ell Inspiron 7373: At First Glance

Dell’s laptop lineup is very elaborate. There is the XPS lineup, which is considered among the best Windows-powered laptop series you can possibly find.

Also, there is the Inspiron lineup which has the 7000 series at the top position, and at the bottom is the 3000 series. There is also a mid-range 5000 series too.

However, for the purpose of this review, we are focusing on the Dell Inspiron 7373, which is a model from the 7000 series. I know you are eager to know the performance of this convertible; hence, let’s delve right into that.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

Dell’s Inspiron lineup has always been an incredible budget choice, but it has not always been the most stylish. However, with this Inspiron 13 7000 range, there is a change in that narrative.

The Inspiron 13 7000 range offers a new, smarter design that presents a look that we can closely associate with high-end ultrabooks. Interestingly, the Inspiron 13 7373 takes the lead among models from the Inspiron 13 7000 series with a stylish look.

In short, Dell’s Inspiron 13 7373 is a very simple but stylish convertible laptop. It gives a premium look for less.

Dell made the Inspiron 7373 available in a color choice of champagne pink or silver. These two color options have a subtle shade that looks great.

For its design material, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 is made with an all-aluminum chassis. Therefore, it feels tough and is effortlessly one of the nicely built laptops in its category.

That said, don’t anticipate the build quality to be the same as Dell’s XPS lineup, which is a level above.

Having talked about the build material and color options, let us take a quick tour around this laptop. Hence, we will begin with the lid.

On the aluminum lid, there is a silver Dell logo which gives away the laptop’s identity from afar.

Since the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 is a convertible laptop, you can flip the lid back up to 360 degrees. Hence, it is possible to use it in tablet or tent mode.

The Inspiron’s hinges are very flexible, and you will barely notice any snagging when you switch between tent and tablet modes.

Moving on to when you lift the laptop’s lid, you’ll find a 13.3-inch glossy screen. The top screen bezel and the side screen bezels are slim, but the bottom bezel is chunky.

Nevertheless, there is an HD Webcam located at the top screen bezel of the laptop. The camera is Windows Hello compatible, so even if you don’t want to snap or video chat, you can log in to your laptop using just your face.

For the screen, it has a Full HD resolution with touch abilities. Moreover, with its 300 nits of brightness, the Inspiron 13 7373s screen should cope well in very bright environments.

This is a result of the IPS panel that the Inspiron 13 7373 uses. IPS displays handle glare pretty well, even when they are used in direct sunlight.

In addition to its decent brightness, the screen also has wide viewing angles. Hence, image quality is quite satisfactory even when you flip the panel down to 45 degrees.

Moreover, the Inspiron 13 7373 display is also touchscreen-enabled. Hence, you can use an active stylus pen with the display.

Unfortunately, Dell doesn’t ship one to the laptop. You will have to purchase it separately.

Proceeding to the keyboard, while the keyboard is not an award-winning one, it is pretty reliable. The keyboard on this laptop is an island-style keyboard.

The keys feel shallow, and they are a bit stiff. However, all keys push down with a similar amount of force and produce a slight audible sound when pressed down.

However, it has two-stage white backlighting, making it easy to use in the dark. As for the touchpad, the Inspiron’s 4.1 x 2.5-inch touchpad is buttonless and has a gritty feel.

Although the Inspiron’s touchpad’s surface is a bit too rough, it gives accurate navigation. It is also easy to use the Windows precision drivers, and it permits every kind of Windows gesture.

Proceeding to audio, the Inspiron 13 7373 has a great sound system. It features two speakers on each side of the battery.

The stereo speakers reproduce accurate sound and are loud enough to fill a large conference room without distortion.

Moving on to the ports, the Inspiron 13 7373 provides two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and an HDMI port. There is also a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (DisplayPort).

However, Dell held back on including a Thunderbolt port and an RJ-45 (wired ethernet) port.

For its weight and dimension, the Inspiron 13 7373 weighs 1630 g. Meanwhile, it has a dimension of 309.6 x 215.7 x 15.5 mm (W x D x H).

With its weight and dimensions, Inspiron 13 7373 obviously belongs to the category of lightweight and portable laptops out there. By virtue of hierarchy, it is the next best light and thin notebook Dell offers after the XPS.

In comparison with the Lenovo yoga 720, the Inspiron 13 7373 is lighter and more portable. Precisely, the Lenovo Yoga 720 weighs 2000 g and measures 364 x 242 x 19.9 mm (W x D x H).

Finally, from all the analysis in this design review section, I’ll rate the Inspiron 13 7373 an eight.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Processor (CPU) Performance

Dell equipped the Inspiron 13 7373 with a 4-core Intel Core i7-8550U processor. This processor has a base frequency of 1.80 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.00 GHz.

With this processor, the Inspiron 13 7373 can handle heavy tasks, regular computing operations, and also multitask effectively.

To further determine the laptop’s processor performance, I will include its result in a Geekbench 4 test. Geekbench 4 test is a synthetic benchmark test that measures the overall performance of a computer’s processor.

Based on the benchmark test result, the Inspiron 13 7373 scored 12,949 points, thereby surpassing the category average of 6,545 points.

