UK6090: At First Glance

LG has been one of the leading television manufacturers for quite some time. Impressively, it has been consistent in releasing good quality TVs all this while.

The case in point of this review is the UK6090 model that was released in 2018. The UK6090 offers amazing display features, a simple design, and decent picture performance.

With all the amazing features the UK6090 TV offers will it meet up to the expectations of users? To find out if it will, you should read all the sections of this review.

UK6090: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The UK6090 features a well-crafted simple design. Its bezels are a bit thick, but the TV still looks good and fits perfectly in any room.

The bezels are made of plastic with a mixture of brush and glossy finish. The bottom bezel houses an “LG” logo with a control button underneath it.

As a means of supporting the TV on desks, the UK6090 comes with a pair of V-shaped legs. These legs are plastic and have a matte black finish.

Although the pair of legs support the TV well, it doesn’t guarantee that the TV won’t wobble when bumped. Also, the legs span almost the edges of the TV thus, you will need to place the TV on a large table.

Moving around to the back of the TV, the UK6090 features a plain back view. Just like the bezels, the back cover is also plastic-built with a matte black finish.

However, despite its plastic build, it is quite sturdy. Furthermore, all the TV ports including the power port are located at the back of the TV.

In addition to the ports, the back of the TV also houses 300 x 300 VESA holes which are useful if you decide to wall-mount the TV. However, this TV might stick out the wall when mounted.

This is because the back of the TV is a bit thick. To worsen the situation, the UK6090 doesn’t have any form of cable management feature.

The implication of this is that the connected cables might be in disarray.

For the dimension and weight, the UK6090 measures 1369 x 88.9 x 795 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 19413.7 g. In my opinion, the television is impressively light for a 60-inch TV.

As a matter of fact, it almost has the same weight as the 55-inch Samsung QN55Q60RAFXZA. To be precise, the Samsung QN55Q60RAFXZA weighs 19186.9 g.

In summary, the UK6090 features an impressively simple design. However, it is thick and doesn’t feature any form of cable management.

Hence, I will be rating this TV a seven out of ten in this section of the review.

UK6090: Display Features and Picture Quality

The LG UK6090 TV boasts a 60-inch display that has a beautiful 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. This allows you to view clear and crisp 4K resolution content.

However, it is quite disappointing that the UK6090 display delivers a poor contrast ratio. For more details, the contrast ratio allows the TV’s display to produce deep blacks in movie scenes.

Regarding that, the UK6090’s display features a native contrast of 1,096:1 which is below the 3000: 1 standard. As a result, dark scenes in movies will not be very dark but grayish instead.

To make things even worse, the LG UK6090 TV doesn’t have local dimming.

For more details, the local dimming is a technique that amplifies the blacks in shadowy scenes of a TV display. If the UK6090 had local dimming, this would have complemented its inadequate contrast ratio.

However, because the UK6090 lacks this important feature, it misses out on this.

Another downside of this TV’s display is its relatively poor brightness. Specifically, the TV is only able to produce a maximum brightness of 311 nits.

For better understanding, good brightness levels are ideal for watching TV in a bright room. This helps to make content more visible on the display when viewed in well-lit room.

Unfortunately, with the maximum display brightness of the UK6090, it doesn’t get bright enough. Thus, the viewing experience of this TV will be better in a moderately lit room than in very bright rooms.

However, the poor display brightness of this TV is not surprising considering it is an IPS display. This is to say that IPS paneled displays feature good viewing at the expense of contrast ratio, brightness, and local dimming.

Speaking of viewing angles, the UK6090 impresses in that aspect thanks to its IPS panel display. The implication of this is that picture quality remains accurate even when viewing the TV from an angle.

As a result, anywhere you sit in a room to watch the TV, you will still get the best view. This feature also comes in handy if you watch TV with a large group of people in a large room.

Another impressive feature of the UK6090’s display is that it handles reflection well. This is a result of the semi-gloss coating on its screen.

This coating helps to diffuse the glare from lamps and bulbs and disperse it across the screen. Hence, light reflections will not affect your viewing experience of this TV.

Additionally, the UK6090 also features LG’s 4K Active HDR (High Dynamic Range) format. This format helps to improve the range of colors and brightness of the TV display when watching HDR-compactible content.

You might be impressed with this TVs display already, however, it still has more exciting features up its sleeves. In regards to that, the TV is powered by a quad-core processor.

The processor makes picture processing faster and renders precise colors and sharpness. Furthermore, the UK6090 is capable of upscaling HD resolution content to a near 4K resolution quality.

In simpler terms, the quad-core processor on this TV gives it a crisper and more colorful output.

Now let us move on to the motion handling ability of this TV. To do this, we’ll discuss the display’s response time.

For better understanding, response time is the time taken for a TV’s display pixels to switch from one color to another. That said, the UK6090 records a remarkable response time of 15 milliseconds.

Hence, we can say that the TV has a fast response because it records a value that is less than the maximum allowed value of 24 milliseconds. Thankfully, the implication of this is that the blur effect of fast-moving content like sports will be at a minimum.

Furthermore, the UK6090 has a low input lag of 11.8ms which makes it suitable for gaming. Essentially, input lag refers to the delay in signal transmission between input and reaction on screen.

A clear example is a transmission between the sent signal from a gamepad and the effect on the screen. Notably, for better gaming experience, a display is expected to have a low input lag of 15 ms or less.

Similarly, the lower the input lag of a display the better its gaming ability.

In conclusion, the UK6090’s 4K resolution display offers a fantastic input lag, response time, and wide viewing angles. However, it does not meet up to expectations in the aspect of contrast ratio, brightness, and local dimming.

