The standard iPhone 18 may not launch in September 2026. Current reporting points to a split iPhone 18 generation: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected first, in September 2026, while the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may follow in spring 2027.

Apple has not officially announced the iPhone 18. Its official iPhone newsroom currently lists the iPhone 17 family and iPhone 17e, not an iPhone 18 release date, price or specification. Everything about the next generation in this article is therefore a forecast or rumour unless explicitly identified as an official iPhone 17 comparison.

iPhone 18 rumours: the short version

As of August 9, 2026, the most credible expectation is that Apple will no longer launch every iPhone 18 model at the same September event. Reports from TechCrunch, 9to5Mac, Bloomberg-linked coverage and Apple-focused publications broadly point towards the following schedule:

Question Best current answer
Is the iPhone 18 official? No. Apple has not announced it.
Which models are expected first? iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and possibly Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
When could the Pro models arrive? September 2026, with September 8 or 9 discussed as possible announcement dates.
When could the regular iPhone 18 arrive? Spring 2027, potentially March or April.
Expected standard-model price Approximately $799–$899 in the US, with $849–$899 appearing in some forecasts.
Expected Pro price Possibly unchanged, or $100–$200 higher depending on component costs and Apple’s pricing decision.
Expected chip A20 for lower-cost models and A20 Pro for the Pro models, reportedly based on TSMC’s N2 process.
Most interesting possible upgrades A smaller Dynamic Island, a variable-aperture camera and Apple’s second-generation custom modem.
Biggest uncertainties The split launch, pricing, RAM capacity, the extent of the Dynamic Island redesign and US modem hardware.

The practical implication is important: do not wait for September 2026 expecting the regular iPhone 18. If the current reports are correct, September is primarily the launch window for the high-end iPhone 18 Pro models.

Expected iPhone 18 release date and launch schedule

When will the iPhone 18 Pro be announced?

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are widely expected to be announced in September 2026. September 8 and September 9 have been mentioned in reporting, including a MacRumors report that attributes the timing to Apple’s usual schedule and reporting from Mark Gurman.

#1 Best Overall

Possible Pro launch timeline

Stage Current expectation Status
Announcement September 8 or 9, 2026 Reported forecast; not confirmed by Apple
Pre-orders Possibly the Friday after the event Based on Apple’s recent pattern
Retail availability Possibly around Friday, September 18, 2026 Estimated; not confirmed

Apple announced the iPhone 17 on September 9, 2025, opened pre-orders on September 12 and began retail sales on September 19. That pattern supports a similar September cadence for the iPhone 18 Pro, but it does not prove that Apple will repeat it. The official reference is Apple’s iPhone 17 announcement.

When will the regular iPhone 18 launch?

The standard iPhone 18 is currently expected in spring 2027, potentially in March or April. The iPhone 18e is expected to arrive alongside it. If that happens, the regular iPhone 17 could remain Apple’s newest mainstream iPhone throughout the 2026 holiday season and for roughly 18 months after its September 2025 launch.

This would be a significant departure from Apple’s traditional annual September cycle. It also explains why some apparently conflicting reports are both discussing an iPhone 18 launch: one may mean the iPhone 18 generation, particularly the Pro models, while another means the standard iPhone 18.

The exact spring date is not credible enough to publish as a firm March release. Apple has not confirmed the event, pre-order or retail schedule, and availability could differ between the US and other countries.

Which iPhone 18 models are expected?

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max

These are the most consistently reported fall 2026 models. They are expected to retain Apple’s two Pro sizes:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • iPhone 18 Pro: approximately 6.3 inches.
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max: approximately 6.9 inches.

The Pro models are expected to be the main showcase for the A20 Pro chip, camera changes, display refinements and possibly the second-generation Apple modem.

Standard iPhone 18

The regular iPhone 18 is expected in spring 2027 rather than September 2026. Current reports suggest it may continue with a display broadly similar to the iPhone 17, possibly including a 6.3-inch panel and 120Hz ProMotion.

