Dell XPS 13 2-in-1: At First Glance
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a new addition to Dell’s already fantastic 2-in-1 premium laptop range. This laptop comes with an upgrade in performance and hardware specifications.
In fact, this laptop is close to being the best example of a premium 2-in-1 laptop. At first glance, it is obvious that Dell has pushed itself to produce a laptop that is totally worth it.
However, the lack of discrete graphics on the laptop is a bit disappointing. The implication is that you will not be able to accelerate this laptop’s performance during gaming or video/picture editing.

On your first encounter with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, you will immediately fall in love with it. Just by looking at it, you can tell that it is as sleek as its predecessors and the traditional Dell XPS 13.

Speaking of the XPS 13, it is obvious that Dell made use of its design as a blueprint for the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1’s design. The major difference between both laptops is the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1’s versatility.
Hence, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 looks almost entirely identical to its predecessors and the regular XPS 13. It has a very attractive aluminum design we usually see with Dell’s XPS laptops.
In addition, this laptop’s build quality is excellent. Dell clearly put in enough effort into the construction of this laptop.

The laptop’s Diamond cut edges with its brushed finish are visual representations of the painstaking measures Dell took to make this laptop.
Like every 2-in-1 laptop, Dell equipped this laptop with a 360-degree hinge. This means that you can use the laptop in its traditional laptop form, tent mode, or as a large tablet.
Furthermore, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a very thin laptop even though it is slightly heavier than the regular XPS 13. Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 measures 296 x 207 x 7 mm and weighs 1330 g.
Even with its compact design, this laptop’s backlit keyboard makes the most of the limited space. The keyboard stretches to the laptop’s edges.

Below the keyboard is a perfectly responsive and spacious touchpad. Its silky surface feels very good to touch.
Additionally, Dell offers a limited port selection. It offers a headphone jack, 2 Thunderbolt 3 with power delivery and DisplayPort, and a Thunderbolt 3 with power delivery and DisplayPort.
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 scores a nine in this review for its excellent build and attractive design.

Dell equipped the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 with a quad-core Intel Core i5-1035 G1 processor. The processor has a base frequency of 1.0 GHz and a boost frequency of 3.60 GHz.

The Core i5 processor provides plenty of computing power for the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 to carry out most of the computing operation. This laptop easily handles web browsing, document editing, and sending emails.
Moreover, this processor offers the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 a good performance that makes it compete with most quad-core laptops. Furthermore, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 beats its competitors in terms of performance.
Moving to the CPU performance test, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 scored 4,879 points in a Geekbench 5 test. The laptop surpassed the HP Spectre x360 13 that scored 4,074 and the Lenovo Yoga C940 that scored 4,074.
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 also beat the XPS 13 that scored 5,254 and the category average 4,115 score. Hence, I rate it an eight in this review for its impressive CPU performance.
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1: Memory (RAM) Performance
Dell offers two RAM configurations for the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. You can buy this laptop with either 8 GB or 16 GB LPDDR4 RAM.
This review focuses on the 16 GB RAM. With this RAM size, I opened 23 Chrome browser tabs simultaneously with apps like Spotify and Slack.
To further test this laptop’s RAM, I began to stream two YouTube videos. Surprisingly, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 didn’t encounter any issue despite running all those operations at the same time.
Moreover, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 launches new web pages quickly. It also rendered those web pages’ graphics and photos within few seconds.
As a result of its multitasking capabilities, I rate Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 an eight in this review.
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1: Storage Options and Performance
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 comes with a 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. This laptop also offers a microSD card reader for storage expansion.
Naturally, you would expect this laptop’s storage speed to be impressive due to its Solid-state drive type. Fortunately, it didn’t disappoint.

On a CrystalDiskMark test, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 recorded a sequential read speed of 2277 MBps and a sequential write speed of 1234 MBps. On a file transfer test, it copied a 4.97 GB multimedia file in 11 seconds at a transfer rate of 463 MBps.
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1’s transfer rate is faster than that of Spectre x360’s 392 MBps and the Yoga C940’s copy rate of 395 MBps. However, it fell behind the XPS 13’s 732 MBps copy rate and the 541 MBps category average rate.
Nonetheless, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1’s storage speed is good enough. Hence, I rate it an eight in this review.
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1: Graphics Card Performance
The Dell XPS 13 12-in-1 features an integrated Intel UHD Graphics GPU. This GPU has a base frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1150 MHz.
Gaming is not really an option with this laptop. Moreover, its lack of dedicated VRAM doesn’t help its gaming performance.

On a gaming test, this laptop played Overwatch at 40 FPS. Since it exceeded the 30 FPS playability rate, its performance is not too bad.
Although this laptop is not exceptional at gaming, it can handle casual gaming. Hence, it scores a six in this review.
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1: Battery Life and Performance
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 comes with a 4-Cell 51 WHr integrated battery. Dell claims that this laptop can last up to 16 hours 55 minutes.

However, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 didn’t last that long in a battery life test that was carried out. This laptop lasted for 10 hours 55 minutes on a battery life test that involved continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi.
In comparison with its competitors, its battery life performance is okay – even though it doesn’t stand out. For a comparison example, the Spectre x360 13 lasted longer than the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 – it lasted 12 hours 7 minutes.

Additionally, the Yoga C940 also outlasted the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. The Yoga C940 lasted for 11 hours 46 minutes.
However, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 exceeded the premium laptop average battery life of 9 hours 52 minutes. Therefore, based on its battery performance, I rate the laptop an eight in this review.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is an awesome laptop that delivers excellent performance. The laptop has a remarkable build, therefore it feels very great. You will definitely get great value for your money.
