There is no single best email marketing service in 2026. For most beginners and small businesses, MailerLite is the simplest starting point, while Brevo is usually the better value for occasional, high-volume, or multichannel sending. Klaviyo, Omnisend, and Drip are better choices for ecommerce; ActiveCampaign and HubSpot fit advanced automation and CRM-led marketing; and Kit or beehiiv make more sense when the newsletter itself is the business.
This comparison covers all 14 services in the shortlist, but it does not pretend that a newsletter editor, ecommerce CRM, creator publishing platform, and B2B marketing suite are interchangeable. Choose by business model first, then compare the total cost at your actual contact count and sending volume.
Updated October 1, 2026: We added EmailOctopus to the shortlist. Prices and plan limits below were checked against official provider pages available on August 10, 2026; the EmailOctopus details were checked on October 1, 2026. Prices can vary by country, currency, billing term, audience size, promotional period, taxes, SMS usage, seats, onboarding, and add-ons.
- Best for simple newsletters: MailerLite
- Best low-cost multichannel and transactional option: Brevo
- Best budget pick for growing newsletter lists: EmailOctopus
- Best for small organizations needing phone support: Constant Contact
- Best for ecommerce: Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Drip, depending on complexity and budget
- Best for advanced automation: ActiveCampaign
- Best CRM-linked B2B marketing: HubSpot Marketing Hub
- Best for creators and authors: Kit
- Best for paid newsletter businesses: beehiiv
- Best for webinars and funnels: GetResponse
Quick comparison
The table is deliberately more detailed than a list of monthly starting prices. A low price may apply only to a small audience, a particular annual-billing term, or email volume that does not match your needs.

What an email marketing service actually is
Email marketing software is a delivery and audience-management system, but different products emphasize different jobs:
- Newsletter and broadcast platforms help you write and send regular campaigns, manage subscribers, build forms, and review clicks. MailerLite, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and AWeber fit here.
- Marketing automation platforms add multi-step workflows, conditions, tags, lead scoring, and behavioral triggers. ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, Brevo, and Moosend are examples.
- Ecommerce lifecycle platforms ingest product views, carts, purchases, refunds, and customer properties. Klaviyo, Omnisend, and Drip are designed around this data.
- CRM-based marketing suites connect marketing activity to sales pipelines, customer records, service data, permissions, and reporting. HubSpot is the clearest example in this list.
- Creator newsletter platforms treat publishing, subscriber growth, paid subscriptions, recommendations, and digital products as core features. Kit and beehiiv belong in this category.
- Transactional email systems send password resets, receipts, account alerts, and API-triggered messages. These are operational messages, not promotional newsletters. Brevo has native transactional email; Moosend and ActiveCampaign offer it through an add-on or separate configuration. Some newsletter platforms require a separate provider.
The practical consequence is important: Klaviyo may be a poor choice for a weekly blog newsletter, while MailerLite may be a poor choice for a store with complex product and purchase events. Neither is necessarily “better”; they solve different problems.
The 14 best services, with the right buyer for each
1. Brevo: best for low-cost multichannel sending and transactional email
Choose Brevo if: you send irregularly, have a large stored list but modest daily volume, need email and SMS or WhatsApp in one account, or want marketing and transactional email under the same provider.
Brevo’s pricing is unusual among mainstream email tools because the free plan allows up to 100,000 stored contacts but limits sending to 300 emails per day. The official pricing documentation lists Starter from $9 per month and Standard from $18 per month. This can be attractive for a 10,000-contact organization that sends one or two campaigns a month, but less attractive if you need a large campaign delivered immediately because the daily cap becomes the constraint. See the official Brevo plan details.
Brevo combines campaign sending, forms, automation, CRM features, transactional email, SMS, and WhatsApp. Its most useful advantage is not a particular template or dashboard; it is the ability to price email largely by volume rather than treating every stored contact as equally expensive. The free plan also includes transactional email and SMS, although channel usage and limits still matter.
Watch for: lower tiers have daily or automation restrictions, and removing Brevo branding on Starter costs extra. It is a strong general-purpose choice, but advanced CRM data modeling and ecommerce analytics are not as deep as HubSpot or Klaviyo.
Best alternatives: MailerLite for a cleaner newsletter-only experience; Omnisend for store-centric email and SMS; Mailchimp for a familiar editor and ecosystem.
