The right smartwatch depends less on its screen than on the phone in your pocket, the health features you actually need, and how often you want to charge it. Apple Watch remains the safest choice for iPhone owners, while Pixel Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch8 are the strongest general Android options. Garmin, Amazfit, and Withings make more sense if training data or battery life matters more than apps. For children, remember that both Fitbit Ace LTE and Garmin Bounce 2 require paid cellular subscriptions.
This list uses U.S. prices and manufacturer specifications available on August 9, 2026. Battery figures are not directly comparable: some assume always-on display, while others use power-saving settings or lighter usage.

1. Apple Watch Series 11 — best iPhone smartwatch for most people
Price: starts at $399.
Apple Watch Series 11 is the straightforward recommendation for most iPhone owners. It combines an always-on display with ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, sleep tracking, and hypertension notifications where those features are cleared and available. It is also the easiest option here for Apple services, iPhone notifications, and apps.
Apple rates it for up to 24 hours of battery life, or up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. That is adequate for overnight sleep tracking, but it still requires much more frequent charging than Garmin, Amazfit, or Withings models.

Important compatibility: Series 11 requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. It is not an Android-compatible smartwatch.
2. Apple Watch Ultra 3 — best rugged iPhone watch
Price: starts at $799.
Ultra 3 is the Apple Watch for hiking, outdoor work, water activities, and users who want a larger, tougher case. Its 49mm titanium case, 3,000-nit display, 100-meter water resistance, 10 ATM rating, IP6X dust resistance, and EN13319 recreational-diving certification make it substantially more rugged than the standard model.
Battery life is rated at up to 42 hours normally and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. The trade-offs are its size, weight, and price. It still requires an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later.
3. Apple Watch SE 3 — best lower-cost Apple Watch
Price: starts at $249.
The SE 3 is the practical entry point to Apple Watch. It gives iPhone users the core smartwatch experience at $150 less than Series 11, making it suitable for notifications, activity tracking, workouts, and basic safety features.
Apple rates its battery for up to 18 hours, or up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode. Do not assume it has every health feature found on Series 11 or Ultra 3: the SE 3 does not include the full higher-end feature set, so check Apple’s comparison table before buying it specifically for ECG or hypertension notifications.
4. Google Pixel Watch 4 — best general Wear OS watch
Price: starts at $349.99.
Pixel Watch 4 is the cleanest general-purpose choice for Android users who want Google’s software and a compact, polished watch. It runs Wear OS 6, includes dual-frequency GPS, has a 3,000-nit Actua 360 display, and supports satellite SOS communication.
The 41mm version is rated for up to 30 hours with the always-on display enabled; the 45mm version reaches up to 40 hours under the stated conditions. Google guarantees software updates through at least October 2028.

LTE is not automatically independent: calling, messaging, and data require an LTE plan, and Google says the watch and companion phone must use the same carrier network for full functionality.
5. Samsung Galaxy Watch8 — best for Samsung and Android integration
Price: $349.99 for 40mm Bluetooth; $379.99 for 44mm Bluetooth. LTE versions cost $399.99 and $429.99.
Galaxy Watch8 is the better choice than Pixel Watch 4 for people already using a Samsung phone and Samsung Health. It runs Wear OS 6 and offers dual-frequency GPS, up to 3,000-nit brightness, 5 ATM water resistance, IP68 protection, and MIL-STD-810H durability.
Samsung Health features include Energy Score, sleep-apnea detection, Bedtime Guidance, Running Coach, ECG, and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications. Availability can depend on your country, phone model, regulatory approval, and Samsung Health Monitor requirements. Treat these as wellness and screening tools, not a diagnosis.
6. Garmin Venu 4 — best health-and-fitness lifestyle watch
Price: starts at $549.99.
Venu 4 is aimed at users who want substantial training and recovery information without buying a specialist running watch. Its feature set includes HRV Status, Body Battery, Training Readiness, wrist-based running dynamics, Garmin Pay, onboard music, a speaker and microphone, and an LED flashlight. The Garmin ECG App is supported only in eligible regions and is intended for adults 22 and older.
Garmin quotes up to 12 days in smartwatch mode for the larger model. With always-on display enabled, its own assumptions fall to up to four days for the 45mm model and three days for the 41mm model. That difference matters if you want a bright watch face all day.
7. Amazfit Balance 2 — best battery-per-dollar multisport watch
Price: $299.99 MSRP; the manufacturer store lists a $249.99 sale price at the time of research.
Balance 2 is compelling when battery life and workout breadth matter more than a large third-party app ecosystem. It has a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen, sapphire glass, more than 170 workout modes, downloadable maps, and dual-band GPS.

Amazfit quotes up to 21 days in typical use, 10 days with heavy use, or 33 hours in accurate GPS mode. A July 2026 update added HybridCharge, Next Hard Session, and official HYROX training templates. Those figures are unusually strong for the price, but GPS-heavy training will reduce them sharply.
8. Garmin Instinct Crossover AMOLED — best rugged hybrid with real hands
Instinct Crossover AMOLED combines physical analog hands with a digital display, giving it the appearance of a traditional field watch while retaining Garmin’s fitness and outdoor functions. It works with both Android and Apple devices and has a 10 ATM water rating.

