Yes. Apple Music works on compatible Google Nest speakers and displays once you link the Apple Account that carries your Apple Music subscription in the Google Home app. Open Google Home → Settings (or Home settings) → Music → More music services → Apple Music → Link Account, authorize the account, and optionally select Apple Music under Your music services so ordinary playback requests use it automatically.
You need an Apple Music subscription, a compatible Assistant-enabled Nest device, and an iPhone, iPad, or Android device running Google Home with the Google account associated with that home. Availability is regional, and Google smart speakers and displays support one account per streaming service, so the account selected during setup matters.
Can Google Home play Apple Music?
It can, provided your speaker or display is a compatible Google Nest or other Google Assistant-enabled device, your Apple Music subscription is active, and Apple Music is available in your country or region. After account linking, Google Assistant can find and play Apple Music songs, albums, artists, genres, moods, activities, and playlists by voice.
The integration is an account connection rather than a Bluetooth-only workaround. Your Nest device receives the request through Google Home, uses the linked Apple Account for the catalog and personal library, and then streams the result. Apple notes that Apple Music on a Google Nest speaker or display is not available in every country or region, so the Apple Music option may be absent where the service is not supported.

Which Google devices are covered?
Google announced support for Apple Music on Nest Audio, Nest Hub Max, Nest Mini, and other compatible speakers and displays that run Google Assistant. The practical test is whether the device is supported by Google Home and appears in the home where you will link the service; a product name alone does not guarantee regional Apple Music availability.
What do I need before linking Apple Music?
Gather these items before opening the settings menu. Missing any one of them commonly produces a setup that appears complete but cannot start playback.
- An Apple Music subscription: Sign in with the Apple Account that actually has the subscription. A different Apple Account may authenticate successfully but lack access to the music you expect.
- A compatible Google Nest speaker or display: Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Nest Hub Max, and other Assistant-enabled models are included in Google’s supported-device announcement.
- A mobile device: Use an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet with the Google Home app installed.
- The correct Google account: Google Home must show the account associated with the home and Nest device you intend to control.
- A supported location: Apple says the integration varies by country and region. If Apple Music is not listed in Google Home, regional availability is one of the first things to check.
You do not need to make Apple Music the default to test the connection. Linking first lets you issue a request that explicitly names Apple Music; choosing it as the default is a separate preference.
How do I connect Apple Music to Google Home?
The linking flow takes place in the Google Home app. Menu wording can appear as Settings or Home settings, depending on the app version and whether you opened settings for a specific home.
- Open Google Home. On your iPhone, iPad, or Android device, launch the Google Home app.
- Check the active Google account. Look at the account shown in the app and confirm it is the one linked to the Nest speaker or display. If the wrong account is active, switch accounts before changing music settings.
- Open the home’s settings. Tap Settings or Home settings.
- Choose Music. This page lists the music providers Google Home can connect to in your location.
- Open More music services. Find the additional provider list rather than choosing an already-linked service.
- Select Apple Music. Tap the link control beside Apple Music, then choose Link Account.
- Authorize the Apple Account. Sign in with the Apple Account used for your Apple Music subscription and complete every onscreen authorization step. Return to Google Home when the authorization finishes.
- Test the link. Say
Hey Google, play “Bad Guy” on Apple Music, substituting a title you know is available. Naming the service in this first test removes ambiguity about which provider Google should use.
If Apple Music does not appear under More music services, do not substitute an unrelated account or assume the Nest hardware is defective. Check the region limitation, confirm that Google Home is signed in to the intended account, and then retry after updating or reopening the app.
How do I make Apple Music the default on Google Nest?
In Google Home, open the same Music settings page and select Apple Music under Your music services. Once selected, Google Assistant treats Apple Music as the provider for ordinary music requests, so you can usually omit the words “on Apple Music.”