Considering all these, I will be rating the LG UK6090 TV an eight in this display and picture quality review section.

UK6090: Sound Features

The LG UK6090 television comes with a pair of 10 watts speakers for its sound unit. With a total of 20 watts of power, the generated sound is relatively decent for normal listening, except you are far from the TV.

If that be the case, then purchasing an external speaker will go a long way in delivering a theater-like sound. Unfortunately, the TV doesn’t have a subwoofer.

As a result, the TV won’t be able to produce heavy bass. Thus, music and movies with deep bass won’t be a possibility on this TV except you purchase a subwoofer to give you the bass you need.

On the positive side, the UK6090’s speaker is capable of producing a clear dialogue. This feature allows you to clearly hear conversations from multiple characters from TV shows, news, and sports commentaries.

Another positive of the UK6090’s speaker is that it features Ultra Surround Sound technology. For better understanding, Ultra Surround Sound technology delivers a seven-channel-like immersive virtual audio.

Thankfully, when this surround mode is activated on the TV, you might not need an external speaker. This is because the technology helps the speakers produce a punching sound that is ideal when watching action movies.

Moving on to the distortion performance of the UK6090, it produces little or no sound distortion. To give more details, distortion is the deformity of sound frequencies produced by a speaker.

Thankfully, at maximum volume, the speaker’s distortion is at the lowest. Most impressively, the distortion is entirely absent at average volume.

In conclusion, the sound performance of the LG UK6090 TV is commendable, thanks to Ultra Surround Sound technology. However, its lack of a subwoofer is a major flop.

Therefore, this TV deserves a rating of eight in this sound features review section.

UK6090: Ports and Connectivity Features

In terms of input connections, the LG UK6090 TV features quite a decent number of ports. Moreover, all the inputs are located at the back of the TV.

Furthermore, they are divided into two groups – some facing backward while some are located by the side of the TV. As a result, the side-facing ports will be more easily accessible than the backward-facing ports when the TV is wall-mounted.

Meanwhile, let’s discuss these ports starting with the side-facing ones. The UK6090 smart TV features two HDMI ports, one of which is ARC compatible.

This ARC port enables the TV to transfer media signals from and to an audio system at a higher speed via a High-speed HDMI cable. Consequently, it eliminates the need for AV and optical digital cables.

Still, on the side-facing ports, you will find a USB port for either connecting an external device or other peripherals like dongles.

Moving on to the backward-facing ports, we have the third HDMI port and the second USB port. In addition, there’s an optical digital out port and a composite in.

It is important to mention that the composite In port allows users to connect both VCRs and DVDs. Lastly, we have the antenna and an Ethernet port for wired internet connectivity.

For wireless connectivity, the LG UK6090 TV comes with an in-built WiFi 802.11 ac WiFi. Sadly, the TV doesn’t have Bluetooth.

Next up in this section, we will be discussing the UK6090’s remote control. In that regard, the TV features a standard LG (AKB75375604) remote control.

The remote is pretty much basic but has a lot of buttons. Also, its material build is plastic with a matte black finish.

Regarding functionalities, I”ll start by mentioning this remote is not a magic remote and does not have a microphone. However, its buttons come in handy.

These buttons include the power button, the numerical and search buttons found at the top part of the remote. Furthermore, you can find the volume and channel rockers below the numerical buttons.

In addition, a plus-shaped navigation button is positioned under three dedicated buttons. The navigation button helps to navigate the TV’s interface.

Meanwhile, the dedicated buttons help to ease access to the home screen, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Videos with just one tap.

In summary, the TG UK6090 TV offers a decent amount of ports and is equipped with the necessary feature for connecting to the internet. However, it lacks Bluetooth and the remote doesn’t have a microphone.

Considering these factors, I will be rating this TV a seven in this section of the article.

UK6090: Smart Features

Just like most LG smart TVs, the UK6090 comes with WebOS. Thankfully, the WebOS platform features an easy-to-use interface.

In addition to its ease of use, it has all the necessary apps and services on the home screen. Also, the UK6090 has some pre-installed popular streaming apps which include Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Sling, Amazon Prime.

These streaming apps are located on a bar found at the bottom part of the screen. Thankfully, the apps bar doesn’t obscure the display much.

Meanwhile, it will excite you to hear that you can stream videos on these streaming apps with a specific subscription and an in-built Channel Plus TV. The Channel Plus TV is a new feature of WebOS which gives you access to numerous channels.

Specifically, Channel Plus TV is an online TV that gives users access to over 140 free channels with sports, comedy, news, and law channels inclusive. The Channel Plus icon is also located on the apps bar like the other pre-installed apps.

Therefore, if you don’t have cable TV, you can easily take advantage of Channel Plus TV. Another benefit of the WebOS is that you can get suggestions about TV shows, movies, and download more apps on the LG content store.

Furthermore, you can find other tools like the web browser, TV schedule, Content Share, user guide, and music on the home screen. Another thing I like about the UK6090 is that users can share their smartphones, tablet, and PC screen with the TV, thanks to the Content Share feature.

Overall, the WebOS interface is smooth and easy to use. It is also easy to scroll through because the interface doesn’t lag.

Aside from its impressive OS, the UK6090 also has voice control capability. Sadly, the voice control feature of this TV is strained due to the lack of an in-built microphone on its remote control.

Thus, you should consider purchasing Google Home or Alexa for voice interaction.

After much consideration about all I have discussed in this section, I have decided to rate the LG UK6090 TV a nine.
