What is the Sleep Republic ES mattress?
The ES is a compressed, roll-packed hybrid mattress designed in Melbourne and manufactured in China. Its support system is a pocket-spring core rather than a single slab of foam, with comfort layers above the springs and reinforced edges around the perimeter.

What is inside the ES?

The spring count figures are not contradictory: 599 springs per square metre is a density measurement, while “up to 2,500” describes the total number of individually wrapped springs in a particular size. Spring count alone does not determine comfort; zoning, foam density, cover tension, body weight and the supporting frame all affect the result.

What should you expect when it arrives?
The ES arrives compressed in a box, so plan the route from the doorway to the bedroom before delivery. Put the box close to the final position, place the mattress on its prepared base, then open the plastic carefully and let it expand in accordance with Sleep Republic’s delivery instructions. The handles are useful for positioning, not for dragging a fully expanded mattress up stairs. How firm is the Sleep Republic ES?
Expect a supportive medium-firm feel rather than a plush, sinking surface. Bedbuyer’s reviewers reached a consensus score of 7.5 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest, and labelled it medium-firm. CHOICE records Sleep Republic’s claimed feel as firm. The ES suits side, back and stomach sleepers in Bedbuyer’s assessment. Why can two people disagree about the firmness?
Firmness is strongly affected by body mass, shape, sleeping position, the support underneath the mattress and the time allowed for the foam to settle. A lighter side sleeper may perceive the same surface as harder because it compresses less; a heavier sleeper may experience more contouring. A flexible base can also change the feel and is not recommended for this model.
Body alignment is a more useful test than a label. On your side, your shoulder should be cushioned without your waist collapsing toward the base. On your back, your hips should feel supported rather than suspended above the mattress. On your stomach, excessive sinking through the pelvis is a warning sign. Does the ES isolate movement and sleep cool?
Bedbuyer reports low partner disturbance, smooth weight distribution and no abnormal heat retention during its testing. The pocket springs respond individually, while the foam absorbs some vibration, so one person’s turning should be less noticeable than on a traditional interconnected-spring mattress. No mattress eliminates movement completely, and the result changes with sleeper weight, bed frame and room conditions.
Temperature and airflow
The breathable Tencel cover and open space around the spring unit provide more ventilation than a dense all-foam construction. Bedbuyer did not observe unusual heat retention, but that is a test observation rather than a guarantee for every sleeper. Bedding, humidity, ambient temperature, body size and whether you naturally sleep hot will influence the result. A waterproof protector, heavy quilt or poorly ventilated room can make any mattress feel warmer than it did in a showroom or review test.

Edge stability
Bedbuyer found the edges stable without a roll-off sensation. Dynamic edge support should make sitting down and using the outer portion of the mattress more secure than an unreinforced foam edge. Edge performance can decline if the base is too narrow, bowed or otherwise unable to support the perimeter. Couples who regularly sleep near the sides should make sure the frame supports the full footprint rather than leaving an overhang.
What sizes and prices are available?
Bedbuyer’s August 24, 2026 update gives the following Australian retail and promotional prices. Promotions are time-sensitive and may end without notice.

At those listed figures, the queen promotion is $315 below the stated retail price, but the saving is meaningful only if the promotion is still active and the size suits your room and base. CHOICE lists $949 for its tested double and says it paid $712 after bargaining. Those figures are close to Bedbuyer’s double pricing but come from a different listing and purchasing context. BestMattressAustralia’s July 27, 2026 affiliate review claims an $1,008 queen price; treat that as that publisher’s dated claim rather than a permanent price.
Because the ES is sold in several sizes and discounts change, check the current price at checkout and confirm whether delivery, removal or any regional surcharge is included. Also check that your fitted sheets, protector and bed frame match the delivered profile. The double specification measured by CHOICE was 27 cm, while Bedbuyer’s profile is 28 cm.

Bedbuyer reports a 150-night home trial. Customers are asked to keep the mattress for at least 14 nights so their bodies can adjust before requesting a return. If it remains unsuitable, a refund is available subject to the company’s conditions; regional and rural return shipping may be deducted from the refund.
The warranty lasts 12 years and covers faulty materials or workmanship. It is not an insurance policy for normal softening, comfort preference, stains or damage caused by an unsuitable base. Keep the order confirmation, photograph the mattress if a defect appears and follow Sleep Republic’s current return instructions before arranging transport. Do not dispose of the box or alter the support system while you are still deciding whether to keep the mattress.
What delivery should Australian buyers expect?
Bedbuyer states that delivery is free Australia-wide, with typical metropolitan delivery in one to three business days and regional or remote delivery in three to seven business days. These are typical time frames, not guaranteed appointments; local carrier capacity and address access can change them. What base does the ES need?
Use a flat platform or solid, closely spaced slats that support the full mattress, including its edges. Bedbuyer specifically warns against flexible posture slats and adjustable electric bases. Inadequate support can damage components and may void warranty coverage.

- Measure the frame so the mattress sits fully inside it without overhanging corners.

It also includes reports that the mattress feels too firm initially for some side sleepers and that handling the rolled package can be heavy. This is aggregated consumer sentiment, not a controlled laboratory comparison.
Bedbuyer’s controlled-style review reports even weight distribution, gentle contouring at the shoulders and legs, supported hips, low partner disturbance, stable edges and no abnormal heat retention. BestMattressAustralia reports an 8.8/10 score and claims durability testing at 1,400 newtons across 36,000 cycles; those figures belong to that affiliate review and should not be treated as a universal industry test.

What should I do if the mattress feels too firm during the first week?