In comparison, the laptop outperformed the ASUS Zenbook Flip, which scored 8,017 points. However, the Dell Inspiron 13 came top position with 13,911 points.

Overall, the Inspiron 13 7373 convertible laptop showcases an exceptional processor performance. Therefore, I will rate it a nine out of ten in this CPU performance review.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Memory (RAM) Performance

The default configuration of the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 comes with 8 GB or 16 GB DDR4 RAM. Unfortunately, the RAM cannot be upgraded to a higher capacity.

This is because the laptop does not come with an additional RAM slot. Also, its only RAM slot is soldered directly to the laptop’s motherboard, further explaining why the RAM is not upgraded.

Like the processor, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373’s RAM also performs well. As a result, the overall productivity of this laptop was not affected during a series of tests carried out by notebookcheck.com.

For example, the laptop ran very well with two dozens of Chrome browser tabs opened. One of these browser tabs had a 1080p resolution YouTube video playing simultaneously.

The laptop continued to perform without slowing down, even when some document editing was included. Furthermore, the laptop stayed active and responsive after opening even more applications such as candy crush.

To further examine the laptop’s RAM performance, I will now share its result on a PCMark 10 benchmark test. This benchmark tool tests the overall performance ability of a computer’s memory.

Meanwhile, a higher score in this benchmark signifies a better performance.

Therefore, from the benchmark test result, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 scored 5,170 points. While that is impressive, what’s more impressive is that the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 supersedes two of its competitors.

Specifically, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 superseded the Lenovo yoga 720 and HP Spectre x360, which scored 4,354 and 4,786 respectively.

Finally, I’ll rate the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 a nine in this memory review section because of its excellent RAM performance.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Storage Options and Performance

The Dell Inspiron 13 7373 comes with 512 GB SSD storage. In addition to the 512 GB storage space, there is also an SD card slot for storage expansion.

Hence, if the 512 GB of storage is not sufficient for storing a large number of your files, then you can insert an SD card to achieve the storage space you desire.

That said, to determine the performance of the SSD storage, I will go ahead to share its result in a CrystalDiskMark benchmark test. Just in case you’re wondering, a CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark that measures the speed of a computer’s storage.

It achieves this by measuring both the read and write speed of the storage drive. Briefly, read speed means the time it takes a computer’s storage to open a file.

Meanwhile, write speed shows how long it takes a file to be stored on the computer’s storage. Also, worth mentioning is that on this test, the higher the number the better.

Therefore, on the CrystalDiskMark benchmark test, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 had a sequential read speed of 1249.8 MBps. It also had a sequential write speed of 927.5 MBps.

Comparatively, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373s benchmark result surpassed the benchmark test result of the Acer Spin 5. The Acer Spin 5 had a 476.8 MBps sequential read speed and 458.3 MBps sequential write speed.

Finally, due to the wonderful performance of this laptop’s storage, I will rate the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 a nine out of ten in this review section.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Graphics Card Performance

For the graphics card, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 offers two integrated graphics options. By integrated, I mean that the graphics card does not have a dedicated VRAM.

Hence, its graphics ability is limited compared to a dedicated graphics card with VRAM. For the graphics options available on the Dell Inspiron 13 7373, there is an Intel HD Graphics 620 graphic card.

This GPU has a base frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1150 MHz. There is also an Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640, which also has a base frequency of 300 MHz.

Additionally, the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 has a boost frequency of 1050 MHz. Meanwhile, I will be sharing the graphics performance of the Intel HD Graphics 620 graphic card.

I will start by highlighting that the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 is not a gaming laptop. Nevertheless, the laptop can still handle some light gaming tasks at low and medium settings.

In a 3Dmark ice storm benchmark, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 scored an impressive 80,845 points. 3DMark benchmark test is a synthetic benchmark that measures the graphics ability of a graphics card.

Comparatively, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373’s score is higher than the Lenovo Yoga 720’s score of 68,657 points. It is also higher than the ASUS Transformer Pro’s score of 55,348 points.

Importantly, the average category score in this test is 56,338 points which the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 exceeds. Furthermore, the notebook crossed the 30-frames-per-second playability setpoint in a Dirt 3 racing game test.

In the racing test, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 earned a score of 50 fps. Comparatively, this score falls below the 52 fps that the Lenovo Yoga 720 has.

However, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 had an impressive overall score. Hence, I will rate its graphics card an eight.

Dell Inspiron 7373: Battery Life and Performance

The Dell Inspiron 13 7373 is powered by a 3-cell, 38 Whrs Lithium-ion. However, Dell did not advertise the battery life of this laptop.

Nonetheless, I will share with you the battery life of the laptop according to a battery test carried out by notebookckeck.com.

The battery test involved continuously surfing the internet using WiFi. Consequently, the laptop lasted only 5 hours before it shut down.

Unfortunately, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373s battery life is below its category threshold of 8 hours and 16 minutes. This is not impressive as most light, and thin laptops deliver almost double the Inspiron 13 7373’s battery life.

In comparison, the HP Spectre x360 outperformed the Dell Inspiron 13 7373. The HP Spectre x360 lasted 10 hours and 6 minutes in the same battery test.

Finally, based on the battery performance of the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 in the test, I will rate it a seven.