That would make the regular model more attractive than older non-Pro iPhones, but the largest design and camera changes may remain reserved for the Pro range.

iPhone 18e

The iPhone 18e is also expected in spring 2027 and should remain below the standard iPhone 18 in price. Reports have suggested a 9GB RAM configuration, a display around 6.1 inches or an updated Dynamic Island design, and potentially no Camera Control. These details are not confirmed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

iPhone Air 2

An updated iPhone Air appears in some reports, but its timing is unresolved. Some coverage places a second-generation Air in the fall 2026 launch group, while other reports put it alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in spring 2027. It should not be treated as a confirmed member of either launch.

Foldable iPhone or iPhone Ultra

Apple is also widely rumoured to be preparing its first foldable iPhone, possibly marketed as an iPhone Ultra. It may appear with the Pro models in September 2026, although confidence in its precise branding and launch timing is lower than for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

The foldable should be considered related launch context, not another name for the standard iPhone 18. Rumoured prices of more than $2,000 for a foldable device should not be confused with forecasts for the iPhone 18 Pro.

How much will the iPhone 18 cost?

No iPhone 18 price is official. The safest way to assess the rumours is to start with Apple’s current US prices before sales tax:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Current model Official US starting price Entry storage
iPhone 17 $799 256GB
iPhone 17 Pro $1,099 256GB
iPhone 17 Pro Max $1,199 256GB
iPhone 17e $599 Current entry configuration

These prices are listed by Apple in its iPhone 17 store, iPhone 17 Pro store and official iPhone 17 announcement.

Current iPhone 18 price scenarios

Model Conservative estimate Higher-cost possibility How to interpret it
iPhone 18 $799–$899 — Some reporting estimates $849–$899; this is not a leak confirmed by Apple.
iPhone 18e $599–$699 — Expected to remain below the standard iPhone 18.
iPhone 18 Pro $1,099–$1,199 Approximately $1,249–$1,299 The lower end assumes pricing stays close to the iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone 18 Pro Max $1,199–$1,299 Possibly around $1,399 $1,399 is a high-price forecast, not the most reliable expected price.

Price reports conflict. Analyst Jeff Pu has reportedly expected Apple to keep Pro pricing near the iPhone 17 Pro levels, while IDC has modelled a possible $100 increase and later suggested that the increase could reach $200. MacRumors’ price analysis discusses these competing scenarios, while Macworld has estimated the standard iPhone 18 at approximately $849–$899 and the iPhone 18e at $649–$699.

Rank #2
Apple iPhone 17, US Version, 256GB, eSIM, Mist Blue- Unlocked (Renewed Premium)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Memory and component costs are among the main explanations for a possible increase. Advanced chip supply, tariffs, manufacturing location, storage tiers and Apple’s margin decisions could all affect the final price.

What could make the real cost lower or higher?

  • Trade-in credit: Apple and carriers may reduce the effective cost for an eligible phone.
  • Launch promotions: Carrier deals can be more generous than Apple’s direct price, but may require a plan, bill credits or a trade-in.
  • Storage: The entry price normally applies only to the smallest storage option. If storage tiers change, comparing headline prices can be misleading.
  • Regional pricing: Prices outside the US can include VAT or sales tax, currency adjustments, tariffs and different modem configurations.
  • Launch stock: Limited first-week inventory could reduce the availability of the cheapest promotional deals.

iPhone 18 chip: A20 and A20 Pro

The dominant chip rumour is that the iPhone 18 family will use Apple’s A20 generation:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e: expected A20.
  • iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: expected A20 Pro.
  • Foldable iPhone: rumoured to use the standard A20 rather than A20 Pro.

These chips are reportedly intended to use TSMC’s second-generation 2nm-class N2 process. TSMC’s 2025 annual report says N2 entered high-volume manufacturing in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is ramping in 2026. That makes a 2026 Apple device using the process technically plausible, but it does not confirm which Apple chips or models will receive it.

