pick. Their sound is good, though independent testing does not place it among the very top measured performers.

What are Pixel Buds Pro 2, and what do they cost?

Google launched the Pixel Buds Pro 2 on August 13, 2024, at a suggested price of $229. The earbuds use Google’s Tensor A1 chip and add active noise cancellation (ANC), Gemini features and a redesigned, smaller fit. Google describes them as 24% lighter and 27% smaller than the original Pixel Buds Pro. That is a comparison with the previous generation, not with competing earbuds.

The $229 figure is the launch MSRP, not a guarantee of today’s price. SoundGuys displayed a $189.99 Amazon price when its page was crawled, while Google’s 2025 update announcement still listed Moonstone at $229. Check the retailer for the current price and color availability.

How do Pixel Buds Pro 2 sound?

SoundGuys praised the earbuds’ sound, but its lab assessment is a useful qualification to the “premium sound” pitch. Its MDAQS test gave them 4.5 out of 5 and placed that result in the bottom third of its measured wireless-earbud set. MDAQS models measured timbre, distortion and immersiveness; it is not a universal rating of what every listener will prefer, nor does it mean the earbuds sound poor. Taken together, the evidence supports a straightforward verdict: good sound, not established as class-leading.

If the default tuning is not to your taste, the Pixel Buds app offers EQ presets. SoundGuys’ September 2024 review rated the product 7.4/10 overall, including 8.0/10 for ANC, 8.5/10 for comfort and fit, 7.0/10 for battery life, 7.5/10 for design and 5.0/10 for connectivity. These are that publication’s review scores, not standardized industry ratings.

How effective is the noise cancellation?

ANC is a strength, though not a decisive reason to choose these over every rival. SoundGuys rated it 8/10 and described it as decent. Google says Tensor A1 makes ANC “twice as strong as our previous generation earbuds”; that is the company’s claim, not an independently verified comparison.

RTINGS’ comparisons point to differences in what each product blocks and how consistently it performs. Sony WF-1000XM5 foam tips passively reduce more treble noise, while AirPods Pro 2 offer better noise isolation in RTINGS’ assessment. Those comparisons are useful when isolation is your top priority, but do not establish one universal winner for every ear, environment or listening preference.

Google announced Adaptive Audio and Loud Noise Protection in August 2025. Adaptive Audio adjusts to surroundings, while Loud Noise Protection is intended to address sudden loud sounds. What Hi-Fi reported on August 13, 2026 that Google introduced dynamic ANC adjustments to compensate for subtle seal shifts as the earbuds move during walking or exercise. Feature availability can depend on firmware rollout and region.

Are they comfortable and secure?

The redesign is lightweight and comfortable for many listeners. Google says it based the shape on 45 million ear-scan data points and real-life wear tests, and added a twist-to-adjust stabilizer. Treat the scan figure as a manufacturer design claim, not a promise of a perfect fit. SoundGuys’ 8.5/10 comfort-and-fit score offers independent support, but fit still depends on your ears.

The Google specifications list four eartip sizes: extra-small, small, medium (attached) and large. The listed weight is 4.7 g per earbud and 65.0 g for the case with earbuds. The earbuds are rated IP54 and the case IPX4 in the published technical sheet surfaced in search results. These ratings indicate dust and splash resistance, not suitability for swimming; check the current regional specification before purchase if the rating matters to you.

  • Google Pixel Buds 2a deliver lightweight comfort, crisp audio, Active Noise Cancellation, and a dependable battery, all for less[1]
  • Hear only what you want to hear; Google Tensor A1 powers Active Noise Cancellation with Silent Seal 1.5 to help block external noise; or switch to Transparency mode to hear the world around you while you listen
  • Immerse yourself in clear, crisp audio with the 11 mm dynamic speaker driver, or customize the levels of bass, treble, and more with the 5-band equalizer
  • Pixel Buds 2a are built for lightweight comfort and an impeccable fit; secure them during workouts or commutes with the twist-to-adjust stabilizer, or twist the other direction for relaxed comfort
  • Hear and be heard with Clear Calling; it helps block background noise, so wind, external chatter, or other distractions in your environment won’t interrupt your conversations[2]

How long does the battery last?

Google’s headline estimate is up to 8 hours of listening with ANC enabled, or up to 30 hours including the charging case. The company also says a 15-minute case charge can provide up to three additional hours of listening. These are manufacturer maximums; actual playback time varies with settings and use.

SoundGuys lists 12 hours for the earbuds and 30 hours with the case, but its 12-hour specification is not presented as an ANC-on figure. Do not compare it directly with Google’s 8-hour ANC-on estimate; the operating condition differs. The case supports wireless charging.

Do they work with non-Pixel phones?

Yes. Core Bluetooth audio playback is not limited to Pixel phones, and RTINGS notes broader Android and PC pairing as an advantage. However, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are most complete as Pixel companions: Google’s Audio Switch, Find My Device integration, Gemini conveniences and Pixel-specific low-latency behavior strengthen the case for owning them alongside a Pixel.

RTINGS reports high latency without a compatible Pixel device and says some spatial-audio and seamless-switching features are ecosystem-locked. SoundGuys also lists connectivity as a weakness and notes that some features are Pixel-only. If you watch video or play games on a non-Pixel device, latency may matter more than the earbuds’ sound or comfort.

Google announced expanded Gemini Live interactions in noisier environments in 2025. The feature is part of the broader Google experience, so check device, account, language and regional support before treating it as a deciding reason to buy.

Should you buy Pixel Buds Pro 2?

They make sense if

  • You use a Pixel phone and want Google features such as Audio Switch, Gemini integration and Pixel-specific low-latency behavior.
  • Comfort, a compact design and a secure stabilizer matter more than chasing the highest measured sound score.
  • You find them below their $229 launch MSRP and are satisfied with good rather than demonstrably class-leading ANC and sound.

Compare alternatives if

  • You want maximum isolation or better passive blocking of treble noise; RTINGS’ comparison favors AirPods Pro 2 for isolation and Sony WF-1000XM5 foam tips for treble blocking.
  • You use Apple devices and value Apple-only multi-device pairing.
  • You need the best latency on a non-Pixel phone, or higher-bitrate codec support is a priority.