Be careful when comparing versions: the AMOLED model is not the Solar model. It also uses a proprietary charger and has the normal AMOLED risk of image persistence. Garmin warns that static images shown at high brightness for long periods can cause temporary or persistent image retention. If you specifically want solar charging, check that the product listing says Solar.
9. Withings ScanWatch 2 — best health-focused hybrid watch
Price: about $369.95.
ScanWatch 2 looks like a conventional analog watch, with physical hands and a small grayscale OLED display. It focuses on health rather than apps, offering ECG, irregular-rhythm notifications, overnight temperature tracking, on-demand SpO₂, sleep tracking, and connected GPS.

Its quoted battery life of up to 35 days is the main reason to choose it. It supports iOS 16 and newer and Android 9 and newer. Setup requires the Withings mobile app; it cannot be set up from a computer.
This is not a full app smartwatch. It has notifications and health tracking, but not the same third-party app ecosystem, voice assistant, or standalone cellular operation as Apple Watch or Wear OS watches. GPS is connected through the phone rather than independent built-in GPS.

Price: about $179.95–$179.99, plus an Ace Pass subscription.
Ace LTE is designed around supervised communication and games. The paid Fitbit Ace Pass costs $9.99 per month or $119 per year and provides LTE, GPS location, calling, messaging, Fitbit Arcade, and software updates. The watch supports up to 20 contacts and is rated for 16-plus hours of battery life.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSetup requires a parent’s compatible phone, Wi-Fi, parent and child Google Accounts, and an active Ace Pass. It works with most phones running Android 11 or newer or iOS 16 or newer.
A common setup failure occurs when the phone has already paired with Ace LTE through ordinary Bluetooth. In that case, open the phone’s Bluetooth settings, forget the watch, and retry setup in the Fitbit Ace app. Ace LTE uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz Wi-Fi. The current product information refers to Google’s health software as the Google Health app, so older instructions that mention only the Fitbit app may not match current menus.
11. Garmin Bounce 2 — best kids’ watch for calling and location tracking
Price: $299.99, plus Garmin’s kids smartwatch plan listed at $9.99 per month.
Bounce 2 is more communication-focused than Ace LTE. It supports two-way calling, voice messages, text messaging, real-time location, geofencing, a full on-watch keyboard, activity tracking, and Amazon Music. Battery life is rated at up to two days.
LTE functions require the active subscription and suitable coverage. Location updates can lag because of weak LTE, building materials, Wi-Fi availability, or synchronization delays. Garmin recommends enabling Wi-Fi at frequently visited locations and regularly syncing with the Garmin Jr. app. Cellular service is not guaranteed simply because the watch has LTE hardware.
How to choose the right smartwatch
- Check phone compatibility first. iPhone owners should start with Apple Watch. Android owners can consider Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch, Garmin, Amazfit, or Withings. Pixel Watch 4 does not support iPhone.
- Decide whether apps or battery life matter more. Apple Watch and Wear OS offer the richest smartwatch ecosystems. Garmin, Amazfit, and Withings generally last longer between charges.
- Separate health tracking from medical care. ECG, sleep-apnea, blood-pressure-related, oxygen, temperature, and hypertension features may be region-limited or require regulatory clearance. They are not substitutes for professional diagnosis.
- Price the required subscription. Fitbit Ace LTE and Garmin Bounce 2 are not one-time purchases if you need LTE calling, messaging, or location tracking.
- Compare battery figures under matching conditions. Always-on display, GPS, LTE, music playback, and Low Power Mode can change endurance dramatically.
What about cellular setup for family use?
Cellular watches are not automatically independent phones. Carrier support, signal strength, region, and plan type all matter. Apple’s “For Your Kids” setup also has special requirements: a cellular-capable Apple Watch, a compatible iPhone for setup, Family Sharing, Apple Accounts, and two-factor authentication. Some features available with ordinary iPhone pairing are unavailable in this mode.

Amazfit Balance 2 quotes up to 21 days in typical use, Withings ScanWatch 2 quotes up to 35 days, and Garmin Venu 4 quotes up to 12 days in smartwatch mode. These figures use different test conditions, so GPS, LTE, and always-on display use will reduce endurance.

The Bottom Line
For most iPhone users, buy the Apple Watch Series 11; choose the Ultra 3 for rugged outdoor use and the SE 3 to spend less. Android users should compare the clean Google experience of the Pixel Watch 4 with the Samsung-focused features of the Galaxy Watch8. Pick the Garmin Venu 4 for training and recovery, the Amazfit Balance 2 for battery value, or the Withings ScanWatch 2 for a discreet health-focused hybrid. For children, budget for the required cellular subscription before choosing between Fitbit Ace LTE and Garmin Bounce 2.