Some coverage predicts up to 15% faster performance and 30% better power efficiency compared with A19. Those are process-based projections, not verified iPhone 18 benchmark results. A smaller manufacturing process can improve efficiency and performance potential, but the final result also depends on Apple’s chip design, clock speeds, thermal limits and software.

How much RAM will the iPhone 18 have?

RAM is one of the least settled iPhone 18 specifications. Apple does not normally list RAM capacity in its public iPhone technical specifications, and current reports disagree:

Model Reported RAM Confidence
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max 12GB Medium
Standard iPhone 18 9GB or 12GB Low to medium
iPhone 18e 9GB Low to medium

Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly forecast 9GB for the lower-cost iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, while other reports have predicted 12GB for the standard model and Pro models. MacRumors’ feature analysis and Macworld’s standard-model report cover the conflicting claims.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

More RAM could help with Apple Intelligence, keeping more apps active, high-resolution photo and video processing, gaming and future iOS features. However, RAM capacity alone does not determine speed. Apple’s hardware and software integration means a 9GB iPhone would not automatically be slow or incompatible with future iOS versions.

Display and Dynamic Island rumours

Pro and Pro Max displays

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain the current Pro sizes:

  • Approximately 6.3 inches for the Pro.
  • Approximately 6.9 inches for the Pro Max.
  • OLED panels.
  • ProMotion adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz.
  • Dynamic Island.

These are already features of the iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple’s official iPhone 17 Pro specifications list 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, ProMotion up to 120Hz and peak outdoor brightness up to 3,000 nits. The iPhone 18 Pro upgrade is therefore more likely to be refinement than a new screen size.

Could the Dynamic Island become smaller?

A smaller Dynamic Island is one of the more persistent iPhone 18 Pro rumours. Some leakers have suggested that Apple may move part of the Face ID system under the display, reducing the visible front cut-out. Other reports, including claims associated with Digital Chat Station, suggest that the appearance may remain broadly similar and that fully under-display Face ID could be delayed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The sensible conclusion is:

  • A smaller or less prominent Dynamic Island is plausible but unconfirmed.
  • Partial relocation of Face ID components is possible but uncertain.
  • A completely hole-free display should not be treated as an expected iPhone 18 feature.

Macworld’s iPhone 18 Pro report summarises the competing display claims.

Standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e displays

The standard iPhone 18 may use a display broadly similar to the iPhone 17, including a 6.3-inch size and 120Hz ProMotion according to current reporting. The iPhone 18e could use a 6.1-inch display or receive an updated Dynamic Island design, but the precise difference between the lower-cost models remains unsettled.

Camera upgrades: variable aperture is the key rumour

Variable-aperture main camera

The most significant camera rumour is a variable-aperture main camera, potentially on both Pro models or possibly reserved for the Pro Max.

A variable aperture would allow the lens to admit more or less light. In practical terms, it could help the camera:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Control exposure in bright scenes.
  • Admit more light in suitable low-light conditions.
  • Create more natural depth-of-field effects.
  • Give photographers greater control over portraits and video.

This would be a meaningful hardware change, but it remains a rumour. The Pro Max is the model to watch if the feature is limited to one iPhone, although nobody should buy based on it until Apple demonstrates the camera or publishes its specifications.

Other possible camera changes

Reports have also mentioned:

  • A 24MP front-facing camera on some or all iPhone 18 models.
  • A larger main-camera sensor.
  • Improved low-light performance.
  • A stacked camera sensor.
  • A wider-aperture telephoto camera.
  • Continued 48MP main and ultrawide cameras.
  • A simplified Camera Control component on the standard iPhone 18.

The 24MP front-camera claim has appeared more than once, but it is not official. The iPhone 17 generation uses an 18MP Center Stage front camera, so 24MP would represent an increase if the rumour is accurate. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro specification page is the appropriate baseline rather than leaked iPhone 18 figures.

  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Could Camera Control be downgraded?