2. MailerLite: best for simple newsletters and small-business websites
Choose MailerLite if: you want to create newsletters, forms, landing pages, lightweight automations, and digital products without learning an enterprise system.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The free plan supports up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. The pricing page and billing documentation available for this review show new plans introduced on June 16, 2026: Comfort starts at $12 per month and Power at $25 per month. Check the current calculator for your list size rather than assuming those are the prices for every audience.
MailerLite is a good default for bloggers, consultants, local businesses, and WordPress sites that need attractive forms and landing pages plus basic welcome and nurture sequences. The interface is generally easier to approach than a CRM suite, and its visual automations cover common paths such as form submission, waiting, tagging, and follow-up.
The important billing detail is that MailerLite uses active subscribers for billing. A paid account can automatically move to the next subscriber tier when it exceeds its limit, so a viral signup week can affect the next invoice. That is not a reason to avoid the service, but it is a reason to monitor the active-subscriber count and clean up invalid or unwanted records.
Watch for: its CRM, lead scoring, and ecommerce event model are lighter than ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Klaviyo, or Drip. It is best when simplicity is a feature, not when you need a complex customer-data operation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. EmailOctopus: best for low-cost newsletters as your list grows
Choose EmailOctopus if: you mainly send newsletters and announcements, want a clean editor with forms, landing pages, and simple automated sequences, and need the cost to stay low as your audience grows.
EmailOctopus has a permanent free Starter plan for up to 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month, with no time limit and no card required. That is ten times the subscriber allowance of MailerLite’s free plan. The pricing page available for this review lists Pro from $9 per month on yearly billing, and the price rises with your subscriber count, so price your actual list size before comparing it with other services.
It suits bloggers, startups, small businesses, and nonprofits whose email program is mostly regular campaigns rather than complex lifecycle marketing. The drag-and-drop editor and templates that adapt to your brand colors keep production quick, while custom fields and tags let you segment and personalize by what subscribers told you or how they behave. Pro removes EmailOctopus branding, keeps reports permanently, and adds unlimited landing pages, forms, and team members. Nonprofits receive a 20% lifetime discount.
The important billing detail is that the price follows your contact count. When a list outgrows its tier, EmailOctopus moves the account to the plan that fits the new size and notifies you by email, so keep inactive and invalid contacts under control. There is no free trial of Pro; the free plan is the way to test the product.

Its automation, CRM, and ecommerce event depth are lighter than ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Drip, so it fits newsletter-led programs better than data-heavy lifecycle marketing.
Best alternative: MailerLite if you also want digital products and a website builder; Brevo if you need transactional email or SMS alongside newsletters.
4. Constant Contact: best for support-oriented small organizations and events
Choose Constant Contact if: phone support, templates, events, social tools, and a low learning curve matter more than advanced branching automation.
The official pricing page currently displays Lite at $8.40 per month, Standard at $24.50, and Premium at $56. Send limits are 10 times, 12 times, and 24 times the contact count respectively. For example, a 1,000-contact account would receive a nominal monthly send allowance of 10,000, 12,000, or 24,000 emails depending on the plan. Verify the exact allowance and renewal price for your location before subscribing: Constant Contact does not offer a permanent free plan.
Constant Contact remains practical for nonprofits, clubs, local organizations, event organizers, and small businesses where staff may need human help. Its templates, event functionality, social publishing tools, and phone/chat support reduce setup friction.

Watch for: more sophisticated workflows with multiple branches, behavioral scoring, ecommerce events, or detailed exit conditions are generally better handled by ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Klaviyo, or Omnisend.
Best alternative: MailerLite if price and modern landing-page tools matter more; AWeber if RSS publishing and a mature blogger workflow matter more.
5. AWeber: best for bloggers and RSS-driven newsletters
Choose AWeber if: you want a mature service with RSS-to-email, forms, tagging, ecommerce features, web push, and conventional newsletter workflows.
At 500 subscribers, AWeber’s official pricing shows Lite at $15 per month or $150 per year and Plus at $30 per month or $240 per year. These figures are audience-based and should not be compared directly with Brevo’s send-based pricing or Klaviyo’s active-profile pricing. See AWeber’s pricing page.
AWeber is a sensible option for bloggers who want to turn an RSS feed into recurring emails, and for small businesses that prefer a long-established interface and support model. It also offers forms, tagging, and ecommerce-related capabilities without forcing the user into a full CRM.
