Skyworth E20300: At First Glance

I’m willing to bet the name “Skyworth” isn’t one you are familiar with. What’s even more surprising is that this multi-billion dollar company has been in existence for close to 33 years.

Though this company experienced fast growth in the early years of 1996, they’ve become less prominent after the late 2000s. Of recent, their presence in the TV industry has started becoming more obvious.

One of the indications of their seriousness is their strategic expansion to the local markets of different regions across the world. Based on my research, their major strategy is to focus on offering affordable value for products that consumers will often view as “too pricey”.

Have they delivered such a product in the Skyworth E20300? You’ll get an answer to that when you read through this Skyworth E20300 review.

Skyworth E20300: Design, Dimension & Weight

In the modern technology world, the essence of design cannot be overemphasized and it appears that Skyworth understands this. The appearance of this TV is just simple and beautiful.

Even when it isn’t powered on, the Skyworth E20300 is sleek enough to be a center of attraction in your living room. Besides, the thin bezels surrounding its display are stylish enough to add a touch of elegance to its overall appearance.

Rather than appearing as an alteration to its neat design, the silver Skyworth logo at the center of its bottom frame fits perfectly. It adds a vibrant touch to the Skyworth E20300’s frame.

Like most TVs, the Skyworth E20300 isn’t particularly resistant to heavy collision on any part of its body. So, some parts of its body feel loose and a bit weak.

Fortunately, the Skyworth E20300’s curved metal legs are solid enough to conveniently hold it in place without wobbles. Not only do these two similarly styled legs invigorate the TV’s appearance, but they are also incredibly sturdy enough for you to use the TV on a tabletop.

However, I wouldn’t advise you to mount this TV on the wall because of how thick it looks. Though it won’t look too bad, the TV’s thick depth betrays its sleek look when it is hung up on a wall.

On a flat wall surface, you will be able to see the Skyworth E20300 protruding awkwardly. As for me, I just think it isn’t one of those smart TVs that can sit smartly on a wall.

Hence, I would advise you to simply make use of its stands. After all, its stands look good and they offer firm support for the TV.

Since I mentioned how thick the Skyworth E20300 is, I might as well give you the details of its measurements. To be precise, the Skyworth E20300 measures 990.6 x 152.4 x 635.0 mm.

In comparison, the Sceptre X405BV-FSR and the VIZIO V405-G9 are both significantly thinner than the Skyworth E20300. The Sceptre X405BV-FSR measures 910.8 x 87.1 x 521.9 mm and the VIZIO V405-G9 measures 902.0 x 64.8 x 521 mm.

Both TVs are also much lighter than the Skyworth E20300. While the Skyworth E20300 weighs 9616.1 g, the Sceptre X405BV-FSR weighs just 6518.1 g.

Meanwhile, the VIZIO V405-G9 weighs 6800 g.

One positive thing you can take from the Skyworth E20300’s heavier weight is that it feels a bit more durable compared to the other two TVs – the Sceptre and VIZIO.

Overall, the Skyworth E20300 offers nice scenery for viewing your desired content after a long day of work. Its beautiful looks will help make your relaxation time worthwhile.

As a result, the Skyworth E20300 scores an eight in this design review.

Skyworth E20300: Display Features

This 40-inch TV comes with an IPS LED type of panel. The TVs display has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a dimension of 1016 x 885.6 x 498.15 mm.

Furthermore, this display offers an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080.

As long as you are viewing Full HD content, the TV will display crisp and sharp details. Moreover, the Skyworth E20300 offers a good contrast ratio of 1000:1.

This contrast ratio is good enough for you to enjoy excellent picture quality when you stream high-resolution videos or movies.

For clarity, the contrast ratio of a TV is the difference between the brightest image and the darkest image it can produce. You can think of the contrast ratio of a TV as “white/black = contrast ratio”.

Hence, this TV’s 1000:1 contrast ratio means that the brightness of a completely white image it produces will be 1000 times greater than the brightness of a completely black image it produces.

Speaking of brightness, the Skyworth E20300 has a brightness of 200 nits. The unit “nits” represents the measure of light emitted per unit.

It is normally used to specify the brightness of a display.

Though the brightness level of 200 nits is a bit low, it is not so bad when you compare it with other TVs in the Skyworth E20300’s category. For instance, the 40-inch Hisense 40H5500F TV also has a display brightness of 200 nits.

The Sceptre X405BV-FSR, on the other hand, just offers a slightly better brightness of 226.8 nits.

Nonetheless, the Skyworth E20300 displays colorful content with precise definitions. Specifically, the color accuracy on this TV is so good that you can easily identify colors with close contrasts.