One report says the iPhone 18 Camera Control could retain pressure sensing while dropping capacitive sensing. That could reduce cost, but it might also remove or limit some swipe and gesture functions. The iPhone 18e may omit Camera Control altogether.

This is a cost and usability trade-off rather than a confirmed specification. It is particularly relevant to buyers comparing the standard iPhone 18 with the Pro models.

Modem, 5G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Apple C2 modem

The iPhone 18 generation is widely expected to introduce Apple’s second-generation custom cellular modem, commonly referred to as C2. Potential benefits include:

  • Improved power efficiency.
  • Tighter integration with Apple silicon.
  • Better cellular performance.
  • Possible support for satellite or other non-terrestrial networks.
  • Less reliance on Qualcomm.

Apple has already introduced its own C1 and C1X modem technology in selected recent devices, including the iPhone 17e. Apple’s iPhone 17e announcement and iPhone 17e specifications provide the official context.

Could US iPhone 18 Pro models use Qualcomm?

US buyers should not assume that every iPhone 18 Pro will have the same modem hardware. A report based on an alleged Tata Electronics data leak suggested that US iPhone 18 Pro models may retain Qualcomm modem components for mmWave 5G, while international versions may use Apple’s C2 modem.

This claim is especially uncertain: MacRumors reported that it did not directly inspect the allegedly stolen files. It should therefore be treated as an unverified, region-specific rumour, not as evidence that Apple has finalised separate modem configurations. The MacRumors report explains the claim and its limitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the phones are official, US buyers should check Apple’s regional model numbers and technical specifications for modem type, mmWave support, eSIM configuration and network bands.

Wireless standards

The iPhone 17 Pro already supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and Apple’s N1 wireless chip. Current reporting expects the iPhone 18 family to retain broadly similar wireless functionality rather than introduce a major N2 replacement. Any claimed improvement should be verified against the final regional specification sheet.

Battery life: likely better, but not yet measurable

The likely direction is improved efficiency, but there is no reliable iPhone 18 battery-life result yet. Possible contributors include:

  • The more efficient A20 and A20 Pro chips.
  • A larger Pro Max battery.
  • More efficient display technology.
  • Apple’s C2 modem in some markets.

Leaked capacity figures vary significantly, with reports ranging from approximately 5,235mAh to more than 5,500mAh for the Pro Max depending on region and SIM configuration. Apple has not published those figures, so numbers such as 5,425mAh or 5,567mAh should not be presented as confirmed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The better comparison point is Apple’s official rated video playback: up to 33 hours on the iPhone 17 Pro and up to 39 hours on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Those figures appear on Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro technical specifications. The iPhone 18 may improve on them, but only testing and Apple’s final ratings will establish how much.

Design, materials and colours

The most consistent design expectation is an evolutionary one rather than a complete redesign. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to have:

  • A similar overall shape to the iPhone 17 Pro.
  • The same approximate 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes.
  • A raised rear camera plateau.
  • Likely continued aluminium construction.
  • Possible changes to the proportions of the camera bump.
  • Potentially a smaller Dynamic Island.

Rumour reports and alleged dummy-unit images have mentioned Dark Cherry, light blue, dark grey and silver. These colours are not confirmed. Apple can change colour names or remove a finish before launch, so treat Dark Cherry as a leaked possibility rather than an announced option.

Rumour confidence guide

The following assessment separates repeated reporting from details that remain especially speculative:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Claim Confidence Why it matters
Pro models launch in September 2026 Strongly reported Multiple reports point to a split release, but Apple has not confirmed it.
Standard iPhone 18 and 18e launch in spring 2027 Credible but unconfirmed The schedule is increasingly consistent across reports, but there is no Apple date.
A20 and A20 Pro chips Credible but unconfirmed Repeated supply-chain claims and TSMC’s N2 timetable make it plausible.
12GB RAM in Pro models Medium Reported more than once, but Apple does not publish RAM and lower-model reports conflict.
Smaller Dynamic Island Medium Several reports support it, while others say the visible design may remain similar.
Variable-aperture camera Medium A prominent Pro camera rumour, possibly limited to the Pro Max.
C2 modem in the generation Medium Widely expected, but regional Qualcomm hardware may complicate the picture.
Specific battery capacities Low Leaked figures vary by source, region and SIM configuration.
Fully under-display Face ID Low Long-running future-iPhone speculation; not established for iPhone 18.
Dark Cherry colour Low to medium Appears in multiple leaks and alleged dummy units, but colours are easy to change before launch.

