This Itechguide teaches you how to clear Gmail search history.

As at the time of writing this Itechguide, there is no option to clear search history from Gmail.com. This option is only available for the Android and iPhone apps.

Option 1: Clear Search History via the Android App

  • Open the Gmail app on your Android device.

  • Then, on the top left of the app, tap the Android app’s menu (3 horizontal lines). A set of menu options will be displayed on the left of your phone’s screen.

  • Scroll down towards the bottom of the displayed menu options and tap Settings.

  • Then, on the app’s settings screen, tap General settings.

  • Finally, on the top right of the General settings screen, tap the menu icon (3 vertical dots) and select Clear search history. The Gmail app will display a delete confirmation pop-up.
  • On the bottom right of the Clear search history confirmation pop-up window, tap Clear.

Option 2: Clear Search History from the iPhone App

  • Open the Gmail app on your iPhone.

  • Then, on the top left of the app, tap the iPhone app’s menu icon (3 horizontal lines). A set of menu options will be displayed on the left of your phone’s screen.

  • Scroll down towards the bottom of the displayed options and tap Settings.
  • Then, on the Settings screen, tap the Gmail email account you want to clear history for.
  • Finally, when the email account settings open, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap Clear search history (the last item on the screen). The app will display a final confirmation pop-up.
  • On the bottom right of the Clear search history confirmation pop-up, tap Clear.
