CBR is an archive convention, not a guarantee that every app will decode every file identically. If you control the files and a CBR archive repeatedly fails, test the archive on a computer and consider converting a known-good copy to CBZ. Do not simply rename an extension unless you know the underlying archive format; renaming does not repair a corrupt or password-protected file.
How do you import comics on an iPhone or iPad?
The exact button labels vary by app version, but the general iOS workflow is consistent:
- Save the CBZ, CBR, PDF, or EPUB file to the Files app, iCloud Drive, or a cloud service supported by the reader.
- Open the reader’s import command or use the iOS Share sheet to send the file to the reader.
- Choose the target app and confirm that the comic appears in the library.
- Download the comic inside the reader if the app treats the cloud copy as on-demand.
- Open a page, a large file, a double-page spread, and—if relevant—a CBR file before importing the entire collection.
Panels documents iCloud Drive and OPDS support. Chunky can import from iCloud Drive and several cloud services, while its Pro upgrade adds computer shares, FTP/SFTP, ComicStreamer, Calibre, Ubooquity, and related server features.
What should you do when a comic will not import?
- Re-download the file in case the first download was incomplete.
- Confirm that the file is not password-protected.
- Check the archive on a computer for corruption.
- Remove unusual nested folders if the reader shows a blank or incomplete book.
- Convert a known-good CBR copy to CBZ on a computer if CBR decoding remains unreliable.
- Try a smaller test file before moving a large collection.
Do not assume that a file stored in iCloud will automatically be available to every app. iCloud storage, app import support, and reading-progress synchronization are separate capabilities.