iPhone 18 versus iPhone 17: what would actually change?

A complete iPhone 18 specification table would be misleading because Apple has not published one. The more useful comparison is between known iPhone 17 hardware and the changes currently being reported:

Category Official iPhone 17 baseline iPhone 18 expectation
Standard release timing Announced September 9, 2025; retail sales began September 19, 2025. Standard model expected in spring 2027; Pro models expected in September 2026.
Standard starting price $799 with 256GB. Estimated around $799–$899 in the US.
Pro starting prices $1,099 for Pro and $1,199 for Pro Max. Could stay similar or rise by $100–$200.
Pro chip A19 Pro. Expected A20 Pro, reportedly on a 2nm-class process.
Pro displays 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED, ProMotion up to 120Hz. Likely similar sizes and refresh rate, with possible display-cut-out refinement.
Pro cameras 48MP main, ultrawide and telephoto; 18MP Center Stage front camera. Possible variable aperture, larger sensor and 24MP front camera.
Connectivity Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and N1 wireless chip. Likely similar wireless standards, with possible C2 modem and regional differences.
Battery Up to 33 hours video playback on Pro and 39 hours on Pro Max. Potentially better efficiency and a larger Pro Max battery, but unverified.

The official iPhone 17 specification baseline comes from Apple’s iPhone 17 announcement and iPhone 17 Pro specification page. This comparison shows why the iPhone 18 Pro may be a worthwhile upgrade for camera and efficiency enthusiasts, but it does not prove that every rumoured feature will arrive.

Should you wait for the iPhone 18?

Buy now if you need a phone before September

The iPhone 17 is not automatically a poor purchase because the iPhone 18 Pro is approaching. It already offers a 6.3-inch display, 256GB starting storage, the A19 chip, 48MP main and ultrawide cameras and an 18MP Center Stage front camera. The iPhone 17 Pro adds ProMotion, the Pro camera system, A19 Pro and up to 33 hours of rated video playback.

Buy now if your current phone is failing, you can secure a strong trade-in or the iPhone 17 price falls during a promotion. Waiting several months for an unconfirmed product is not worthwhile when you need a reliable phone today.

Wait for September if you want the newest Pro model

Waiting makes sense for buyers who specifically want the latest high-end iPhone, a possible variable-aperture camera, a newer chip, improved efficiency or a smaller Dynamic Island. The trade-off is uncertainty over launch stock, regional hardware, final specifications and price.

Wait until spring 2027 if you want the regular iPhone 18

If you want the standard iPhone 18 rather than a Pro model, September 2026 may not help. Current reporting points to spring 2027 for the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. The downside is that you would wait considerably longer and may miss iPhone 17 discounts or a useful trade-in opportunity.

Choose the Pro Max if camera and battery matter most

The Pro Max is the most interesting model for camera and battery buyers because the variable-aperture camera could be exclusive to it and because reports suggest a larger battery. Neither feature is confirmed, so the right approach is to wait for Apple’s camera specifications and real-world testing rather than pre-order solely on the rumour.

Wait for official US modem details if 5G matters

US buyers who care about mmWave 5G or modem efficiency should wait for Apple’s regional model numbers and technical specifications. The reported Qualcomm-versus-C2 split has not been verified, and international reviews may not represent the US hardware.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Be cautious if your budget is fixed

Do not budget only for the $1,099 iPhone 17 Pro price. The iPhone 18 Pro could remain at that level, but forecasts also allow for a $100–$200 increase. Add the cost of storage, sales tax and any accessories, and do not assume a launch carrier promotion will be available in your country.

