No—not with one documented switch that guarantees every AI feature in Microsoft Edge is off. You can hide Copilot’s toolbar and sidebar entry points, stop Copilot from using webpage context, and turn off Copilot Mode if the option appears. Those controls affect different things. On managed work or school devices, an administrator can use Edge policies for broader control, but hiding a button alone does not disable every AI capability.
What does “disable all AI features” mean in Edge?
Edge does not document a single master setting that disables every current and future AI capability. The available controls have different scopes: some hide where you open Copilot, one limits the browser information Copilot can use, and Copilot Mode is a separate browsing experience with its own control.
That distinction matters. If your goal is a less cluttered toolbar, hiding the Copilot button may be enough. If your concern is Copilot using information about the page you are viewing, you need the context setting as well. If you need controls enforced across a work or school browser, check policy rather than relying on personal settings.
Microsoft says feature availability and behavior can vary by Edge version, market, account, and policy. Menu names and options may therefore differ from the labels below.

How do I remove Copilot from Edge?
In a personal profile, use Edge’s Copilot settings to hide the toolbar button and, where available, turn off sidebar visibility. This removes or reduces the visible ways to open Copilot; it is not a comprehensive AI shutdown.
- Open Settings in Edge.
- Look for Copilot and AI or Copilot and Sidebar. The section name can vary.
- Under the Copilot app settings, turn off Show Copilot button on the toolbar.
- If the page offers sidebar visibility controls, turn those off too.
The toolbar option removes the Copilot entry point from the toolbar. Sidebar controls affect the sidebar, which can also contain Copilot Chat entry points. Neither setting, by itself, establishes that every separate AI feature is disabled.
How do I stop Edge Copilot from reading my pages?
Turn off the setting labeled Allow Copilot to read context clues on the web, or the closest equivalent shown in your version of Edge. This is the relevant personal-profile control for limiting Copilot’s use of browsing context; it does not uninstall Copilot.

- Open Settings and go to Copilot and AI or Copilot and Sidebar.
- Find the Copilot setting for reading context clues on the web.
- Turn it off.
Microsoft describes the information covered by this control as the current webpage, its title, open tabs, and browser history when Copilot generates responses. This is a context-access control, not a setting that removes the Copilot interface or governs every separate AI feature.
How do I turn off Copilot Mode in Edge?
If your Edge installation exposes AI innovations or Copilot Mode in Settings, turn Copilot Mode off there. It is separate from the toolbar and page-context controls, so check for it even if you have already hidden Copilot’s button.
Microsoft describes Copilot Mode as off by default and under the user’s control. The setting may not appear for every version, market, account, or policy configuration. Its absence alone does not establish whether other Copilot settings are enabled.

What does each Edge AI control actually change?
Use the control that matches your goal. The settings are not interchangeable, and a hidden entry point should not be mistaken for a disabled feature.

How can an administrator control Copilot on a work or school device?
Administrators can review Edge’s applied policies at edge://policy. Microsoft lists policy settings for Copilot availability, page context, and sidebar behavior; their scope is broader than simply hiding a personal toolbar button.

Why is the Copilot toggle missing in Edge?
A missing option can reflect management, version, or availability—not necessarily a problem with the browser. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance points users to policy status, browser updates, and account or regional availability.
- Check whether the browser is managed. Open
edge://policyand review the applied policies. An organization may control the relevant setting. - Update Edge. The setting may depend on browser version, and Microsoft can add or rename AI controls.
- Check account and regional availability. Copilot features and settings are not available in the same way for every account or market.
- Look for a differently named settings section. Search Settings for Copilot and AI or Copilot and Sidebar, and check for AI innovations if you are looking for Copilot Mode.
Because availability varies, a missing Copilot Mode control and a missing toolbar control do not necessarily have the same explanation. Check the specific feature you want to change.
Will these settings disable every AI capability in Edge?
No documented combination of the personal controls above guarantees that all present and future AI features are disabled.