The default applies to the Google account and home configuration you changed. It does not turn an Apple Music subscription into a Google account, and it does not add a second Apple Music account to the service list. Google’s support guidance says smart speakers and displays currently support one account per streaming service; if several people share a home, the linked account is the one Google Home has authorized.

When should I still name Apple Music?
Say the provider explicitly when testing the connection, when another music service is selected as the default, or when Google returns a result from the wrong provider. For example, use Hey Google, play “Kind of Blue” on Apple Music. Explicit provider naming is also useful after changing accounts or defaults because it distinguishes a catalog problem from a default-service problem.
What Apple Music requests can Google Assistant handle?
Voice search covers more than individual tracks. Google and Apple document requests for catalog items, personal collections, and playback controls, although recognition is more reliable when you include identifying details.
Play a song, album, artist, genre, mood, or activity
Hey Google, play “Levitating” by Dua Lipa.Hey Google, play the album “Random Access Memories.”Hey Google, play music by Radiohead.Hey Google, play jazz.Hey Google, play relaxing music.Hey Google, play music for a workout.
You can replace the examples with your own title, artist, genre, mood, or activity. If a short title matches multiple entries, add the artist or album in the same sentence.
Play your Apple Music library and playlists
Hey Google, play my songs.Hey Google, play my library.Hey Google, play my favorites.Hey Google, play “Sunday Drive” playlist.Hey Google, shuffle “Sunday Drive” playlist.
Personal-library requests depend on the Apple Account that was authorized. If a playlist belongs to a different Apple Account, linking the current account will not make that playlist appear.

| Goal | Example phrase |

| Replay content | Hey Google, play it again |
| Repeat | Hey Google, repeat on or Hey Google, repeat off |
| Rate the track | Hey Google, I like this song or Hey Google, I dislike this song |
Commands such as “previous” and “back” operate on the active Apple Music session. If Google starts a different service, first identify Apple Music in the request or correct the default provider.

Why is Google Home not playing my Apple Music?
Most failures fall into a small number of branches: the account link is stale, the wrong Google account is active, the request is ambiguous, or the integration is unavailable in the current region. Work through the branch that matches what you see rather than repeatedly repeating the same voice command.
Apple Music disappeared or says it is not linked
Relink the service from the Google Home app. Go to Settings (or Home settings) → Music → More music services → the Apple Music link control → Link Account, then sign in again with the Apple Account used for Apple Music. This is Apple’s documented fix for a stopped connection.
After authorization, check that Apple Music appears in the linked-service list and retry an explicit request. If the provider is still missing, verify the active Google account and consider whether Apple’s regional availability restriction applies to your location.

Make the request more specific. Add the artist, album, playlist name, or the words on Apple Music; Google specifically recommends these disambiguators when a request returns an unexpected result.
- Instead of
play “Home”, sayplay “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros on Apple Music. - Instead of
play my playlist, sayplay “Sunday Drive” playlist on Apple Music. - If the default provider is uncertain, always include
on Apple Musicuntil the account and default are corrected.
The app shows the service, but the speaker uses another account
Google Home uses the Google account currently selected in the app, and Google smart speakers and displays support one account per streaming service. Confirm that the displayed Google account is the one connected to the intended home, then inspect the Apple Music link under that account. Relink with the desired Apple Account if the existing authorization belongs to someone else.
Sign-in completes but playback still stops
A successful Apple sign-in does not prove that the Nest device is using the same Google Home configuration. Check that the device is visible in the correct home, the provider is listed as linked, and the Apple Account has an active subscription. Relink using the documented path, then test with a named song and the provider name rather than a personal shortcut such as “my favorites.”

Apple Music is not offered in Google Home
Apple states that the integration is unavailable in some countries and that availability varies by region. If Apple Music is absent from More music services after you verify the correct Google account and app, the limitation may be geographic rather than a setup error. The available provider list is therefore a useful regional compatibility check.

