Hisense H9G: At First Glance

In recent years, Hisense has gained its ground in the TV market by offering high-quality televisions with great performance. A Hisense television that has become one of the brand’s most sought-after is the Hisense H9G.

The Hisense H9G is a 4K television that offers exceptional picture quality and overall brilliant performance. Additionally, this television features the popular Android operating system all for a price tag below $1000.

Speaking of price, the Hisense H9G had a price tag of $759 as of the time I wrote this article in March 2022. Does this Hisense television offer adequate performance to compete with other 4K televisions in the market?

Well, since you are here, the only way to find out is to continue reading!

Hisense H9G: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Hisense H9G comes with a sleek design similar to its predecessor, the Hisense H9F. When I say it is sleek, believe me, because this television can definitely grab one’s attention at first sight.

To be more descriptive, the Hisense H9G has thin silver bezels that border its display. However, the bottom bezel is slightly thicker because there is a “Hisense” inscription at the center.

Moreover, the Hisense H9G’s bezels are made of plastic with a glossy finish.

Turning the Hisense H9G to the back, you will discover a black plastic panel with square patterns. Additionally, there are four holes on this back panel that can accommodate a 400 X 400 VESA mount for wall-mounting the television.

Moreover, the back panel of this television isn’t thick, therefore, the television shouldn’t bulge out if wall-mounted. Impressively, there are tracks on the television’s back panel and clips on its stand that serve as a cable management system.

Speaking of the stand, the Hisense H9G features a metallic stand that has a triangular shape. Moreover, due to the metal build of this stand, it supports the television very well with only a little wobble when nudged with force.

With all that being said, let us now discuss the television’s dimensions and weight. To start with, the Hisense H9G measures 1450.3 x 104.1 x 840.7 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 23904.3 g.

Compared to the Samsung NU6900 65, this Hisense television weighs less. Specifically, the Samsung NU6900 65 weighs 24992.9 g and measures 1457.9 x 60.9 x 838.2mm (W x D x H).

All in all, in this design review section, the Hisense H9G deserves nothing less than a nine out of ten rating.

Hisense H9G: Display Features and Picture Quality

The Hisense H9G comes with a 65-inch ULED display with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Starting with the 4K resolution, this resolution enables the display to deliver clear, sharp, and realistic pictures.

Also, a 4K resolution display should be able to produce pictures that are four times better, clearer, and more colorful than a standard HD display. In addition to its 4K resolution, the Hisense H9G’s display offers an outstanding contrast ratio because it is made with a VA panel.

To be more precise, this television’s display comes with a contrast ratio of 6897:1. Having such an impressive contrast implies that this display will be able to produce and render deep blacks.

Thus, the Hisense H9G is suitable for dark room viewing and watching movies full of dark or shady scenes. In case you are curious, contrast ratio refers to the difference between the brightest white and the darkest black a display can render.

In order to enhance its contrast ratio, the Hisense H9G’s display supports full-array local dimming. Local dimming is a process that improves the contrast ratio of a display by dimming backlight zones.

Hence, with local dimming, blacks on a display should look darker than they would without local dimming. Thereby, improving the dark room performance, black level, and overall picture quality of the display.

To further enhance its picture quality, the Hisense H9G’s display supports HDR (High dynamic range). To give more details, the display supports various HDR formats such as HLG, HDR10, and Dolby Vision.

In case you are wondering what HDR means, it is a picture technology that improves the brightness and color accuracy of a display. It does this when the display is viewing HDR-compatible content, making the display’s picture quality more realistic.

For context, HDR-compatible content can be found on streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.

The Hisense H9G continues to impress as its display offers a maximum brightness of 730 nits. Thus, this Hisense television will be very suitable for watching movies in a well-lit or bright room.

Unfortunately, like other VA panel displays, the Hisense H9G’s display offers bad viewing angles. Therefore, viewing the Hisense H9G from the sides or off-center isn’t ideal because the display’s picture quality and color will lose accuracy.

Thus, I recommend viewing this television directly from the center to get a premium experience.

On a positive note, the Hisense H9G’s display handles reflection very well. This is all thanks to the glossy coating on its surface that retracts reflection and reduces the density of direct sunlight.

Aside from its impressive reflection handling, this TV’s display offers a low input lag of 14.9 ms. Just to be clear, input lag refers to the period of time that a display takes to respond to signal inputs.

Moreover, signal inputs can be from external sources like a wireless gamepad. Therefore, the lower the input lag, the better the gaming experience.