Watch for: contact-based pricing can become costly as a list grows. Some templates and workflows feel less modern than MailerLite, and advanced conditional automation is not its main differentiator.
6. Drip: best for ecommerce behavioral automation
Choose Drip if: your marketing decisions depend on what customers viewed, added to a cart, bought, did not buy, or bought repeatedly.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Drip’s official pricing is dynamic. Do not rely on an old comparison table quoting a universal $39 starting price; calculate the current quote using the subscriber or customer tier at Drip’s pricing page.
Drip is an ecommerce CRM rather than a general newsletter editor. Its strengths are purchase behavior, product activity, abandoned-cart workflows, segmentation, and revenue attribution. A useful Drip evaluation should include product-view, cart, purchase, post-purchase, repeat-purchase, and revenue-reporting tests—not only a three-email welcome sequence.
Watch for: it has a higher starting cost and more complexity than a newsletter-first platform. If you operate a small store with basic abandoned-cart needs, Omnisend may offer a more approachable starting point. If you need predictive analytics and a very deep event model, Klaviyo may be the stronger fit.
7. HubSpot Marketing Hub: best for CRM-linked B2B marketing
Choose HubSpot if: marketing must share contact records, lifecycle stages, forms, conversations, sales activity, reporting, and lead handoffs with a CRM.

Those headline prices do not describe the full cost of a serious implementation. Contact tiers, marketing send limits, seats, onboarding, and other HubSpot products can materially change the bill. Consult the official pricing page for the exact configuration.
HubSpot is compelling when the question is not merely “can I send a newsletter?” but “which leads received which content, reached which lifecycle stage, spoke with sales, and converted?” Its CRM, forms, chat, segmentation, personalization, reporting, and sales alignment are the reason to choose it.
Watch for: the jump from Starter to Professional is substantial. A small company that only needs a monthly newsletter will likely pay for capabilities it does not use. ActiveCampaign is often a more focused automation choice; MailerLite or Brevo is usually more economical for basic campaigns.
8. Omnisend: best for Shopify and WooCommerce stores that need practical automation
Choose Omnisend if: you operate an online store and want product blocks, cart recovery, email, SMS, and push notifications without building an enterprise data operation.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Omnisend’s 2026 plan documentation lists a free plan with 500 emails per month to up to 250 unique contacts. Standard starts at $16 per month and Pro at $59. Standard email credits equal billable contacts multiplied by 12; Pro includes unlimited email. The pricing rules matter because Omnisend counts subscribers and certain non-subscribers, including some abandoned-cart and ecommerce contacts, toward billing. New paid customers after May 4, 2026 need Pro for SMS. See the current Omnisend plan documentation.
Omnisend is particularly useful for Shopify and WooCommerce merchants that need store events to trigger browse-abandonment, cart, purchase, replenishment, and post-purchase messages. Its product picker and ecommerce templates can shorten campaign creation compared with a generic editor.
Watch for: calculate cost using total billable contacts, not only opted-in newsletter subscribers. Klaviyo is usually the stronger choice for advanced data science and predictive segments; Drip is a strong alternative for behavior-led ecommerce CRM.
9. Klaviyo: best for data-rich ecommerce lifecycle marketing
Choose Klaviyo if: your store depends on detailed event data, sophisticated segments, predictive insights, product recommendations, and revenue attribution.
Recommended Free Tools
Klaviyo’s free plan supports up to 250 active profiles, 500 monthly email sends, and 150 SMS/MMS credits. The official pricing page available for this comparison displays Email starting at $45 per month for 15,000 email sends. Unlike a simple subscriber count, an active-profile model and additional channel usage can make the cost rise quickly. Check the official calculator using your real active profiles, sends, and SMS contacts.
Klaviyo’s advantage is the event model: product views, carts, purchases, refunds, catalog information, and customer properties can feed detailed segments and flows. Its predictive analytics and revenue reporting are especially useful for a store with enough order volume to benefit from those signals.

Watch for: the free allowance is small for a serious store, and adding profiles or SMS can increase costs rapidly. Do not select Klaviyo merely because it is popular; if you send a weekly newsletter to a modest audience, MailerLite or Brevo may be a better fit.
