Chapter 10, “Shackled,” takes place in a temporary jail area in the City of Orphans. You can escape by following the main route, but leaving the jail permanently closes the area. To complete the optional Choir quest and recover your equipment, collect its notes and keys before entering the sewer exit.
What to know before escaping the jail
- The chapter is a one-way section: once you leave the jail, you cannot return.
- The Choir is optional, but its objectives are permanently missable if you exit first.
- Death inside the jail sends you back to your cell.
- Beyond consumables, the important items here are the Choir quest materials and the Armoury and Chapel keys.

Escape-only or complete the Choir?

Step-by-step Prison Escape walkthrough
1. Find the first Warden’s Journal note
Follow the initial linear path out of the cell area. On the left, enter the room containing a horn and pick up “Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One.” This starts The Choir. If you intend to complete the quest, do not pass through the jail’s final exit until every step below is finished.

Continue upward into the area patrolled by soldiers. Move along the long hallway and interact with the door at its end. This advances the next Choir objective. Patrol routes can vary by version, so use the rafters and cover rather than relying on a fixed enemy pattern.

3. Cross the rafters and take the Armoury Key
From the upper floor, follow the rafters toward the center. Drop into the kitchen and take the Armoury Key from the table. The key is not on the lower floor; searching the cells or main corridors will not reveal it.
4. Recover your equipment
Use the Armoury Key on the armoury door on the lower floor. Opening this room lets you recover the equipment taken from you at the start of the prison sequence.
5. Collect the second journal part
Return to the small room beside the Armoury Key and pick up “Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two.” Keep both journal entries; they are required for The Choir.
6. Obtain the Chapel Key
Cross to the opposite side of the upper floor. Enter the side room containing a memory and take the Key to the Chapel from the table.

7. Search the chapel
Go back to the chapel door and use the key. Behind the bodies, on the counter, collect “Letter to Headquarters – A List of Deceased Prisoners.” This is the final item needed inside the jail for The Choir.
8. Finish the escape route
Continue through the remaining jail section and descend into the sewer. Follow the route until you emerge back into the city. Once outside, the prison area is no longer available, so verify your inventory before crossing the point of no return.
How to complete The Choir
- Collect Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One in the horn room.
- Interact with the door at the end of the upper hallway.
- Take the Armoury Key from the upper-floor kitchen.
- Collect Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two from the adjacent small room.
- Take the Key to the Chapel from the memory room.
- Open the chapel and collect the deceased-prisoners letter.
- After the sewer exit, return to the city board beside the Lantern.
- Interact with the board and place the letter.
Placing the letter completes The Choir and awards a Remnant’s Return, according to PowerPyx.

If you missed an item
There is no return trip to the jail after you leave. If the chapel door is still locked, return to the upper-floor memory room and check the table for the Chapel Key. If your equipment is missing, revisit the lower-floor armoury after taking the key from the kitchen. If The Choir does not complete, continue to the city board beside the Lantern and place the letter manually; reaching the city alone does not finish the quest.
