Sometimes, but not as a universal guarantee. Intel says its Precompiled Shaders feature can improve game-loading performance by 1.3x to more than 5x, depending on the game and system. That range includes results around twice as fast, but it does not mean every supported game will load in half the time. The feature downloads pre-optimized shader files for select games, reducing some shader compilation that would otherwise happen locally.
What Intel Precompiled Shaders do
Shaders are programs used to render graphics. A game may need to compile them locally, including when it starts, which can add work before play begins. Intel’s feature automatically downloads pre-optimized shader files from Intel cloud storage for supported games, reducing the need to compile those shaders on the player’s system at launch. Intel describes the downloads as applying to select games, not every title in a library. Intel’s March 17, 2026 announcement and its Arc gaming technology overview describe the feature.
Intel also describes a related development pipeline with Microsoft called Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD). Developers package Pipeline State Objects into a State Object Database; Intel’s offline compiler turns that into a Precompiled Shader Database, which is used at runtime to accelerate loading and reduce stutter. This is a description of how the developer and platform pipeline works, not a separate set of steps a player follows to enable the user-facing feature. Intel Developer’s explanation of the Intel–Microsoft collaboration covers that process.
How much faster are game loads?
Intel’s March 2026 announcement reports improvements ranging from 1.3x to more than 5x, depending on the game and system configuration. These are Intel-reported results, not a guarantee for each supported game or an independent comparison. A speed multiplier also does not translate into the same percentage reduction in time for every title: load durations and results vary by game, system, and test method. The headline idea of “in half” describes a possible result around a 2x speedup, not a universal outcome. Intel’s feature announcement provides the range.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Intel separately reports “more than 3x faster on average game load times” on its Arc G-series handheld page. That result is a geometric mean across 14 supported games, measured on an MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ at 35W sustained power and 1080p High, with 2x upscaling when supported. Intel says the test was conducted in May 2026 and that results may vary. It is a specific handheld test, not a general average for all Intel graphics hardware or all games. Intel’s Arc G-series page and test footnote give the conditions.
Who can use the feature?

- Graphics hardware: Intel Arc graphics built into Intel Core Ultra 3/200V series processors, or an Intel Arc B-Series discrete GPU.
- Driver and operating system: Intel graphics driver 32.0.101.8626 or newer, on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Storage and internet: At least 1 GB of available storage, with more needed for larger game libraries, and an active internet connection.
- Game platform: The announcement says the feature works exclusively with games installed through Steam.
- Supported title: The game must be on Intel’s supported list. Its March 2026 announcement names 13 titles, including Black Myth: Wukong, Borderlands 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Intel says support expands with driver updates, so check Intel’s feature page for current compatibility.
How to enable Intel Precompiled Shaders
Intel says the feature is disabled by default on supported systems. To turn it on:
- Open Intel Graphics Software.
- Go to Graphics → 3D Rendering → Precompiled Shaders.
- Toggle Precompiled Shaders on.
Intel says this starts automatic downloads for supported Steam games already installed on the system. Installing a supported game later also triggers a download. Downloads require the active internet connection and available storage noted above. Intel’s setup instructions describe the setting and behavior.

What to do about stutter after a driver update
Precompiled shader delivery is not a fix for every kind of stutter. Intel Support says shader processing after a graphics-driver update can cause brief pauses or gameplay stutter while shaders are processed in the background. Its guidance is to wait for processing to reach 100%; the time required can be several minutes depending on the game and system. Intel says performance should stabilize after processing finishes. Intel Support’s post-driver shader-processing guidance, reviewed May 13, 2026, gives these steps.

How to judge whether it is relevant to your setup
- Check the exact hardware and driver first. Intel’s listed support covers specified Arc hardware, not all PCs with Intel graphics.
- Check your game and storefront. A supported title installed outside Steam does not meet the announcement’s stated Steam requirement.
- Keep the test context in mind. Intel’s 14-game average comes from one named handheld and specified power, resolution, and upscaling conditions; it should not be applied as a promise to a desktop or a different game library.
- Treat hardware examples as examples, not purchase advice. Intel lists Arc B-Series discrete GPUs as eligible; an Arc B580 is one example in that family, but verify current driver and feature eligibility for the exact setup before buying. The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is Intel’s named test system, not a requirement.