Best alternative: Omnisend for a more approachable store-focused platform; Drip for ecommerce CRM and behavioral workflows.

10. Moosend: best budget alternative for visual automation
Choose Moosend if: you want visual workflows and ecommerce triggers at a potentially lower cost, and you can live with a smaller integration ecosystem.
Moosend offers a 30-day trial without a credit card. Its official pricing page describes unlimited campaigns and sends during the trial for up to 1,000 contacts. Paid pricing is dynamic, so older articles quoting a fixed monthly amount should not be treated as current. See Moosend’s pricing page.
The platform includes visual automation, landing pages, heatmaps, ecommerce triggers, and AI product recommendations. It can be a useful middle ground between a basic newsletter tool and a large automation suite.
Moosend also supports transactional email through SMTP/API as an add-on or higher-level configuration. Confirm the exact product, quota, and price before using it for receipts or password resets.

11. ActiveCampaign: best for advanced automation and lead nurturing
Choose ActiveCampaign if: the central problem is complex, branching automation across marketing, sales, and customer behavior.
ActiveCampaign’s current pricing page uses Starter, Plus, Pro, and Enterprise plans with dynamic contact-based pricing rather than one stable universal starting price. Get a quote based on contacts, users, channels, and add-ons at ActiveCampaign’s official pricing page.
Its strengths include multi-step conditional logic, tags and fields, CRM, lead scoring, ecommerce integrations, AI tools, and a large library of automation recipes. It is well suited to lead nurturing such as: form submission, immediate welcome email, a two-day wait, a click-based branch, a sales notification, a goal or purchase exit, and a later re-entry trigger.
ActiveCampaign lists transactional email as an add-on, so do not assume that a marketing subscription automatically covers your application’s receipts or password resets.
Watch for: complexity, plan differences, add-ons, and contact-based billing. For a weekly newsletter, it can feel like using a sales-automation system to solve a publishing problem. HubSpot is the more natural alternative when the CRM is central; Brevo or MailerLite is more economical for simpler workflows.
12. GetResponse: best for webinars, funnels, courses, and broad marketing campaigns
Choose GetResponse if: you want email automation alongside landing pages, conversion funnels, webinars, courses, paid newsletters, or web push.
The official pricing page lists Starter at $19 per month, Marketer at $59, and Creator at $69. Annual-billing equivalents shown on the page are lower: $15.58, $48.38, and $56.58 per month respectively. Plans include unlimited monthly email sends, but features vary by tier. Verify the current audience-size quote at GetResponse pricing.
GetResponse is one of the broader all-in-one choices in this list. It can be useful for a course business or webinar funnel that would otherwise require several connected tools.
Watch for: the breadth can make the product feel bulky, and valuable webinar, course, and advanced funnel features may require Marketer or Creator rather than Starter. MailerLite is simpler for newsletters; beehiiv or Kit is more focused for publication-led creators.
13. beehiiv: best for professional newsletter and media businesses
Choose beehiiv if: the publication is the product and you care about subscriber growth, referrals, recommendations, advertising, paid subscriptions, and a publication website.
The Launch plan is free for up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends. Scale costs $43 per month or $517 annually, and Max costs $96 per month or $1,151 annually. Check the official beehiiv plans because the important difference is not only subscriber count; paid subscriptions, referral tools, ad-network features, and advanced publication functionality vary by tier.
beehiiv is built around newsletter publishing rather than conventional CRM marketing. Its referral network, recommendations, ad network, paid subscriptions, digital products, website, and newsletter analytics can help a media business grow and monetize without assembling those pieces separately.
Watch for: it is not a full ecommerce lifecycle platform or B2B CRM. If you need purchase-triggered flows, lead scoring, or complex branching automation, look at Klaviyo, Drip, ActiveCampaign, or HubSpot instead.
14. Kit: best for authors, podcasters, and digital-product creators
Choose Kit if: you build a personal audience and want forms, sequences, recommendations, digital products, paid newsletters, and straightforward subscriber segmentation.

- Wide Compatibility: The laptop stand for desk is compatible with all laptops from 10" up to 17.3", including popular models like MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Surface Laptop, Dell XPS, Google Pixelbook, HP, ASUS, Acer, Chromebook, Alienware, etc.
- Adjustable & Portable Design: The laptop riser can be easily adjusted to comfortable height and angle based on your actual need. Besides, you also can fold the laptop stand up to carry around for travel and business trips or store it in your laptop bag.