Well, with an input lag as low as 14.9 milliseconds, the Hisense H9G is ideal for gaming.

Aside from gaming, this television is also suitable for viewing fast-motion content like sports or action movies. This is because the display offers a fast response time of 8.1 milliseconds.

As a result, there will be minimal blur trails while viewing fast-motion content on the display. If you are wondering, response time refers to the duration that a display takes to change from one color to another.

In conclusion, aside from its bad viewing angles, the Hisense H9G’s display offers excellent performance and picture quality. Thus, I will rate the Hisense H9G a nine out of ten in this display features review section.

Hisense H9G: Sound Features

Based on how well the Hisense H9G performs in the display section, one would expect it to deliver a great sound performance. Unfortunately, this television comes with a pair of 10-watts speakers that produce mediocre sound quality.

Morevoer, these speakers aren’t loud enough to fill a large room with sound. They can only adequately fill a medium-sized room as well as a small room with sound.

To add to the woes, the Hisense H9G lacks a subwoofer, which means it won’t be able to produce enough bass. As a result, bass-heavy movies aren’t ideal to be viewed on this TV.

However, if you really love bass-heavy movies, you can always purchase a soundbar or external speakers.

On a positive note, the Hisense H9G has an excellent distortion performance. Believe me, this is not just a claim because it was proven by the television’s THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test result.

If you are curious, the THD test is a sound test that is meant to calculate the amount of distortion an audio device can produce. Moreover, a score of 1% or below on this test implies that the audio device produces little distortion.

On the other hand, a score above 1% means that the audio device delivers a noticeable amount of distortion. Thankfully, the Hisense H9G delivered a score of 0.8% on the THD test.

Therefore, even at the max volume level, the distortion that the television would produce will be minimal. As a matter of fact, not everyone will be able to hear the distortion.

For the curious ones, distortion refers to the alteration of original sound frequencies, leading to the audio device producing unwanted sounds.

Apart from its good distortion performance, the Hisense H9G’s speakers produce clear and audible dialogue. Dialogue refers to the conversation between multiple characters in a movie.

Based on the facts above, I will be rating the Hisense H9G a seven out of ten in this sound review section.

Hisense H9G: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Hisense H9G comes with a great number of ports that are all on its back panel. Therefore, whenever the televison is mounted on the wall, users might not be able to easily access the ports.

That said, the Hisense H9G comes with four HDMI ports and two USB ports. It is worth mentioning that one of these HDMI ports supports the ARC (Audio Return Channel).

As a result, you can use the ARC-HDMI port to connect a soundbar to the televisoin. Apart from the HDMI ports and USB ports, this Hisense television also comes with a headphone jack, an RF connector, and digital audio output.

Also, the TV features an Ethernet port and composite video input. For wireless connectivity, the Hisense H9G features a built-in 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WIFI as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

Moving on to the remote, the Hisense H9G comes with a voice remote control. This remote is made of plastic with a matte-black finish and features quite a number of rubber buttons.

These buttons include a round-shaped navigation button in the middle of the remote. Also, you will find four dedicated buttons at the bottom part of the remote.

These dedicated buttons are for quick access to streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play. Below these dedicated buttons, you’ll find a bold “Hisense” logo for brand recognition.

Moreover, as a voice remote, the Hisense H9G’s remote features a built-in microphone. This microphone allows for voice input via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

In summary, the Hisense H9G comes with a great wealth of ports and a fully functional voice remote control. Hence, I will rate the television a nine out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

Hisense H9G: Smart Features

As with most Hisense smart televisions, the Hisense H9G is powered by the Android operating system. This OS comes with an easy-to-use, smooth, ad-free, and lag-free interface.

In addition to that, the interface of this operating system has a well-organized layout that makes navigation very easy. Besides its cool interface, the Android OS offers a wide range of popular streaming services.

Some of these streaming services include Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, and Amazon Prime Video. In fact, you can download more streaming services and applications from the Google Play Store.

Besides, the Hisense H9G comes with a built-in Chromecast. As a result, you should be able to cast/share content from your smart devices to the television.

However, to do so, just make sure that the smart device and television are connected to the same WIFI network.

In conclusion, the Hisense H9G comes with one of the best operating systems that offer a reasonable amount of streaming services. Moreover, the television offers a built-in Chromecast for sharing or casting content from smart devices.

As a result, the Hisense H9G deserves nothing less than a nine out of ten rating in this smart features review section.