Use the documented short forms: “back” or “previous” for the prior item, “skip forward” followed by a number of seconds, “shuffle,” “play it again,” and “repeat on” or “repeat off.” Once a control works, keep the request focused on one action; combining a new search, a provider switch, and a playback control in one sentence makes diagnosis harder.
How do Nest Audio, Nest Mini, and Nest Hub Max differ for Apple Music?
All three appear in Google’s announcement of Apple Music support, but the supplied support guidance does not establish current prices, measured output, microphone range, physical dimensions, or a universal best model. Choose among them based first on compatibility and the room in which you will use the device, then verify current specifications separately.

The Apple Music setup path is the same at the account level. You do not need a different Apple Music subscription for each compatible Nest device, but the Google Home account controlling the device must be the account whose service link you configured.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can I make voice requests more reliable?
Start with a fully qualified request, then shorten it only after Google consistently identifies the intended content. This approach separates recognition problems from account and catalog problems.
- Name the content. Include the exact song, album, artist, or playlist title.
- Add an artist or album. This resolves common title collisions.
- Name the provider. Add
on Apple Musicwhen another service is the default or when testing. - Use the playlist word. Say
playlistafter a personal playlist name so Google treats it as a collection rather than a song. - Issue controls separately. After playback starts, use “shuffle,” “previous,” or “repeat on” as a standalone command.
For personal content, use phrases such as “my library,” “my songs,” or “my favorites.” If those phrases fail while a named public song works, the likely issue is the linked Apple Account or the account’s library access rather than microphone recognition.

What should I check after changing accounts or homes?
Changing the Google account shown in Google Home changes which home settings and linked services you are inspecting. Before troubleshooting playback, verify three identities: the Google account displayed in the app, the Nest device’s home, and the Apple Account authorized for Apple Music.
- Open Google Home and confirm the displayed Google account.
- Verify that the selected home contains the speaker or display you are addressing.
- Open Music → More music services and confirm Apple Music is linked for that account.
- Check Your music services if you expect Apple Music to answer requests without a provider name.
- Use a named song with
on Apple Musicas the final identity test.
Because only one account per streaming service is supported on Google smart speakers and displays, household members cannot have separate Apple Music authorizations active simultaneously on the same service slot. The practical workaround is to relink the account that should control that home when the household changes users.
What is the fastest end-to-end test?
Use this short test after setup or relinking. It checks the provider link, the selected account, and basic voice playback without relying on a personal playlist.
- In Google Home, confirm Apple Music appears under the linked music services.
- Say
Hey Google, play “Bad Guy” on Apple Music, or use another exact song and artist you know. - After playback begins, say
Hey Google, skip forward 30 seconds. - Say
Hey Google, play my library on Apple Musicto test personal access. - If the named song works but the library request fails, relink the Apple Account and verify that it is the subscribed account.
A successful named-song test proves that the device can reach Apple Music; it does not prove that every personal playlist name will be recognized. Keep using the more specific form for similarly named playlists or tracks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can two people use different Apple Music accounts on one Google Nest speaker?
Google’s current guidance allows one account per streaming service on a smart speaker or display. To use a different Apple Music account, relink the service while the intended Google Home account is selected; the previous account will no longer occupy that service slot.
Does Apple Music work on every Google Assistant speaker?
No. Support is described for compatible Google Nest speakers and displays, including Nest Audio, Nest Mini, and Nest Hub Max, rather than every third-party Assistant device. The Apple Music provider must also be offered in your country or region.
Why does my personal playlist fail while a public song plays?
A public-song test uses catalog search, while a personal playlist depends on the Apple Account authorized in Google Home. Relink the subscribed Apple Account and say the playlist’s exact name followed by the word “playlist.”

Do I have to say “on Apple Music” every time?
Only when Apple Music is not selected under Your music services, when another provider is the default, or when you are resolving an ambiguous result. Selecting Apple Music as the default lets ordinary music requests omit the provider name.