- Upgrade Large Base: Made of high-quality aluminum alloy, the larger heavier base greatly improves the stability of the notebook stand. The laptop stand will never shaking, sliding and falling when you type on your laptop with this notebook holder.
- Ergonomic Design: The MacBook air pro stand holder works as a raiser to elevate the laptop screen to your eye level. The office computer stand let you fix posture and relieves neck, shoulder and spinal pain, it's very comfortable for working at home, office and outdoor, make typing more easier.
- Heat Dissipation: The multiple ventilation holes offers better ventilation and more airflow to cool your laptop and prevent from overheating and crashes. Anti-skid silicone and smooth edge can protects your laptop from sliding and scratches.
Kit’s free Newsletter Plan supports up to 10,000 active unique subscribers and unlimited sends. It includes forms, landing pages, digital products, and one basic visual automation with one sequence. The official free-plan documentation explains those restrictions. Paid plans start at $39 per month for Creator and $79 for Creator Pro for up to 1,000 subscribers, according to the paid-plan comparison.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →That free audience limit is unusually generous for a creator platform, but it should not be confused with unlimited automation. Kit also offers free migration for paid creators, but confirm what is included before moving forms, tags, sequences, templates, and historical data.
Watch for: its design controls and reporting are less specialized than ecommerce platforms, and the free automation limits become important as a business grows.
What the free plans really provide
“Free” describes several very different products. Before importing your list, check five separate limits: audience definition, monthly sends, daily sends, automation, and branding.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Service | What the free option actually means | Important restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Brevo | Stores up to 100,000 contacts | Only 300 emails per day; storage is not unlimited free sending |
| MailerLite | 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails per month | A small list can use the entire allowance with one active newsletter schedule |
| EmailOctopus | Up to 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month, with no time limit | EmailOctopus branding on emails, reports kept for 30 days, and one user, landing page, and form |
| Mailchimp | 250 contacts and 500 emails per month | 250 daily sends and several contact types count toward the limit |
| Kit | Up to 10,000 active unique subscribers and unlimited sends | Only one basic visual automation and one sequence on the free plan |
| beehiiv | Up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends | Paid-subscription and advanced publication features are reserved for paid plans |
| Klaviyo | Up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends, and 150 SMS/MMS credits | Designed as a constrained introduction to a profile- and channel-based product |
| Moosend | 30-day trial, no credit card, up to 1,000 contacts | A trial is not a permanent free plan |
Also check whether free accounts retain provider branding, include live support, permit multiple seats or audiences, require manual approval, include transactional sending, and pause sending when a limit is exceeded. Brevo, for example, may be a better free storage option than Mailchimp, but a 300-per-day ceiling can make it unsuitable for a large launch.
How pricing models differ
Never compare “starts at $X” prices without recording the assumptions. Email platforms commonly use one or more of these models:
- Contact-based: the bill rises with the number of stored or subscribed contacts. AWeber, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, and many Mailchimp plans use this approach in some form.
- Active-profile-based: only profiles considered active or marketable are included, as with Klaviyo. The exact definition still matters.
- Billable-contact-based: ecommerce contacts that are not newsletter subscribers may count. Omnisend is an important example.
- Email-volume-based: the bill is tied primarily to how many messages you send. Brevo is the clearest example.
- Combined contact-and-send pricing: the audience size sets a tier and the tier includes a monthly or daily allowance. Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and Omnisend require this kind of calculation.
- Pay-as-you-go credits: useful when sending is irregular, but check whether automation, expiration, or transactional messages use separate credits.
- Channel add-ons: SMS, WhatsApp, push, transactional email, dedicated IPs, premium templates, extra seats, and onboarding may be billed separately.
- Annual-billing discounts: a displayed monthly equivalent may require paying for a full year. GetResponse, AWeber, beehiiv, and others show annual options.
For an honest quote, record your country and currency, contact or active-profile count, monthly email volume, peak daily volume, SMS recipients and messages, number of users, billing term, automation tier, transactional requirements, onboarding, and tax treatment. Also ask what happens when you cross a limit. MailerLite can automatically move a paid account to a higher subscriber tier; Omnisend can count certain non-subscribers; Mailchimp counts several contact types even when they are not receiving campaigns.
