A Samsung phone update does not necessarily install games. Samsung describes Galaxy Store and Google Play app updates separately from device software updates, and a game appearing after an update does not by itself reveal what installed it. On some carrier-configured phones, users have reported carrier app-management services as a possible cause; that is not established as the explanation for every Galaxy device.
Why a game may appear after a Samsung update
The timing can make it look as if a phone’s software update installed a game, but several different events can happen close together. Samsung’s support guidance treats app-store updates and device software updates as distinct processes. Its installation troubleshooting discusses app accounts, compatibility, and installation-source settings; it does not say that Samsung system updates install games.
Samsung and Verizon community discussions include reports of games appearing after updates. Some users mention Galaxy Store or Verizon App Manager, but the discussions are anecdotal and do not establish what caused an installation on any particular phone. There is no representative figure showing how often this happens or what share of cases comes from Samsung, an app store, or a carrier.
Possible explanations to check
- An app-store event: Galaxy Store or Google Play may have updated an existing app. Samsung documents the stores as separate app-update routes, distinct from a phone’s operating-system update. Samsung’s app-update guidance notes that menu paths can vary by store version, Galaxy model, and software version.
- A carrier app manager or recommendation service: Community reports identify carrier app-management software as one possibility on some devices. Those reports do not establish a universal cause, or prove that a carrier service installed a game on your phone.
- An app that was already present becoming visible: A game may have been preinstalled or otherwise on the phone before the update and only become noticeable afterward. Check whether it is actually new rather than assuming the timing proves installation.
- A prompt or recommendation flow: A user may have accepted or misread an installation prompt. The available sources do not establish this as the cause in any individual case, so treat it as a possibility to investigate rather than a conclusion.
How to find out what happened on your phone
- Note the details. Write down the game’s name and when you noticed it. Consider whether it was newly installed or simply appeared in view after the update, and whether the timing has repeated after a particular update.
- Check the app entry. Open Settings > Apps and select the game. Check which controls are available. Menu names and available actions differ by model and software version.
- Review both app stores. Check app-update settings in Galaxy Store and Google Play separately. These are separate update routes. Turning off automatic updates in a store can affect updates to apps from that store, but the cited sources do not establish that it blocks a separate carrier service from installing new apps.
- Ask the carrier if its software seems involved. If the game appeared after a carrier-branded update or notification, ask the carrier to identify the installer or app manager for your specific phone. Verizon forum discussions mention Verizon App Manager in some cases, but that does not make it the cause on every Galaxy phone or carrier.

Can you remove or disable the game?
In Settings > Apps, open the game’s app information and use Uninstall if it is available. If not, check whether Disable is available. Some preinstalled or system apps cannot be uninstalled, and the controls shown can vary by device. Verizon’s device-specific guides describe app controls for selected models: uninstalling apps on Galaxy S25 models and disabling or enabling apps on the Galaxy A17 5G.
Be cautious about disabling system or carrier apps. Verizon warns that doing so can affect related functions. A control’s presence does not, by itself, identify the app responsible for installing a game.

What the reports do—and do not—show
Community posts document that people have reported unwanted games after updates, including discussions about Galaxy Store downloads, unknown apps downloading automatically, and games appearing after an update. They are user reports, not proof of the cause in an individual case or a measure of how common the problem is.
Accordingly, it is not established that Samsung intentionally installs games through its system updates, that every game appearing after an update was installed by a carrier, or that disabling one named service is a universal fix. The most useful evidence is the app entry on your phone, the update or notification that preceded it, and—if carrier software may be involved—the carrier’s identification of the installer for that device.
