After a OnePlus beta update, check the installed build and its own changelog first, then verify the phone behaviors that matter to you: notifications, app compatibility, privacy permissions, connectivity, and battery use. A beta update does not automatically mean your settings were reset. A change may be intentional, a temporary compatibility problem, or something specific to your model and build.
Start with the build, model, and changelog
Before changing settings, establish exactly what software is installed. OnePlus guidance is specific to the device, region, and release; a summary covering several phones may not describe the build on yours. The OnePlus May 2026 FAQ also notes that features and their timing can vary by device. Treat your phone’s release notes—or the official announcement for the exact model and region—as the reference for deciding whether a behavior is new or unexpected.
- Open Settings and look for the device information or software-version screen. Menu names and locations differ between OxygenOS versions, so use Settings search for terms such as “version” or “software update” if needed.
- Note the exact phone model, regional variant if known, OS version, and whether the installed software is a beta or public release. Do not rely on a generic update headline alone.
- Open the update details or changelog available for that device, or find the official OnePlus release announcement that matches its model, region, and build. Read both the listed changes and any known-issue notes.
- Compare the behavior you noticed with those notes before toggling settings. A documented change is not evidence of a reset or malfunction.
Instructions can also differ by regional software program. Some regional beta material uses ColorOS branding; that does not make its package or procedure interchangeable with an OxygenOS beta for another region. Follow instructions only when they explicitly cover your device and software channel.

Look at both the lock screen and the notification shade. Confirm that alerts you expect are visible, that they appear in the places you use, and that the gestures you normally rely on still behave as described in the changelog. If notifications seem missing, first distinguish between a changed way of opening the shade and a notification that is not arriving at all.

There is a documented example of an intentional gesture change: a OnePlus May 2026 FAQ about an OxygenOS 16 feature says, “Due to product design adjustments, the original swipe down gesture to expand the notification bar has been removed after the upgrade.” That statement concerns the FAQ’s feature question; it is not a universal description of every OnePlus model or OxygenOS 16 build. Check the matching notes for your own device rather than assuming the same gesture change applies.
- Lock the screen and check whether the apps you expect show notifications there.
- Unlock the phone and check whether the notification shade displays recent alerts.
- Try the gesture or control described in your build’s notes. If the interaction changed but alerts still arrive, treat it as a possible interface change rather than proof that notification settings were reset.
- If alerts are absent, inspect the relevant app’s notification permissions and settings before making broader system changes.
Test the apps you depend on
Open the apps you rely on for work, communication, payments, travel, and everyday tasks. OnePlus beta announcements warn that third-party apps may have compatibility problems after an upgrade. Examples include crashes, lag, black screens, and unusually high power use. These symptoms can point to app compatibility—not necessarily to a changed phone setting.

- Install available updates for the affected apps from their usual app store, then reopen them.
- Notice whether the problem happens in one app or across several. A single app failing while the rest of the phone behaves normally is a useful clue to investigate that app’s compatibility.
- Record the app name, what you were doing, and whether the problem began after the beta update. Check the beta announcement’s known issues for relevant guidance.
- If an app still crashes, lags, displays a black screen, or drains power unusually after its update, avoid treating a factory reset as the first fix. Report or troubleshoot the app issue using the applicable official guidance.
OnePlus beta posts recommend updating apps to reduce compatibility problems. That is a sensible first check, not a guarantee that every app will work correctly on a pre-release build.
Review privacy, connectivity, and battery behavior when something changes
These are practical checks for symptoms you actually notice, not settings that OnePlus says are routinely changed by every beta update. Avoid changing several controls at once: doing so makes it harder to identify whether a particular permission or connection caused the problem.

Privacy and permissions
If an app can suddenly access less—or appears to request access unexpectedly—review that app’s permissions in Settings and compare them with what you intended to allow. Confirm the app and permission involved before changing access. The available OnePlus guidance does not establish that beta upgrades universally alter privacy permissions.
Connectivity
If a network or connected device behaves differently, identify which connection is affected and whether the issue is limited to one app or occurs across the phone. Check the relevant connection controls and the build’s known-issue notes before resetting network settings or making other broad changes. The beta material cited here does not say that updates routinely reset connectivity settings.

Battery use
If battery behavior changes, look for a recently updated or misbehaving app and compare its activity with what you were doing. Excessive power use is one of the compatibility symptoms OnePlus identifies for third-party apps after beta upgrades. Do not assume a battery setting was reset solely because the phone uses more power.

Use the exact release notes and known-issue guidance for your build as the starting point. Then address the narrowest symptom: check the affected app if one app fails, its notification controls if its alerts are missing, or the relevant connection if only that connection is affected. Avoid moving directly to a factory reset; it can erase information and may not address a beta compatibility issue.

OnePlus has published a settings-reset remedy for a particular lock-screen password issue on some models. That limited advice distinguishes Reset all settings from Erase all data; it is not a general instruction to reset settings after every beta update. If the official guidance for your exact issue and model calls for the settings reset, verify the selected option carefully. Do not select “Erase all data” as a substitute.
Settings labels and routes vary by version, so do not assume a reset path shown for another OnePlus phone applies to yours. If the specific official remedy does not match your device or symptom, stop and use the model-specific support instructions rather than guessing at a reset option.
Understand the choices: stay on beta, troubleshoot, or roll back

Do not use a rollback package intended for another model or region. OnePlus’s warning about data loss is a reason to prepare before proceeding, not a reason to try an unofficial package or improvise a downgrade.

Back up before beta installation or any data-erasing action
OnePlus describes the beta as pre-release software and advises backing up important data before proceeding. A beta announcement may say an upgrade is designed not to clear data, but that is not a guarantee against every problem or every later recovery step. Keep a current backup before installing beta software, and make one before any rollback or other action that can erase the phone.
The operational requirements in OnePlus’s cited 2025 Open Beta announcement are specific to that OnePlus Open upgrade: it calls for battery above 30% and at least 4 GB of free storage. Those are not universal post-update settings to check, nor should they be assumed to apply to a different device or beta. For another model, use the requirements in that model’s own announcement.