Use the same scenarios for every quote
Instead of comparing unrelated starting prices, price these scenarios:

- High-volume publisher: 25,000 contacts and 250,000 emails per month.
- Ecommerce: 5,000 marketing subscribers, 20,000 total billable contacts including non-subscribers, 50,000 monthly email sends, and a defined SMS volume.
For each quote, write down whether the amount is promotional, whether annual payment is required, and whether it includes the automation, seats, SMS, transactional email, and integrations you actually need. A low newsletter price is not a low ecommerce price if the store needs event tracking, product feeds, cart recovery, and SMS.
Campaign builders: what to evaluate beyond templates
A platform with hundreds of templates can still be frustrating if you cannot create a clean campaign quickly. During a trial, evaluate:
- Drag-and-drop, plain-text, and HTML editing
- Reusable content blocks and global brand styles
- Mobile preview, inbox preview, and dark-mode behavior
- Image hosting, resizing, compression, and alt-text controls
- Dynamic content, product blocks, countdowns, and custom fonts
- Conditional visibility and personalization fallbacks
- Link checking, accessibility controls, undo, and version history
- Rendering in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and Yahoo
MailerLite, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and AWeber are natural places to start when campaign creation is the main job. Ecommerce platforms add product blocks and store data. Creator platforms emphasize writing and publishing. HubSpot and ActiveCampaign prioritize data and workflow connections over being the fastest place to design a beautiful one-off newsletter.
Automation and segmentation: the workflow that separates tools
Ask whether the service can complete this exact workflow:
- A visitor submits a form.
- The system sends an immediate welcome email.
- It waits two days.
- It branches based on whether the subscriber clicked.
- It adds a tag or custom field.
- It sends a different follow-up.
- A purchase removes the person from the sequence.
- A different trigger can re-enter the person later.
- A time-zone or send-time condition changes delivery.
- An unsubscribe, bounce, or failed integration is visible in the automation history.
Then compare trigger types, event tracking, branching logic, waits, goals, exit conditions, re-entry rules, multiple concurrent sequences, lead scoring, predictive sending, ecommerce events, webhooks, API triggers, SMS or WhatsApp branches, error handling, and debugging history.
Tags alone do not equal a sophisticated segmentation system. Look for static lists, dynamic segments, event-based and purchase-based conditions, engagement segments, predictive segments, conditional content, preference centers, suppression segments, and a global unsubscribe model. Klaviyo and Drip are built around event and product data; ActiveCampaign and HubSpot are stronger for complex lifecycle logic; MailerLite and Kit are often enough for straightforward welcome, launch, and product sequences.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Deliverability: what can and cannot be tested
No email service can guarantee inbox placement. Delivery depends on the sender’s domain and IP reputation, authentication, list quality, complaint rate, content, consistency, volume, warm-up, and recipient engagement. A small test to Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and Apple Mail can reveal setup problems, but it cannot prove that one provider has a platform-wide 98% inbox rate.
For that reason, this comparison does not assign a universal deliverability score based on an undocumented seed test. A defensible editorial test would disclose the sending domain and age, seed addresses, message content, number and dates of sends, authentication status, warm-up history, inbox/promotions/spam placement, and repeated results. It should also distinguish provider infrastructure claims from results for a real production domain.
Authentication checklist
- Authenticate a domain you control with SPF and DKIM.
- Publish DMARC and monitor reports before tightening the policy.
- Use a recognizable From address on your business domain, not a free Gmail or Outlook address.
- Separate marketing and transactional streams, preferably with distinct subdomains.
- Keep bounce and complaint suppression enabled.
- Use a visible unsubscribe link and, where applicable, one-click unsubscribe headers.
- Warm a new domain or dedicated IP gradually rather than moving an old list and immediately sending at full volume.
- Remove or suppress persistently unengaged recipients.
- Monitor Google Postmaster Tools when eligible and review Yahoo sender requirements.
Gmail classifies senders that approach 5,000 messages in 24 hours to personal Gmail accounts as bulk senders. Its guidance requires bulk senders to use SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and one-click unsubscribe for marketing messages, and recommends keeping user-reported spam below 0.3%. Gmail began ramping up enforcement on non-compliant traffic in November 2025. Read the Gmail sender FAQ and sender guidelines.