Also, the viewing angle on this TV is superb. The Skyworth E20300 offers a viewing angle of 178 degrees.

Fortunately, its bezels are extremely thin, so they won’t disturb your viewing experience in any way.

Instead of interfering with your viewing, they add a more immersive experience to the TV’s display. As a result, you will absolutely enjoy viewing content on this TV.

However, the Skyworth E20300 is not without any issues. Firstly, it doesn’t have any advanced features such as dimming or anti-glare.

Secondly, the TV has pixelation problems when it comes to upscaling low-resolution content. For more understanding, upscaling is when your TV is able to fill its entire screen with low-resolution content while retaining its neat pixelation.

Although contents starting from 720p HD resolution display perfectly on the Skyworth E20300, any content lower in resolution suffers from a lot of pixelation.

Also, this TV comes with the old 60 Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is not bad for regular content viewing, but it would have been nice to have a higher refresh rate of at least 120 Hz for gaming or viewing sports content.

Nonetheless, the Skyworth E20300 offers a nice picture quality. At least, in relation to its price point, this TV performs fairly well in terms of its picture quality.

Hence, the Skyworth E20300 scores a seven in this display features review.

Skyworth E20300: Sound Features

To put it simply, the Skyworth E20300’s audio quality is fantastic. This TV features a built-in 2 channel sound output system.

More precisely, the Skyworth E20300 comes with 10W + 10W down-firing speakers for output. As I implied earlier, these speakers produce rich quality sounds.

The Skyworth E20300 is capable of producing sounds without any unnecessary sound filtering. Hence, it doesn’t distort the frequency range of the sound it produces.

In other words, it doesn’t produce sounds that are too loud to damage your ears. At the same time, it doesn’t add too many effects on the sound to the extent that it tampers with its quality.

Though the Skyworth E20300 maintains a moderate level of sound filtering, it doesn’t stop it from producing perfectly loud sounds. It is loud enough to fill a large room with its sound output.

If you had any complaints about the TV’s display quality, its audio quality will make you forget about those problems for a split second. The Skyworth E20300 can offer you about half the experience you will get in the cinema thanks to its great sound quality.

Hence, it scores an eight in this sound features review.

Skyworth E20300: Ports & Connectivity Features

Unfortunately, there aren’t as many ports on the E20300 as there are on more expensive TVs like the Samsung Q80R. In the E20300’s defense, its port selection is not bad considering its price range.

To give more detail, this TV comes with two HDMI ports and one ethernet port. It also offers two types of USB ports.

One is a version 3.0 USB port, the other is a USB 2.0 port. You can use either of these ports to play music and movies from your flash drive.

Since the rear of the Skyworth E20300 is slightly thick, it houses most of these ports and other components on its back. To be precise, the two HDMI ports are positioned on the TV’s back.

Another important connectivity feature on this TV is Bluetooth version 4.1 support. This is particularly impressive since most TVs in this price bracket do not feature Bluetooth.

Meanwhile, the ethernet port and the two USB ports are situated on the TV’s side. Honestly, I would have loved it if there were more ports on this TV.

At least, one more HDMI port on one of the sides of the TV would have sufficed. This would have helped to aid quick connections.

Another thing I wasn’t completely satisfied with was the TVs remote. Although it worked efficiently well, I wasn’t happy with the fact that it doesn’t offer air mouse functionality.

Remotes that offer this functionality have a gyro sensor that allows you to move the TV cursor from a distance by waving the remote itself around. This feature would have been nice to have in the Skyworth E20300’s remote.

Nonetheless, the E20300’s remote is physically well-built and its efficiency is great.

In conclusion, the Skyworth E20300 scores a seven in this review for its fair port selection and good connectivity features.

Skyworth E20300: Smart Features

The Skyworth E20300 is a smart TV that runs on the Android operating system. This means that it is compatible with all the streaming apps available on the Google Play Store.

You’ll enjoy streaming with Google apps like Google Play Music, Play TV, as well as Netflix. Asides from that, this TV offers a large tile for your installed apps since you can also install apps.

The Skyworth E20300 also comes with a built-in media player for photos, audio, and video. Fortunately, this feature works well as long as the content you intend to view is in one of the popular file formats.

As you would expect of an Android TV set, the Skyworth E20300 comes with a built-in Chromecast. This feature allows you to stream media content to your TV from your smartphone.

Lastly, the Skyworth E20300 also has a Google Voice Assist feature. With this feature, you can speak to your TV.

Overall, Android TV is a perfect choice for handling the “smart” features on a TV, like the Skyworth E20300. Our research proves that it enables the Skyworth E20300 to deliver efficient smart functionalities.

Hence, the Skyworth E20300 scores a seven in this smart features review.