If you already own an iPhone 17

An upgrade is difficult to justify from rumours alone. The iPhone 18 Pro may bring a better camera, chip and efficiency, but the display sizes, 120Hz ProMotion, USB-C, Wi-Fi 7 and much of the overall design may remain familiar. Wait for verified camera samples, battery testing and a clear price difference before replacing a still-capable iPhone 17.

If you own an iPhone 15 or older

The decision is more favourable to waiting if your phone still works, because the iPhone 18 generation could deliver a larger generational improvement in processing, camera hardware, connectivity and battery efficiency. Buy the iPhone 17 now if you need the upgrade sooner or find a substantial discount.

What could delay or complicate the launch?

Reports have raised concerns about memory, advanced-chip and component availability. Apple CEO Tim Cook was reportedly asked about supply constraints during the company’s third-quarter 2026 earnings discussion, and separate coverage has suggested that memory and advanced-chip availability could affect the fall launch. Apple’s investor earnings-call page is the official place to check the company’s published call materials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This does not prove that an iPhone 18 Pro shortage will occur. It does mean that first-week delivery dates may be less predictable than usual if component constraints affect production. Buyers should be prepared for:

  • Longer delivery estimates for popular storage or colour combinations.
  • Different release dates in different countries.
  • Some models launching before others.
  • Carrier promotions changing after the first allocation sells out.
  • Prices or storage configurations differing from early forecasts.

What to check when Apple makes the iPhone 18 official

  1. Confirm the model and launch date: Check whether Apple has announced the standard iPhone 18, the Pro models or only part of the family.
  2. Check the US and international specifications separately: Look for model numbers, modem type, mmWave support, SIM configuration and supported bands.
  3. Compare rated battery life: Use Apple’s official video-playback figures rather than leaked milliamp-hour capacities.
  4. Check every storage tier: The entry price may apply to a smaller capacity than the one you actually need.
  5. Look for camera limitations: Confirm which model receives variable aperture, the front-camera resolution and the actual functions of Camera Control.
  6. Compare trade-in terms: A carrier’s headline discount may depend on a specific plan and monthly bill credits.
  7. Wait for independent testing: This is especially important for battery life, modem performance, heat, camera quality and the practical value of the A20 chip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the standard iPhone 18 launching in September 2026?

Probably not, based on current reporting. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected in September 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are currently expected in spring 2027. Apple has not confirmed either schedule.

How much will the iPhone 18 Pro cost?

No price is official. The iPhone 18 Pro could remain near the iPhone 17 Pro’s $1,099 US starting price, but forecasts also allow for approximately $1,249–$1,299. The Pro Max could start near $1,199 or rise towards $1,399 in a higher-cost scenario.

Will every iPhone 18 use Apple’s C2 modem?

That is not known. C2 is widely rumoured for the iPhone 18 generation, but an unverified report suggests that some US iPhone 18 Pro models could retain Qualcomm hardware for mmWave 5G. Apple’s regional specifications will be needed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I buy an iPhone 17 or wait for the iPhone 18?

Buy the iPhone 17 if you need a phone now or find a strong discount. Wait for the iPhone 18 Pro if you want the newest high-end camera and chip and can accept uncertain pricing. If you want the regular iPhone 18, be prepared to wait until spring 2027.

The Bottom Line

The iPhone 18 is not official yet, and the name hides an important split. Current evidence points to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max arriving first in September 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may not arrive until spring 2027.

Wait for the Pro launch if you want the latest camera, chip and possible battery improvements. Buy the iPhone 17 if you need a phone before then or can find a substantial deal. Do not treat $1,299 pricing, 12GB RAM, under-display Face ID, a variable-aperture camera or the C2 modem as guaranteed until Apple publishes the final specifications.