Yahoo also requires authentication, a functioning list-unsubscribe mechanism for bulk senders, visible unsubscribe options, and a spam rate below 0.3%. Yahoo recommends separating bulk marketing from transactional or user mail; its sender best practices explain the requirements.
One-click unsubscribe is not merely a footer link. RFC 8058 specifies the List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post headers and requires a valid DKIM signature covering those headers.
Marketing email is not transactional email
Newsletters, promotional campaigns, and automated marketing sequences are different from order confirmations, receipts, password resets, account alerts, and API-triggered messages.

Before choosing one platform for both, check whether transactional delivery is native, an add-on, SMTP-based, API-only, or handled by a separate product. You should also ask whether the provider offers separate transactional subdomains, suppression management, delivery logs, and independent reputation controls.
Brevo explicitly includes transactional email and SMS on its free plan. Moosend provides transactional email through SMTP/API as an add-on or higher-level configuration. ActiveCampaign lists transactional email as an add-on. A newsletter platform can still be excellent for marketing and unsuitable for reliable password resets.
Integrations: count events, not logos
A directory claiming hundreds of integrations does not tell you whether the integration provides the data your automation needs. For WordPress and ecommerce sites, check:
- WordPress and WooCommerce
- Shopify and BigCommerce
- Stripe and PayPal
- Zapier and Make
- Salesforce, HubSpot CRM, and Pipedrive
- Google Analytics and Meta
- Webinar, course, membership, and lead-magnet platforms
For each connection, verify whether it is native or third-party, real-time or scheduled, available on your plan, and able to map custom fields correctly. Test whether purchases trigger flows, unsubscribes synchronize back, failed events are visible, and deleting data in one system affects the other.
Recommended Free Tools
WordPress users should separate four questions: does the service connect to a WordPress form, does it connect to WooCommerce events, can it accept API or webhook data, and does it preserve unsubscribe status? MailerLite and Brevo are strong starting points for ordinary WordPress newsletters and forms. WooCommerce stores should evaluate Omnisend, Klaviyo, Drip, or a suitable integration for actual purchase and cart events rather than selecting based only on the existence of a WordPress plugin.
Analytics in 2026: do not optimize for opens alone
Useful reporting should include delivered messages, bounces, unsubscribes, complaints, clicks, click-to-open rate, conversions, revenue attribution, automation performance, segment performance, device, geography, and time trends.
Open rates are increasingly noisy because of Apple Mail Privacy Protection, Gmail image caching, automated security scanners, bot clicks, and provider-specific tracking. Compare clicks, click-to-open trends, conversions, revenue, complaints, unsubscribes, and engaged-recipient counts. Also check attribution windows: two platforms can report different revenue for the same order simply because one credits a longer period or counts assisted conversions.

Compliance and consent are configuration responsibilities
An email platform can provide unsubscribe buttons, suppression lists, consent fields, and authentication settings, but it cannot make an entire marketing program legally compliant by itself.
For US commercial email, the FTC’s CAN-SPAM guidance requires accurate header information, non-deceptive subject lines, identification of commercial messages, a valid physical postal address, an opt-out mechanism, prompt opt-out handling, and oversight of vendors sending on your behalf. The FTC says opt-out requests must be honored within 10 business days.
For UK individual subscribers, the ICO’s PECR guidance generally requires consent before unsolicited electronic-mail marketing, subject to limited exceptions such as the soft opt-in. Consent should be specific, informed, affirmative, and not based on pre-ticked boxes or silence.
Keep the consent source and date, distinguish marketing permission from account or transactional communication, honor global unsubscribes, and do not import purchased or scraped addresses. If your audience spans jurisdictions, obtain appropriate legal advice rather than relying on a provider’s “GDPR compliant” marketing claim.
Migration checklist: move platforms without damaging your list
Switching is worthwhile when rising contact costs, weak automation, poor integration, or inadequate reporting is limiting the business. It is not worthwhile merely because another editor has a more attractive template gallery.
- Export active subscribers with email addresses, names, tags, custom fields, segments, and engagement data where available.
- Export suppression data including unsubscribes, hard bounces, complaints, and global do-not-contact records.
- Preserve consent evidence such as source, date, form, wording, and jurisdictional information.
- Map fields before importing: do not assume a tag, date, consent flag, or purchase field has the same name or data type in the new platform.
- Rebuild forms and landing pages and replace embedded WordPress forms, popups, and lead magnets.
- Draw every automation including triggers, waits, branches, goals, exit conditions, re-entry rules, and purchase suppressions.
- Authenticate the new sending domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC before sending to the main list.
- Prevent duplicate welcomes: decide whether imported contacts should enter the welcome sequence and test the rule with a dummy address.
- Warm the new stream: begin with engaged recipients and increase volume gradually instead of sending immediately to every dormant contact.
- Test unsubscribe, bounce, complaint, and purchase events before switching live forms and store triggers.
- Run a controlled parallel check using the same message, links, sender identity, and seed inboxes where appropriate.
- Keep the old account available until forms, automations, integrations, suppression behavior, and reporting have been verified.
Export templates, automation maps, integration credentials, and historical reports where the provider allows it. Historical revenue attribution often does not migrate cleanly, so save reports before closing the old account.
How to perform a fair hands-on comparison
If you are choosing between two finalists, use the same test rather than trusting generic ratings:
- Create a fresh account and authenticate one dedicated test subdomain.
- Use one controlled, permission-based test list and identical sender identity, copy, links, images, and form fields.
- Create a signup form, welcome email, three-email sequence, and engaged-clicker segment.
- Send tests to Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and Apple Mail, then record inbox, promotions, or spam placement without calling the result a platform-wide deliverability benchmark.
- Test mobile rendering, unsubscribe behavior, one-click headers, CSV import/export, and one relevant integration.
- Ask each support team the same technical question and record response time and completeness.
- For ecommerce services, add product view, add-to-cart, abandoned-cart, purchase, post-purchase, repeat-purchase, recommendation, coupon, and revenue-attribution tests.
- Record the time required, blocked steps, confusing labels, missing events, and plan restrictions.
Do not use purchased or scraped addresses. A small seed test is useful for finding configuration failures, not for declaring one provider the universal deliverability winner.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which email marketing service is best for most beginners?
MailerLite is the best starting point when you mainly need newsletters, forms, landing pages, and simple automations. Brevo is a better first choice when you send irregularly, need transactional email, or want SMS and WhatsApp alongside email.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Is Brevo really free for 100,000 contacts?
Brevo’s free plan allows up to 100,000 stored contacts, but it limits email sending to 300 messages per day. That is free storage, not unlimited free sending, and the daily cap may be too restrictive for a large campaign.
Should an ecommerce store choose Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Drip?
Choose Klaviyo for sophisticated event data, predictive analytics, and detailed revenue reporting; Omnisend for practical Shopify or WooCommerce email, SMS, and push workflows; and Drip for ecommerce CRM and behavioral automation. Mailchimp is more general-purpose and may be adequate for simpler stores.
Can one platform send both newsletters and password-reset emails?
Sometimes. Brevo explicitly supports transactional email, while Moosend and ActiveCampaign offer transactional capabilities through an add-on or specific SMTP/API configuration. Confirm separation, suppression handling, API limits, and pricing before using a marketing platform for operational messages.
Is a free email marketing plan enough for a business?
It can be enough for a small newsletter with modest sending and simple automation. Free plans become less suitable when you need multiple sequences, advanced segmentation, branding removal, several users, phone support, SMS, ecommerce events, or high daily volume. Compare the exact audience and send limits rather than the word free.
How can I improve inbox placement after switching providers?
Authenticate your domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC; preserve consent and suppression data; send first to engaged recipients; increase volume gradually; keep marketing separate from transactional traffic; make unsubscribe easy; and monitor bounces, complaints, clicks, and engagement. No provider can compensate for a poor list or a damaged sender reputation.
The Bottom Line
Choose the platform that matches the data and workflow behind your email program. MailerLite is the safest simple-newsletter recommendation; Brevo is the strongest low-cost, high-volume, and transactional choice; EmailOctopus keeps newsletter costs low as a list grows; Constant Contact is attractive when support and events matter; Klaviyo, Omnisend, and Drip are ecommerce tools; ActiveCampaign and HubSpot are automation and CRM systems; and Kit or beehiiv are creator-publishing platforms.
Before subscribing, price the same audience and send-volume scenario across your finalists, authenticate a test domain, verify the integrations that matter, and test unsubscribe and automation exit behavior. That process is more reliable than choosing the lowest advertised monthly number or a universal “best” ranking.
